  • Today we compare Snap On's brand new Dual 100 ratchet with the tried-and-true Dual 80. We'll look at everything inside and out.

That green handle ratchet is my favorite. I have not had a chance to see the new one since I've been out of work. Thanks for sharing

How long does the boot stay on?

@ToolDemos well I had surgery 2.5 weeks ago. And right now I'm still not putting weight on it, I'm in a walking boot but can't walk at all. I should be in a splint. 2 weeks from today I go back for x rays and as long as it all looks like it should I can start to put weight on it. He said it will take 10 to 14 days of walking on it with crutches before I can walk without them. Not sure how long the boot stays on from there but the earliest I can go back to work is February 21st but that's modified activity. Only working 4 hours a day can't walk much.

@ToolDemos it has been rough, I love in 2 story house and going upstairs is hard so I've been living in my recliner down stairs. Thankfully I've had my TH-cam to help keep me busy. But yeah it sucks

I've had my FLF80 since 2007. It is date stamped 2006. So the dual 80 has been there about 18 years, not 12. In my opinion, the difference between 80 teeth and 100 teeth is not as noticeable or helpful as it was when they went from 36 teeth to 80 teeth. I still use my 36 tooth snap on ratchets when doing heavier work, even though the 80 tooth is rated for higher torque than the 36 tooth. The biggest improvement is the steel selector switch on the new 100 tooth. The powdered zinc switch on the 80 tooth breaks easily if you throw it down on your cart when you have to switch tools one handed while holding something up like a control arm or a cross member for a trans, etc. I wish the dual80 had steel/iron switches, it would be the perfect ratchet. Sealed head ratchets last decades and snap on is among the best.

Thank you very much for the comparison! 👍 I am impressed with the robust yolk. But aesthetically, not crazy about the T10's on the show side again. I am not a professional technician, but I do love my dual 80's. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade for me.

My guess is you didn’t watch the comparison video: th-cam.com/video/xI3lTu-ev78/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DzoNr-tIk_PyppuA I’ll save you from watching it, if you don’t want to: the heavy yoke is not going to save it. I would recommend keeping your 82 ratchet. I think they’re better.

I 100% agree, I felt one of the new 100 tooth ratchets and the super crunchy back drag didn’t impress me compared to the trusty dual 80. A premium ratchet shouldn’t need breaking in to make it feel better than it’s predecessor.
