It took me awhile to get used to using coconut oil, but I like it. I like 'em with butter better, but either way, huh? I hear people say they wouldn't like the coconut taste, but just like other oils, it doesn't taste really. Like corn oil doesn't taste like corn. I don't think any way could be really bad with these great cookies.

To avoid clumping of the cocoa, mix the cocoa with the sugar and whisk it. Soft ball stage on the cooked base. Myself, I prefer to press the mixture into a lined or treated 7 by 9 long glass dish and cut into squares. 9x13 also works for a little thinner cookie. I have found it works better than dropping them because often your mixture will firm up too much before you get to the last few cookies. Just a note, it takes pretty extreme heat for these to "melt in the heat" I don't refrigerate them, they're always gone too fast. They do not have as nice of a flavor cold as they do room temperature.

Very close to my Mom's recipe she used since the 60's , but she used margarine instead of the coconut oil . I make them still to this day . I love coconut and add shredded coconut to my no bakes sometimes , so I cant wait to try the coconut oil now . I also have used coconut extract + vanilla . I have tried Almond extract , but with no coconut . Another good thing is adding raisins to the no bakes . I added butterscotch chips last week , and they were pretty good too , but they melt completely into the chocolate . I am a no bake lover and always think of new things to try .

I want to Thank You from the bottom of My Heart! My mom passed away suddenly in January 2020 and I didn't get her recipes. Being born and raised in Florida, I was raised on Southern cooking. You are Literally the Only person I've found that makes things not only that she cooked But Also the Way she did it! I used to watch her when I was little but unfortunately I wasn't around her during my teen years as I learned to cook and never took the time to get the recipes or simply around to see things being older. I've found almost 10 recipes and things she would cook so far. I Miss Both My Parents and you Bring Back those good memories I had forgotten! Thank You, God Bless You and Your Family and Please Continue your videos, Please.

In kindergarten, the teacher scolded him for speaking about Jesus with another little Christian classmate. When he told me, I felt like someone had punched me in my stomach. The next time I picked him up from school, I asked and she said talking about Jesus "just wasn't allowed in the classroom'. I won't go into what I said. But hope I made up for it with the gift I have her on his behalf of a great big crochet bookmark in the shape of the Cross at the end of the year.

My mother (Irene Van Cleef) use to make these when I was a kid in the 1950s, except she used butter. Rather then scooping, she would put the mix into, like a cake decorating bag and squeeze them out a little at a time, on to wax paper, and smash them flat with a fork. Always loved these along with the ginger snaps, peanut butter cookies, fudge and peanut brittle.

When you boil it it goes from foamy to big bubbles. I use the soft ball method and water and my grandmothers test which was... touch the back of the spoon with your finger then touch your teeth,,, if you can wipe your teeth clean its not cooked long enough , if it sticks to your teeth, its done! lol I made these cookies for my kids and now I make them for my grand kids,, Make sure you have a gallon of milk on hand for these yummy warm cookies! Graininess of sugar not only comes from not cooking long enough, but using a metal spoon in a metal pot. I learned this from a candy maker when I was in high school. So whenever I make this recipe, fudge or other candies I always use a wooden spoon. So I was soooo glad to see you using a plastic spoon!!!😊

  • @coolstamper

Sounds like a yummy recipe!!! For the sugar you can use coconut/palm sugar, using the same amount as regular sugar. The coconut/Palm sugar does not raise your blood sugar as fast, so it's healthier for you. Coconut/Palm sugar tastes a lot like brown sugar, so in this recipe I don't think you would notice the difference much if at all.

And let me speak up for a down - trodden minority. You can substitute carob powder for cocoa, will not be as fervent a choco- taste, more like milk chocolate. And I did once use almond butter, with coconut oil in my recipe and didn't add the brown powder, to my mind they were as good or better. You also can substitute instant pudding, like a butterscotch, but that negates some of what health you were yearning for. But I won't put you down, a person gotta do what they gotta do- & GOD and I would both forgive you for that!

Grandma made Betty Crocker look bad.. mother went to city with cousincs and aunt Polly to business college, . Got married and went to work. She was never interested in cooking. She could cook chicken spagetti and fried chicen rice and gravy. For desert these fabulous cookies she learned from a neighbor and lemon ice box pie. That was it. Oh but I loved these cookies. I have found them in grocery baking dept a couple of times. I can never remember to buy coco powder. I think about them but never fix them. I have just gotten lemon pie ingredients and I promise I will make the fabulous cookies.

Becky, I've eat these my whole life and I'm 64 yrs old. My kids n grandkids love these simple cookies! We called the cow patties! They would keep your taste buds happy til Fried Chicken, Rice or taters, Green beans or Black eyed peas ( if rice, mama would make black eyes peas, they go together real good), Cole Slaw, Mac n Cheese, Sliced tomatoes, Cucumbers, Onion chunks, Cornbread & Biscuits! Homemade Coconut Cake or Chocolate Cake! There was a slew of us and she had to make alotta food to feed us all..All different foods bc some didn't like this or that! I'd eat whatever was put in front of me. There wad'nt no picky bone in my body! I like all kinds of veggies n foods! Of course, the lil ones got away with more than we did! We had to eat what was put before us or go hungry! Daddy Mama both would tell us thats supper n thats what you'll eat! Dig in! Daddy was like, We ain't rich and your mama stood in this kitchen and cooked this food. Its all hot and good cause your mama can't cook bad food if she tried so y'all appreciate it n her, Thank the Good Lord n Mama for this delicious meal and eat it cause thats all there is! He or Mama would say Grace and the lil ones plates were made, then the rest of us! Daddy n Mama always waited til us kids plates were made before they made theirs. When I got up in age, I figured out why. There was many a times that they didn't get much if any. They'd make sure there was enough food for all us kids first! Many times we didn't have much food to cook n we'd have Biscuits n Syrup or Butter Biscuits with a lil sugar on them, or Hoe cake n sorghum syrup with a lil fat back! Becky honey, I could live on fat back, hoe cake, and sorghum syrup! I started eating less when we didn't have much food n I told my older brother n my two sisters a lil younger than me to not get as much food, so Mama n Daddy could eat! There was many a night that me n my older brother wouldn't eat nothing n we'd say, We ain't hungry cause we ate alot at school!! I'd cry when Daddy n Mama didn't eat or didn't get much bc I was mad at myself bc I didn't notice before I did, why they didn't eat! They'd eat the left overs on the younger kids plates if any was left! I'd always try to eat as much as I could at school. I got in trouble a few times for asking other kids if they wanted all their food n if I could have it. Then I told my teacher why n she would let me do it. All the apples n oranges other kids didn't want or eat, I'd take them home! Mama caught on to what I was doing n my brother n we made her cry! It broke her heart bc we went hungry so they could eat! She told us that from that day on, we had to eat! She appreciated us for doing that but yes, I understood...I've done that with my own kids when we didn't have much! Flour is one of those items that can make or break hunger! Thank you for this recipe! I always just make it without a recipe or measurement. Thats the way I've always baked n cooked or prepared food! I'm sorry I told this short story or very long comment! Merry Christmas n God Bless to you and your family! I love you Becky, just like Jesus loves you! 🙏✨💖✨💪🇺🇸😇

Those look fantastic and I will definitely be making these. I love coconut oil it has so many benefits. I make my own peanut butter and almond butter, so I will use those in this. Although instant oats might be better for the recipe, regular rolled oats are lower in GI so you get better sustained energy and much healthier for the blood sugar levels. Thank you so much for this recipe.

    • @TheHillbillyKitchen

FitAnge S Rolled oats are definitely healthier. I use the quick oats in these because they aren't cooked at all. I have tried the rolled oats in these cookies and they are a little dry and hard to chew. I use rolled oats in my oatmeal raisin cookies. I am going to video them soon. I think you will really like that recipe.
I love the homemade peanut butter. I am trying to get Bret switched to it, but he is resisting :)

listen all of your things look very yummy. did you know that your orange cups are for dry inredients, also peanut butter, butter that type of thing. and the glass cups are for liquid items water milk, that type of thing. but it looks like it works anyway. I cook to on u tube. it is cooking with Brenda, my husband has his things with cars on there to. I am going to try a couple of your things, and I subscribed to you. I have an old fashion fudge that I am going to do. it has been in my family for so many years. my mom made it when we was kids. I am 58 now. Bless your kitchen. I just love the fact that you always invite the Lord. Amen

Before you put the peanut butter in measuring cup it'll come out easier & leave less peanut butter if you coat the measuring cup with a olive oil spray or small amount of crisco.

I love your channel and so glad I found you. You do an amazing job explaining recipes. Also love that you encourage others in their faith and walk with God.
I have made these for years just like your recipe. but now cut the sugar way down. I use 1/2 cup sugar or agave or maple syrup
I admit I am used to treats being less sweet though. I sometimes add 1 to 2 packets of stevia to make a little sweeter for others. Stevia on it's own tastes terrible to me but fine when used in conjunction with something else.

Love your channel and I see your a black belt along with most of your family. Awesome what style do you all practice? I have a suggestion for a healthy substitute for sugar that’s healthier to use especially for Brett. It’s called Monkfruit the brand I use is Lakanto it’s the same for measurements you would use for the sugar in your great recipes. I thought this might help you help Brett. I’ve tried your recipes and really enjoy all of them it’s just the way my mom and grandma cooked. I’ve studied Taekwondo and really connected when I saw your dojo full of your students and how you had parties for them giving them some place to go. Anyway stay safe and keep training.

Hi Becky, I was just wondering if you've ever used Monkfruit Sweetener by Lakanto. It does not effect your glycemic index at all. It's granulated just like sugar and you use the exact same amount of Monkfruit sweetener as it calls for sugar. It tastes identical to sugar with absolutely no aftertaste. I use it for my coffee, for all my baking that requires sugar. Best of all there are zero calories. So with Lakanto Monkfruit original sweetener you can have your cake and eat it too. I just thought you might like to try it. I have to watch my sugar as I'm border line diabetic. Thank you for all your amazing videos. God Bless, 😃🙏🇺🇸
