Say what you want about the VA, but the whole "I walked in the shadow of the Aegis's light" part was fucking phenomenal.

God I wish. I was really impressed with the voice acting for all characters but Rex. It sounds like a dude voice acting for the first time and didn't understand what he was doing. Malos on the other hand, out-charismas basically everyone else lol.

I think the VAing in this section is actually pretty good. Even if Rex still has a few iffy moments, it's not as bad as before. In fact I thought he sounded decent at the beginning of the clip after shouting "Pyra!"
In the cutscene before he got pyra's true form the voice acting just seemed way too "off." He sounded so calm, while in game he looks like he's supposed to be screaming
This is my biggest (and probably only)issue with the game, a lot of the voices don't match the mood that's trying to be portrayed
The normal acting moments sound good, it's screaming and stuff that tends to be off. Except Malos, that guy earns his paycheck inthose instances :P
Although Rex seemed iffy at the beginning, I think he sounded pretty good here. His shout of Pyra doesn't feel as woeful as his battle cries in chapter 1. Those were the weakest aspects of his acting. Butin this scene he sounded pretty good.
His VA isn't the main problem, sure his screams are bad until Chapter 4 but the real problem is that the translators of 2 thought it was a good idea to have a character scream "JOIN ME!"
Not even Adam Howden could make that sound good.
If it was translated like 1 he would have said "join me" and screamed afterwards.
Thats becasue japanese rex is suppose to scream the whole time, which doesnt work out great in english, especially when rex's english VA has trouble yelling sometimes. It would make the scene that much more cartoony in english when they are actually going for a more dramatic and serious moment.

Honestly fuck the first phase, it's actually fucking disgusting, and the fight before this one kicked my ass so many times that it's practically numb. And don't even get me started on the fight previous to this one. I love this game to death but recently it's made me question on how good of a gamer I am tbh
UPDATE: I finally beat the first phase and my salt levels have been lowered
I was struggling with the first phase too, then curb stomped them after equipping a bunch of launch resist and shackle resist aux cores.

For anyone who’s going to be taking on this fight for the first time, go for Malos. The cutscene triggers once his HP reaches the halfway point. That being said, Jin can inflict Taunt and draw all of the aggro to him. If you have a Taunt Resistance, equip it to your attacker.
Gabriel Levey And by then, he’ll use his monado arts to blow down and destroy your team. I need some help with this boss fight. Can’t even get him down half way

this fight got a lot easier when I gave nia nothing but healers and only focused on Malos, Nia would switch to her attack blade way too often

I'd agree here. Another thing I'd argue for during certain boss fights like this one is to take control of the tank, because the tank really is the staple keeping everything together. The party lives and dies depending on if Morag and Tora can keep the pressure on them, at least until the superbosses where the answer is 'Solo Tora Fusion Combo Spam.' I found this fight was nearly effortless simply by taking direct control of Morag and giving Nia nothing but healers. Zeke's damage output is insane so he worked well for chunking Malos while Morag drew aggro and either dodged everything naturally or used Aegaeon and Brighid's evasive arts to invalidate any of Malos and Jin's real BS. Any time Morag did get hit, Nia was able to fix the problem quickly with Dromarch or Floren or Vess. Zeke just went to town. Granted I didn't have many rare blades for him, so I had to stick with Herald, Pandoria, and Ursula, but all three contributed very well.
Honestly I think the harder part of the fight is round two. You're forced to use Rex with Pneuma, and while Pneuma is fantastic in the endgame for finishing combos and doing insane damage on chain attacks, in almost any other situation she's lesser when compared to Mythra and her crit-recharge spam. Not to mention Tora and Nia are forced onto you for it, and Tora is notoriously terrible for tanking in this fight, especially with regards to Pneuma's insane damage output. Still, if you just focus on taking out Malos first before Jin can pull any tricks, it's not too bad.
I even use rex with blade nia, only heal and taking potions. Zeke for attack and tora for soaking damage.

You know, later parts of the game seem to exist to make Tora, Morag, and Zeke into jobbers, so I gotta appreciate the little things. Like how Morag got up from complaining about absolute zero to totally save Nia's hide there AND set up a sweet combo for Zeke. That was cool. Or how it's implied they're still fighting Malos later on.

Well, technically Malos is another Monado. Alvis, Pyra/Mythra, Malos are the three Blades of Aegis.
On Mythra there was the word "πνευμα". thats greek for spirit

In this battle, I used Rex as a mix attacker/Healer role (but more focus on latter) with Nia as Blade, Morag as Tank and Zeke as attacker. Gotta say, Nia as a Blade is very helpful to help my party survive.
This fight was the reason I never used Nia’s blade form again

You can also use pouch in your characters so it could help in battle ive did it and it helped a lot make sure to check before getting into battle

the akhos/malos fight was WAY harder than this. By this point you are an overpowerd anime overlord, but when you fight akhos you had only explored like 3 regions which unless you go and fight every single npc means that you are under lvl 26 and you haven't grasp the mechanics of the game well enough.

Wow for me this fight was rough I died multiple times. But when I got ascended pyra I destroyed them. I love this game
I finally won this fight lvl 62 not sure it was needed though setup I used was rex with nia, tora and morag. Morag takes a few hits but heal with nia and she'll be fine tora tanks and takes practically no damage. keep healing morag till your combo then use straight away to end the fight. After the cutscene fight continues but rex is invincible and cant die so easy win then. Malos fight previously was more difficult.
Rex and Pneuma work for Deva apparently...Seriously, the outfits are so similar...

He's actually not that bad as I thought he be, as long you can at least set up 2 or 3 orbs. Go straight for the chain attack.
I think this entire segment of the game is Malos at his douchiest.

Also why is everyone underleveled for this fight? I went through the entirety of Elpys simply without getting into any fights because nothing engaged me. I STILL had 8 levels on these guys XD. I wasn't grinding or cashing in sidequests exp, either. I think simply keeping up to date on sidequests meant that I would be overleveled either way, I guess.

Personally I think Rex’s actor sounds pretty good despite the lack of voice direction. You can tell he’s trying to make it work regardless and I don’t think it’s bad enough that it ruins scenes. Trust me I’ve heard some awful acting too and I never thought he was that bad.

Since no one was helping you, I know I'm late but I'll put in my two cents anyway:
The theme for the 1st phase is called The Power of Jin.
The themes for the cutscene are called The Tomorrow With You and then Counterattack.
The second phase's theme is called You Will Recall Our Names.
The second cutscene's themes are called Crossing Swords and then Ophion.
Good lord, I played XC3 before this, and now I’ve come to play this game, and ain’t no way I’m levels above these dudes and I can’t even finish the first phase. The fact that this guy actually was able to beat him like this just shows how bad of a gamer I am. Party’s at lvl 60 and I still get tossed, and I have no idea how bro has so much health on his characters. If anyone for whatever reason stumbles upon this video, please give me some tips.

The developers should need to nerf this boss fight because it's too overpowered.
Maddragon123 nah, it's perfect difficulty. Some level 3 and 4 specials give you orbs to break. A well balanced team of blades can make and break these orbs via opposing elements and cause a ton of damage if you know your elements and their opposing weaknesses. Also Break, Topple, Lauch, Smash combo does significant damage if you can pull the entire thing off, plus you can get extra gold and sometimes items through this method. Some enemies resist one or some of these though, or even outright not be effected at all.
No, I wouldn’t like that. It took me a while, but I beat them after grinding. Which was what the developers wanted because the land of Morytha had some nasty enemies.
Maddragon123 I find that most of this game can be beaten without extensive grinding. I solved this one mostly by menuing - unless you’re grossy underleveled, I find that most problems can be solved with better equipment, aggro management, and healing. Not that it’s the easiest to play this way, but I think the difficulty is just right
I’m stuck on this part and at level 58-61. I need help, what can I do to beat them? I can’t even get Malos down to 85% health.
You have aegaeon eh? (Niall's Blade) use the aqua + dromarch's venom water + any Dark elemented blade you has, until it has some orbs, build up party gauge and chain attack. Thats how i beat these guys

Why does Malos have Monado Arts...?
ChrisGHD Because the Alrest universe and Bionis/Mechonis universe are made by the same AI (being Klaus) so both have a Monado.
You all are confused. Klaus was the name of Zanza before he destroyed the universe and created a new one. Alvis is the computer of the research facility that would later become the monado.
Now while they may be the same universe, they are loosely connected as far as I'm concerned (and as far as this point in the game) so I'll take anything
Klaus, the Architect, explains near the end of the game that there were three cores to the Trinity Processor that formed the cornerstone of all Blades, basically meaning there are three Aegises. Two of them, Pyra and Malos, remained in Alrest, but the third one disappeared after triggering a space-time transition. That third Aegis is heavily implied to be Alvis from Xenoblade 1, not only because Alvis existed in a separate dimension from Alrest, but the back of his jacket bears the exact same symbol of the Trinity Processor. One of Alvis' lines in the ending to Xenoblade 1 is "I am Monado. I was here at the beginning, and I will proclaim the end."
So yeah, that previous comment sums it up perfectly: "He IS Monado". Aegises and Monados are essentially one and the same.

Not even close. The hardest story fights are actually the solo fights against the rest of the party in the church, because their stats depend on how they were levelled. Levelled them up too much over Rex? Congrats, you've made a literally unwinnable encounter.

I struggled a lot here. To me, this literally was the hardest fight for me outside of the final fight and Superbosses.

Hands down the most epic boss fight in this whole game.
It took some tries to beat them; you need pacience for first part; second part is easier.
Hardest boss fight of the main story by far.
I think Amalthus is harder if you didn't prepare for it.

@@PJDAltamirus0425 I didn't understand how to get the element symbols in chain attacks until literally the Amalthus fight. So I could never get rid of his last chunk of health.

Edit: I eventually beat the beginning of thia battle using Morag as my first unit with Zeke and Rex with Nia as my 3rd unit

The trick I’ve learned to beat this fight is to play as torna and take the attention off of rex and nia
Try played as rex with nia + other healer blade + attack blade.
Zeke for damage. And tora/morag
