      @@JackMackWoodturning Those aren't the kind of risks i meant, I don't mean breaching physical safety.
      What I mean are the kind of risks our egos are afraid of making, fear of trying somethimg new. 'What if it doesn't turn out well?. What if nobody likes it?...
      blah, blah, blah...our egos are not our friends.
      THAT'S what I meant.

    • @JackMackWoodturning
      @JackMackWoodturning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@RevdUp.Art.Fotografer I see. I feel most beginners wouldn’t fully understand the difference between thinking outside the box creatively and sticking within safe working practices. For me teaching woodturning and saying “take risks” don’t go together simply because it could be both misunderstood. I do understand what you were saying 👍🏻

    • @JackMackWoodturning
      @JackMackWoodturning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks guys. Gloves is the one that scares me. Although rings and watches are also a bit crazy.
      The thing about TH-cam is anyone can record them selves and upload. I see a lot of clearly novice turners on here essentially documenting their learning process.. but they don’t seem to tell others they still don’t know what they are doing. So a novice watches them and thinks that’s the right way and so on until we have nothing but muddy waters. It’s a real shame and makes the journey into woodturning a lot harder for those using TH-cam as a resource.

      He’s using proper quality (very expensive) birch ply, so the voids are pretty minimal. I’ve got pieces of that, but also pieces of the worst quality stuff you can get, which is so full of voids and filler, and the outside ply layer so thin, you wonder how it stays together at all, plus the inner plys are really uneven and wobbly-looking. That would definitely not look nice as a bowl 😁.
