Hi Heath, That's good information. 50 Lb is the limit for knots. That's real easy to remember. I tied all my gear at home and had plenty of spare leaders and flounder rigs ready to go. Hope the family is well and the "Fish Slayer" is on the water soon. See you on Sunday. Take care and have fun, Mickey
Hi Mickey, thanks for watching. Yea, I used to not pay attention to this stuff, took years of failures to learn some theory behind it. Then I really started paying attention to the quality of my knots and the warping it can cause when cinching it down. That was when I was a teenager, then I started to understand I was compromising the integrity of the mono and damaging it. That led to me learning about crimping and how to do it correctly. I totally agree with being rigged up before heading out, I'm the same way. I like getting out to the fishing grounds and being able to set out the lines and start going for it. Hopefully soon the weather here let's up and I can get back out on the water. The wind has been blowing and the storms are relentless lately. Avi and the girls say "Hi Mickey". Hope all is well with your family too. Talk to you Sunday. Take care :)
Hi Heath, "Hi" to Avi and the Fishing Girls. We've had drizzle and wind the past few days but it's going up to 84 and sunny for the next few days. Hope you get good weather. "See" you on Sunday. Take care and have fun, Mickey
Thanks a million for watching and leaving some excellent feedback. I truly appreciate it and your support for the channel. Thanks again and good in your journeys with the new boat. Tight lines & take care ;)
Well done, I always tie knots because I never fish for big things. I found it difficult to tie 80 pound mono at first, but you get used to it. Personally, I would only use cramps if I was trolling for big big fish
Hi Alex, Thanks a boat load for watching and sharing. I used to only tie knots on everything. I had zero faith in crimps, until repetitive losses on Marlin. Then When I worked with some great folks on a head boat that would high speed troll for marlin on day trips to Bimini, I learned how easy and reliable they could be if done correctly. That's when I started utilizing them on the lighter line, especially when I target wahoo. Sincerely, thanks for sharing, and always being here to spread so positivity and support the channel. Couldn't do this without you. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thanks a boat load for watching and leaving some fantastic feedback. I truly appreciate it and your support for the channel. Glad you found the info useful, simple & understandable. That's what I strive for. Thanks again. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thanks a million for watching and always being here to show some support. I sincerely can't thank you enough for making this happen. Glad you enjoyed the info. As soon as the weather cuts me some slack here, I'll be getting back out on the water, and hopefully making some nice fishing episodes. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thanks, very informative. I'm working on my surf fishing rigs and was wondering if I should be crimping. I did a few on 50LB FC and was not convinced it was the right way to go. 50LB is definitely the breaking point (LOL) for where knots become problematic FC. Polamar works but not(KNOT) so sure about uni. It looks like it wants to slip.
Hi Chuck, thanks for watching, sharing and always being here to show some support. All the kids say "Hi Chuck". Yes, the wind has been blowing and the storms haven't been letting up... But as soon as they do, me and the crew will be back on the water, hopefully, make some memories and great fishing episodes to share. Sincerely, can't thank you enough for all you do for the channel. Hope all is well with you and your family. Tight lines & take care ;)
Hi Rick, thanks a boat load for watching and making me laugh with that one. As simple as it may seem, your saying is accurate. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Waiting for the weather to clear up so I can get back out on the water and hopefully make some nice fishing episodes. Until then, I'll be sharing knowledge. Sincerely, can't thank you enough for your support and making this happen. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Alex, thanks for watching. Still patiently waiting for the wind to calm itself... hopefully soon. That giant Bull is out there somewhere. Talk to you soon :)
Thanks a million for watching, sharing and always keeping me on my toes. As soon as the weather gives me a break, I'll be back out on the water, hopefully making some exciting fishing vids. Until then, gotta keep sharing some knowledge. Thanks again for all of support and making this happen. Tight lines & take care ;)
Got a lot out of this Heath. When do you use an aluminum sleeve and when do you use a metal sleeve? I have been using aluminum for fluorocarbon. The Bill Fish brand. Is that wrong? Thanks again
Nope nothing wrong with that. I use those aluminum single sleeves for deep dropping. I use double barrel sleeves for trolling. The brand I prefer is Billfisher.
@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing is there a preference when using short or long sleeves? I believe I have the wrong crimping tool so I will look into it. My tool crimps the center of the sleeve. Not oval. Thanks for helping.
Yes I have tested them. Not on tension machines, but against fish, real world applications. I will tie knots with 60 periodically, but the crimps wok fine. Personally, for me, 80 is too chunky for knots... my planer setups have 80 on them, they are crimped.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing with 80 and even 100 lb I go to a snell knot for circle hooks.. and a uni to the swivels. The reason I asked was I saw a video where they test crimps vs knots .. (Palomar) in 80.. both about the same.. it came down to details and practice.. Thanks for the reply!
Ok so I see single barrel (oval) crimps in single crimp length & double barrel when to use either??? What about the 3 crimp length crimps? Better? Brass? Copper? Aluminum alloy? Ayayay! I have quite a selection already & still cant seem to get the same answer from any 2 videos I research.
Personally I got with the single length double barrel brass. That's for most things, trolling, deep dropping, ect... My next choice is double length single sleeve (oval) aluminum. Hope this helps
Thanks a million for watching and sharing. I totally agree, I choose a knot anytime over a crimp, but when that line gets thick, you have no choice. And yes knotable fishing wire is great. Didn't cover wire in this one... It's a whole different ballgame. Thanks again for your support. Tight lines & take care ;)
Yes I did leave out wire. It's a whole other subject and ballgame. There's knotable, single strand, and multi strand cable. And when it comes to setting a crimp on wire it's a little different theory behind it. But you've given me a great idea to possibly make an episode on it. Thanks again. Take care ;)

Yes 50 is definitely my stopping point... I use a double clinch knot. Good luck out on the beach ;)
Thank you for the needed information
More great info Heath! Hope you can get out soon. I know the weather hasn't been cooperating. Regards to the Fam and ma dude!

Have you tested crimps vs knots?
My cross over is 80 lb mono/fluro... crimps for troll 80 lb leader, knots for bottom rigs
Yes I have tested them. Not on tension machines, but against fish, real world applications. I will tie knots with 60 periodically, but the crimps wok fine. Personally, for me, 80 is too chunky for knots... my planer setups have 80 on them, they are crimped.

can I crimp kevlar line not for fishing to fasten things ? 2mm to be precise
Thanks
Yes... you'll wanna use single sleeve, not double barrel
@South Florida Saltwater Fishing please guide i have 2mm with oval hole in ferrule
The Conell knot is superior.

Cool. Got those. Thx!
I prefer knots where i can but 80lb mono is a bugger...so crimps. I like knotable wire too nice and neat.

Just saying you left out the third option wire
