      That's very, very close :) Asterophysus batrachus. It helps when you know how these words form from other words and what those other words mean in their language (latin or greek).

    Those are some beautiful Argentia. They are very aggressive and have a very powerful bite force.

    I wish cichlids weren't the way they are, best kept in 500g tank in pairs. The red dovi looks insane, the black nasty is beautiful as well. Iam a personal fan of beanie. Shit Vic you could probably go into the canal in the back yard an catch all those fish down there. The invasive fish paradise. You ever go an try an catch invasive fish?

      I wish I had the time; indeed I could display a vast array of local natives and non-natives. When/if we ever open with business hours, I will need some collaborator-anglers to get this scheme going :)

    the nuchal hump gets bumps sometimes when it swells as the fish approach breeding.

      even reddish, as if slightly inflamed, like pimples?

    @jesuscichlidtank 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lymphocystis is a common iridovirus found in both freshwater and marine fish. Mostly causing a change in appearance by the presence of pink or white bumps anywhere on the fish's body. Unfortunately, there is no treatment, but the disease is self limited and does not cause any serious clinical signs

    What is the difference between maskaheros argentea/vieja argentea/ platinum and silver cichlid? Because if you ask me, they all look the same….

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The two scientific names are synonymous, with the first one the currently accepted and the vieja one is a junior synonym. Silver vieja is a common name for the same fish afaik. Silver cichlid I've never heard of but I am not a cichlid guy much. Platinum is usually used to call certain color morphs of any fish.

      So far so good. Feeding about 2x less than when it was cooler. I hope this is seasonal. The water temp is 86F now.

    Hi Viktor, I have 4 of these that are 10 months old I also got at about an inch or so. They are about 5-6” still can’t tell the sexes, no nuchal humps yet. Hope you are well.

      Hey Mike, yea, as I said short of venting, we couldn't tell the genders until about a foot or larger.
