    oh, man, I grew old before my time, being raised on classic rock radio. I still remember my mom laughing at me as I sang along to ACDC lyrics I couldn't understand, driving back from a dentist appointment.
    You talk about Soundgarden, but Audioslave is my own. Finding those three Audioslave albums after getting nostalgic for ATV Off-road Fury IV was like rediscovering fire. I would listen to Revelations every day on the way home from work.

      That's awesome! I think around the time of Audioslave I was deep down in the punk years but I did love Rage Against the Machine. It's interesting to hear how often people who came up a little bit behind me often mention how they first heard some music through video games. I hear the Tony Hawk games mentioned a bunch. I mean, there still is no Google at the time so it has it's own romanticism.

    "Care Bear record player . . . I promised myself I wouldn't sing on this . . ." 😆 this is a great video! I love hearing about how people got into different genres of music. And yes, The Misfits Walk Among Us! One of the best!! The Misfits and The Ramones got me into "classic" punk rock and totally changed my life. I played in a variety of different bands but I was in a punk rock band for close to 10 years.

      Sam, I'm going to need the name of that band. Are there any recordings online?!

      @@TheBookGraveyard We cut a rough demo right when I joined and it's (unfortunately) the only thing we recorded the whole time we were together. I'll send it to you

    Oh yeah man! That's awesome stuff! I'm not well versed in punk so I'd be interested in seeing more of what you got of it. There was a huge local punk scene when I was in highschool (00-04) so I went to alot of local shows. Good times.
    Thanks for sharing. I dig it!

    The one that did it for me was the first Minor Threat EP. Five seconds into "Filler" my DNA was rewired. I instantly stopped smoking cigs and traded in every piece of music I had, searching, like you said, for anything that "looked" punk or HC (grabbing several you showcased here).

    • @TheBookGraveyard

      Minor Threat changed a lot of people's heads! That EP was perfection and they were saying all kinds of things that were inspiring and different and angry.

    Love this look at your music journey. Two things that have been a constant in my life, music and reading. Really do dig your channel. And it is not so much the content but how you present it. But I really came here to say that Pink Floyd's Animals is the only album to ever give me nightmares. When I was young I would spend the night at my friend Deano's house. He shared a room with his older brother who always had the turntable cued up with rock and metal albums that would play all night long ( I liked that and it became a habit of mine, but more or less just falling to sleep with the headphones on). But that damned Pink Floyd album f'd me up. Some of the strangest and worrying images I've ever dreamed. It would be years before I could appreciate anything by Floyd.

      First off, thanks so much for the kind words! Animals does have a nightmarish quality to it, eh? I think it's the pig squeals. Also, it is heavily a Roger Waters album and his stuff always felt dark, minor key and cold. They were something else.

    You're a badass, Nick. Love this format of the telling of your musical journey. Rush is one of the greatest bands of all time. Maiden > Priest. Also, you were going to a Fugazi show the year I was born, HA. Cant wait for more of these vids.

    • @TheBookGraveyard
      @TheBookGraveyard  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      ha! Now I would agree with your assessment that Maiden was better than Priest but back then it just wasn't clicking for me.

      Black Sabbath is so D&D that it should be mentioned in Appendix N

    Enjoyed this. I dig horror punk but I never can seem to find much that doesn’t sound like it was recorded in a bathtub. I like Misfits, Calabrese, Silent Horror, Deathtones. Any suggestions?

    • @TheBookGraveyard
      @TheBookGraveyard  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      haha recorded in a bathtub is punk as fuck. As much as I love the Misfits I was never really into the horror punk that followed. I did like Balzac though which was a Japanese horror punk band.

    Pretty amusing, Nick. Being an old fart, I listened to Alice Cooper and Blue Oyster Cult as a teenager. Strangely enough, I also own most of the punk records you showed. I suggest you buy a copy of The Suicide Commandos "Make a Record". Straight up Minneapolis punk. Saw them many times and I can't even tell you how many times I saw Husker Du. My favorite punk concert? Clash/David Johansen/Undertones at the St. Paul Civic Center in 1978 or 1979. I was drunk that I fell off my chair three times onto some poor guy in a wheelchair that was seated behind me.

    • @TheBookGraveyard
      @TheBookGraveyard  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Stiv! Of course you are also punk. You're my man. I have heard the name Suicide Commandos before but never heard them. I'm listening to it now. It rules.
      I would have loved to seen Husker Du back in the day. Were you at the recording of the Land Speed Record?!
      Whenever I hear St. Paul Civic Center all I think of is that Replacements song. That's one hell of a time to be going to shows with punk just starting.

    Uncanny. Your musical journey mirrors mine almost to a T. The only deviation is Pink Floyd; never been a fan.

    Black Flag ''Loose Nut'', Crass ''Penis envy'', The first Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I. ''Dealing with It'', The Exploited ''Jesus Is Dead'' EP, all The Meatmen (Turbo Lover, parody of Judas Priest, I hope you have that), and amazing compilations like ''We Wont Be Your Fucking Poor''. So much souvenirs... You should definitely keep this up Nick.

      Hell yes. I have a few of those. I saw The Meatmen open for Gwar once. It was amazing.

    Yes! More punk rock storytime videos, please!
    But be careful, Nick. Whenever you say something nice about post-Danzig Misfits, Glenn gets a little fatter and more miserable.
