  • Inspired by my favorite video game, Slapshot Rebound, I’ve now been learning how to play hockey for 100 days! I’ve played a roller drop on just about every week since about a month into learning and with each week I’m improving. I’ve still got a long ways to go but we’re getting there! Thank you guys for all the support!

    That's fantastic to see.
You're doing really well for 3 months.
I started playing at the age of 54.
    Never too late.

hey buddy, talk with your local hockey shop and say you are playing on a sport court outside, they will recommend some softer grippier wheels. They might run out a bit quicker but it will be easier to get a better stride in allowing you more comfort on the feet. Good luck, hopefully see you on the sheet soon too!

It’s a slick court. I play minor pro and was there this weekend for the first time and it’s plastic tiles. I had soft wheels and was still sliding around a bit and it just takes chunks out of the wheels.

@@ArchieCrypto Yeah so I bought soft wheels and I just cant get a grip, is there any solution?

@@Kazxi.you can try less softer wheels. It’s better to experiment all around and try to find something that you’re most comfortable with.

buddy id also recommend doing some basic drills to help get more comfortable, try c cut holds each leg, down and back 5 times, some corkscrews down and back 3-5 times and russian circles all 5 as a warm up before hoping into the game.

you going to hear a lot of tips from a lot of people but one tip that everyone will agree with is work out the legs. The more you work out the legs the more you can play. Its that simple. a strong base will allow you to go much farther then others.

I can’t tell if it’s just the angle of the camera or you looking down but try to keep your head up. But even though you are not playing checking it still helps with your awareness

Thanks dude! It’s more the camera angle now, I tried tilting it up more and you just can’t see the puck when I have it

you might have the wrong wheels, but being outdoors with no cover
i could see dirt rain and algae making it slippery if nobody does maintenance on it.
but bro, your doing great. your vision and iq is all there, stick handles are buttery too.
one thing i notice with your skating is that youre very stiff and upright.
once you can move youre gunna be dangerous.
ill share some insight with you!
your base foundation is too narrow to be effective,
im noticing your knees almost touching together frequently throughout the video.
    get those knees wider.
your shoulders should jusssst be able to fit between your knees in a good strong stance.
its a common misunderstanding for beginners when told, "get low" to hinge forward at the waist.
a more detailed explanation to the advice "get low" involves the ankles, knees, and hips.
    ill elaborate:
if youre standing up and bend only at the joint of the knees, eventually you will fall backwards.
that's where ankle flexibility comes in. as you bend your knees, lean forward on your ankles.
while bending at the knees and ankles, the hips come into the equation.
try to get your butt down closer to the ground, while simultaneously keeping your chest up.
remember to keep your base wide. and this is a proper foundation.
being wide and low increases balance and the ability to create more power!
with all your joints compressed like this, when you stretch them out you cover way more area.
