- The 4th edition of the Altra Rivera has dropped. I did not expect to love them as much as I currently do.

Absolutely! Never understood why this model is so overlooked. It's awesome value for money. Been running in my Rivera 2s for close to 2 years now, and they're some of the most comfortable and sturdy shoe in my rotation. I'd be curious to try the fourth iteration too.
I will buy this version. I love my Rivera 2 still using it despite the worn out outsole . Thank you td miller 🎉
You are spot on TD about the Rivera 4 and are one of the few to show it the love! I was ready to give up on Altra because it felt like their Escalante had become so wide and high volume. I never even realized they offered a slim fit like the Rivera. It also feels more peppy than the Escalantes and the Torins, but maybe that is just me. Just a great all around shoe that nobody knows about.
I liked my Riv 3s so much that I bought about 3 different color ways, and I’m now curious about the 4s. Nice review and thanks!
Timothy, your review on the Altra Rivera 4 was super insightful! Thanks for shedding light on a gem that's flying under the radar, hehe. Keep up the awesome work!
Really liking my 3s but coming close to 300km only in a few months, so not sure they’ll last the full year. Thanks for the review of the 4, they’ll be next!
Please compare to new Escalante 4🏃♂️🥳
Will do, once I can get my hands on them! I'm excited about those!
I feel this way about the Outroad 1 (haven't tried 2). Totally underappreciated!
Yep! Another great shoe! The 2 is basically the same shoe, with some minor tweaks ✌🏻
Got it a month ago (~200K), the bounce is great (better than Torin 7 IMO). The tighter fit is brilliant for routes with sharp turns, in particular urban environment. I'm a size 10 in "normal" Altra's, and it feels snug, probably a tiny bit too snug for a swelling foot with a bugnion over more than a half marathon. Splay isn't a noticable feature, but the light bounce and the curve control is. My favorite Altraso far 😀...
Dam it! Have to order these. 😬
Rivera 4 are listed on the Altra website as 'standard' fit. Looks like Vanish Tempo are now also 'standard' fit. Not sure if it's a website mistake or if Altra is changing things?
@@mmmmmlemons I think Altra is simply going away from the whole "3 footshapes" thing. As Slim fit seems to give people the impression they are skinny. 🤷🏻♂️ Escalante has also been reclassified from Original to Standard back or Original 🙈
what’s the width in the toe box like
How would you compare them to the Torin 7’s? Currently using the torins and love them but the outsole is worn out already and these are very affordable.
@@aquietmomentinmind the Torin 7 is slightly wider and bulkier than the Rivera 4. I used to like the Torin, but since the 7 I've switched to the Rivera. It's a nice no-nonsense daily trainer, at a very good price point.
@@TDMiller thanks for the response! I was a Hoka guy before so the torins have been lovely and wide. You say they are slimmer, is that by much in comparison? A few cm’s? Wouldn’t want to go to the Rivera if it’s going to feel to slim.
@@aquietmomentinmind hard to say to be honest. They'll feel wider than Hokas or any other mainstream brand, but you'll notice they be slimmer than the Torin. It's just a few mm, but if you have wide feet you'll notice.
