    Absolutely! Never understood why this model is so overlooked. It's awesome value for money. Been running in my Rivera 2s for close to 2 years now, and they're some of the most comfortable and sturdy shoe in my rotation. I'd be curious to try the fourth iteration too.

    I will buy this version. I love my Rivera 2 still using it despite the worn out outsole . Thank you td miller 🎉

    Timothy, your review on the Altra Rivera 4 was super insightful! Thanks for shedding light on a gem that's flying under the radar, hehe. Keep up the awesome work!

    You are spot on TD about the Rivera 4 and are one of the few to show it the love! I was ready to give up on Altra because it felt like their Escalante had become so wide and high volume. I never even realized they offered a slim fit like the Rivera. It also feels more peppy than the Escalantes and the Torins, but maybe that is just me. Just a great all around shoe that nobody knows about.

    I liked my Riv 3s so much that I bought about 3 different color ways, and I’m now curious about the 4s. Nice review and thanks!

    Really liking my 3s but coming close to 300km only in a few months, so not sure they’ll last the full year. Thanks for the review of the 4, they’ll be next!

    I feel this way about the Outroad 1 (haven't tried 2). Totally underappreciated!

      Yep! Another great shoe! The 2 is basically the same shoe, with some minor tweaks ✌🏻

    Got it a month ago (~200K), the bounce is great (better than Torin 7 IMO). The tighter fit is brilliant for routes with sharp turns, in particular urban environment. I'm a size 10 in "normal" Altra's, and it feels snug, probably a tiny bit too snug for a swelling foot with a bugnion over more than a half marathon. Splay isn't a noticable feature, but the light bounce and the curve control is. My favorite Altraso far 😀...

      Will do, once I can get my hands on them! I'm excited about those!

    Im coming back to my Altra go to guy TDM:
    did you experience any issues with the outsole durability?
    the glued rubber strips on both of my Rivera 3s start to peal of after only 250k (the glue is
    as the Rivera 4 seems to have the same outsole I'm not sure if I should buy them even though the 3s fit perfect

      @@fidru after >330km I've not had any durability issues with the outsole. The midsole is slightly worn down, but not too bad imho.

      now that I own a pair of Rivera 4 myself and did 4 runs in them, they are unfortunately leaving my shoe rotation (maybe I will use them as a gym shoe but not for running)
      a) they are definitely smaller than the threes.
      but not only a tiny bit shorter but way more shallow and more important: the outsole is 2mm more narrow (which is ridiculous as it already is altras slimmest shoe - shoud have called it "extra slim fit")
      b) the ride is way harder than it was in the three which disqualifies them for me as an easy/recovery run shoe.
      Even though I din't like the upper and terrible laces of the threes I will keep on using them. I guess the outsole issues came from the fact that I did a lot of treadmill runs in them

    The rivera 4 aren't shorter, they are slimmer and the upper is tougher so, for exampple, i needed 1/2 a size up. Also something changed (at least in the pair I have tried) in the midsole since it seems less responsive and more rigid. It has become a faster shoes but (at least for me) I wouldn't use it for more than 5k runs while with the 3 I was comfortable to go over 10 kms. In the standard fit...maybe with an updated foam they would be great.

    Rivera 4 are listed on the Altra website as 'standard' fit. Looks like Vanish Tempo are now also 'standard' fit. Not sure if it's a website mistake or if Altra is changing things?

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mmmmmlemons I think Altra is simply going away from the whole "3 footshapes" thing. As Slim fit seems to give people the impression they are skinny. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Escalante has also been reclassified from Original to Standard back or Original 🙈

    How would you compare them to the Torin 7’s? Currently using the torins and love them but the outsole is worn out already and these are very affordable.

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@aquietmomentinmind the Torin 7 is slightly wider and bulkier than the Rivera 4. I used to like the Torin, but since the 7 I've switched to the Rivera. It's a nice no-nonsense daily trainer, at a very good price point.

    • @aquietmomentinmind
      @aquietmomentinmind 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TDMiller thanks for the response! I was a Hoka guy before so the torins have been lovely and wide. You say they are slimmer, is that by much in comparison? A few cm’s? Wouldn’t want to go to the Rivera if it’s going to feel to slim.

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aquietmomentinmind hard to say to be honest. They'll feel wider than Hokas or any other mainstream brand, but you'll notice they be slimmer than the Torin. It's just a few mm, but if you have wide feet you'll notice.
