Thomas, I love how you find the beauty in the small, "mundane", parts of nature. You see beauty where most people wouldn't even look. Thank you for sharing.
Thomas I don’t run my van heater in the winter either. I use hiking poles and they freeze like your tripod legs. I put them in front of the heater when I wake up and 15 mins is all it takes to thaw whatever needs to thaw. I do the same with my hiking boots.
Short & Sweet .... I love the cold!! Here (Australia) it's summer & we had a 41deg C day earlier in the week .... ( I don't like summer here)...... LOVE your work
It's always good to see you. Thanks for doing your best to get me out to make images. Keep at it. I have the hardware. All I am missing is the drive, the talent, the skill, and a sense of well-being. Trust me, you're keeping me from thinking I am done out there. Best wishes, from Texas.
Oh Thomas! I love the humor in your last video images where you just couldn’t find enough to make a decent image worthy of your time on this shoot. Kudos to you. ❤
Those naps after being out exploring a cold winter's morning are good. I usually have another short one just as it's getting dark when I come in from the afternoon of outdoors photography. Really liked your natural abstract image in this video, Thomas. Whatever else I'm going out to photograph I always keep an eye open for any natural abstracts that might happen along.
I haven't been to the Lake District for several years now & watching this has made me realise I need to visit again with my camera in tow. You need to invest in one of those long hot water bottles that will help you keep warm, too.
I was at that exact jetty during a race (of sorts) in December. You are right, I couldn't resist the image. But that did distract me from collecting a vital piece of information that eventually caused us to lose a significant edge in the race. I'm not bitter though. Photography first; always.
Was only at Derwent 3 weeks ago following your advice from your last video in Scotland saying to get out and go.. got a couple of shots I’m happy with 🙂
I spent 2 weeks on the ice recently, I know nobody else has those images. Oddly enough, while I was out there, a patrolling military Cyclone helicopter approached and passed over me at 200 feet- I bungled the photo I attempted as I was using manual focus on the ice.
It got down to about 5 degrees Fahrenheit last night here. So about -15 Celsius. Michigan, USA. I've camped in temperatures like this before, but it's been a long time.
It was crazy last week here in the deep south US (central Louisiana). Obviously nothing for folks farther north, but it got down to 14F / -10C for us, and 100 miles farther south (about 45 miles from the Gulf of Mexico) it got down to 2F / -17C. Now today it's 72F / 22C. Bonkers.
May I ask - which gloves do you use when on a photography outing? Been looking for a good pair. Thanks for the videos, Thomas. Always a good day when that notification comes in!
off topic but could do with some advice if possible pls pal,, im a broke canon user, got a fhew lens with a 5d ii, you used to shoot the 5d iv and you got to use the 5dsr on a trip, there my options for a new to me, if you had to pick one today what would it be. if you get chance to reply thanks
Love love your videos and work. However, so many channels that I follow have all gotten those new Hasselblad cameras. I really liked it when you went from the Z7ii to the Z8. will you go back to the Z8 ever?
Cold weather camping tip: Sleeping in the clothes you will wear the next day is not a smart idea as they gather body moisture overnight, and if you are going to be cold sleeping, wear a hat & necktube. Checking weather here in NH USA, it's -56F (not C) wind chill on top of Mt Washington. Crystal clear is terrible for landscapes.
Photo content very good but first 6 minutes a bit tedious and then a lengthy advert near the end. Would much prefer just 10 minutes of great photo content. Sorry to be slightly negative but I only kept watching because I knew it would get better. Thanks for the photo content.
Great video, but was a law passed at some point in time that states that these type of videos must include a scene that proves the creator can make coffee? Why has the coffee making scene become mandatory? Everyone does it. Personally, I don't care if you can create coffee. Some of us don't even like coffee. Maybe do a "I can make hot chocolate" scene, or a "I can make buttered toast" scene. Switch it up every once in a while.
I respectfully disagree. I think one of the strengths of Tom's videos is the context he includes. It's not all just bare photography, but the entire experience.
@lphilpot01 thank for your reply, I totally understand where you are coming from, I truly enjoy his work and equally a hot brew, but why not chuck up a map showing us the location he will be shooting in, what gear he plans to use, or a bit of history about the area, instead let's watch him sit in his van brewing up another cuppa, it just seemed like a wasted 5 mins.

"Freezing conditions, when I was driving down here, it was -5C, -6C..." *cries in Canadian
Wow, I love the abstract ice image!
Loved the ice photos
lovely Airbus A400M Atlas transport plane :) stunning conditions Tom!
Love the ice picture. 3D look and feel to it.

'Cold' is a mater of perspective. This weekend's forecast high is -32 Celsius.
Thanks for creating and sharing this video. Lovely images/video of your hike around the Lake District. So pretty in the winter.

Cold here too. I’m home snug as a bug in a rug watching you out in the cold! :-)
Amazing landscapes! Enjoyed the ice photo too.
Was -27c here the other day. No way I was going outside to shoot that day! Stay warm!
When I go camping I take pre-ground coffee beans with me. Such a time saver & less waste to dispose of when travelling.
Yes you need to sort out the teasmaid for the morning, nice cuppa in bed first thing. 👍
Man that was cooooold 🥶 4x4 on point for those conditions !
Thomas, sleep in a thin wool cap for maximum comfort. It makes a big difference in the cold.

-5°c is not cold, mate. It’s -18°c in the sunshine here in Montreal. I wish it was -5°c.
I'm in Ohio and we were -22 c last week
The ice abstract has a richness which is very appealing: worth the walk!
Loved the abstract Tom and agree with your closing comment about being out there just being an award in itself even if you don’t get an image
Love it Thomas! Great images!

Another inspiring video, thanks Tom 👍🏻

man that's rough when 4 degrees is "misleading" ha

Not 1st or 3rd, just looking forward to watching this episode...
Today it is Hasselblad video
That’s it. X2D purchase it is. 🤪

Its funny how at 14:33 you say you didn't feel compelled to break out the camera when there is a potentially great shot during that moment.
Have you considered an electric blanket?

Airbus A400M
It was indeed.
@@TJA-nn2vq YES! :) Sorry. Yes, it has propellers. The Globemaster III has jet engines.

No one cares about your opinion.
Is this a camper van channel or a photography channel? 🤔
Luv ya Tom but watching you make and sip coffee ?????? Why man????? Could have started the vid at about the 5 min mark.
