My headcanon is, now that silvers timeline is safe hes much more optimistic and kind. Just like how present trunks is in superhero compared to future trunks in z(which are around the same age)
Wait, is Silver's future good? Because other than sports the only reason he ever comes back in time is to save the future like the Rivals games or Forces.
@@castform7his future is good but every now and then something happens, the future is again bad and Silver needs to come back to help The last time was when the metal virus destroyed all life on the planet and currently in IDW Silver is back on the past to visit his friends (so there is no world ending catastrophe in sight, he is just spending time with sonic and Blaze)
Watch Sonic Theory's video titled: 'Why Silver is Perfectly Flawed' Silver's character is a lot more complex and isn't as simple as him being a naive justice warrior. I feel Silver will resonate more with adults rather than Kids when they introduce him in the live action.
I dont mind the comic versions of Silver, but the 06 version is definitely my favorite. He isn't too over the top or anything. He's just doing what he thinks is right in an optimistic way. Another thing people have to remember is that he's literally from a ruined future, with no family, friends, or practically anything. So I would imagine him to be amazed, but maybe even confused when he travels to the past for the first time, since it's a place he's never seen before. So it would make sense for him not to be as enthusiastic as much people might say. He's still probably learning things that he has no idea existed, and he probably doesn't know how to truly feel about that. So, in return, it makes him feel sorta akward, which is something that I oddly think fits him very well. A kind, optimistic, serious, but akward guy just trying to do the right thing. It makes him feel so much more relatable in a way. In all honesty, I really think he deserves better, and I really hope he gets his own game someday, or at least feature in a Sonic game (with his 06 personality)
I think you make a decent point, but personally I kind of like how IDW interprets him. For one thing he didn’t grow up in a fiery apocalypse where it was a struggle to survive every day, so it’s a little understandable that he wouldn’t be as cynical, but putting that aside it’s not like we don’t see Silver get serious in IDW. whether it’s the metal virus, the guilt he feels from harming a seemingly innocent Duo the Cat, or or feeling generally direction less silver has shown more emotion than just “cinnamon roll“. And this is just a personal thing, but we already have sonic and shadow for the whole “serious but snarky male hedgehog“ thing so I think it’s fine to lean into his elements of friendship and embodying the hope for a better tomorrow. With all this said in an ideal situation I think we should have almost a merger of the two. We’re silver can be very serious and stoic when he needs to be but also very uplifting and approachable the other half of the time. But if we can only have one or the other, I would rather have silver be a lovable, well-meaning hero with his own stick rather than just being another snarky hero
I like Silver being the way he is in the IDW comics and i personally don't see an issue with it. Silver in 06 was on a mission and had to take it seriously so it wouldn't make sense for silver to act the way he did in the IDW comics. In the Zombie virus arc Silver was similar to his self in 06 because he was trying to protect the world but when he's comfortable or with his friends he acts like a dork. it gives silver more personality Imo
agreed here. The characterizations dont necessarily contradict eachother when the one we see in IDW is one who actually got a chance to breath and not be in overdrive mode 24/7 like in 06 and I guess Forces (but we can all agree he was written terribly there).
Silvers my fave Sonic character as well! But… let’s be honest he’s always been a lovable dork. I haven’t been able to read any of the comics even tho I REALLY want to, but from what I’ve seen I like his portrayal, and it feels like a solid continuation of his character. He’s kind, smart, but a bit naive. If you are into MBTI, Silver is an INFP. INFPs are often referred to as little cinnamon rolls because they are just kind, gentle, and want things to work out. They can definitely be snarky, but it’s not a defining characteristic, and I don’t remember him as that. Him being more gentle and in touch with his emotions makes him who he is, and really helps separate him as his own character and not another version of Sonic or Shadow. Honestly I just want more Silver. He’s the best, and inspired one of my characters who is a fellow INFP, Thomas. Love your vids as always :) here’s hoping we get a silver end credit scene in December 😂😂😂
I think they started to write Silver as a "Cinnamon Roll" in IDW to fill in a character trait spot. The specific "Cherry, Goofy, Nuanced, Hopeful, Determined and Soft-spoken" kinda haven't been there for a specific character. Pieces of this are in Amy and Charmy but not in its entirety, and not with the popularity of someone really loved by fans for what they stand for. Someone like a shonen protagonist, but as a side character. Perhaps to fill the character roster with more variety, they spiced Silver up a bit. 🤔That's what I think.
That's probably a big part of it, and also to make the fanon version of Silver canon to please the fanbase. One of Ian Flynn's biggest writing flaws is putting characters in slots they don't fit in just to make a plot move along easier. In most scenarios, you typically want to consider what characters work in a story, but Ian just takes the characters he wants to use and changes them into a different character convenient for a plot point. He alters the cast to fit the story instead of the story for the cast.
Imma be fr, the 006 version of Silver kinda has like... zero personality... Like actually, think about it. He's kinda just... levelheaded, hopeful, and wants to do the right thing. There's nothing really wrong with it, but with a character like that, it's easy to predict what they would do in a given situation, and eventually the character will get boring and repetitive, at least compared to the others. Just like how Vanilla ice cream is good, but wouldn't you rather have Caramel or Cookies n Cream?
Silver has always been one of my favourites since 06. I've always thought that his dorky side was the way he was when there was no immediate threat so he wasn't on guard, but when there is danger he's all business. lol Given the future he came from I can't imagine he had much time to 'chill'. He also has an amazing theme song. 🙂
This is just my personal interpretation, I feel like silver always had that sense of strong friendship and hope for a better tomorrow, he’s just able to lean into that positivity more in the current timeline since (even though he has mentioned that he spent most of his life alone) his situation was most likely far better than crisis city
Silver being a cinnamonroll is good in a way, it proves that his hopeful nature is strong and he will wouldn't mind seeing a lot of things for how good they are, HOWEVER it's getting pushed a lot, you see his hopeful nature can make him both naive and unyeilding, the unyeilding part is where he came from someone who'll not fall into dispair and will fight t'ill his last breath, that notion has lost to the naive part lately. To me Silver is neither an innocent nor an optimst, he's both, a symbole of hope.
I still feel that Archie Silver is my favourite. I just feel that it is like a combo of “06’ era” and IDW. He is more sarcastic and snarky, but overall still a clumsy, goofy and socially inept character. The best of both worlds imo.
I'm more curious about how Silver is on the Japanese side of things, because as we've seen with Shadow it's more consistent in line with how he was always portrayed since SA2. Sonic Forces cutscenes were completely different in Japan compared to the West like Sonic being tortured, but no mention of torture in Japan. Even dialog in Frontiers is different between the 2 regions.
He's not overly serious and doesn't act like he has a chip on his shoulder because his future was saved. The reason why he acts like he does nowadays is because he doesn't live in that hellscape anymore. Let the boy be happy. Sheesh.
A Silver spinoff was planned at one point, but it was sadly scrapped. I wonder what kinds of things would've happened in it. What else could come into the future and threaten Silver's world as well as Sonic's in the future. Up until this video, I had never heard of the "cinnamon roll" thing that Silver is referred to, and to be honest, I don't understand what is trying to be said. Is it because he's being portrayed as an adorkable character in IDW? I feel like if Ian Flynn comes back and does writing for a future game, that he would probably act similarly to how he does in the IDW comics. I haven't really read those, though, so I don't know what to think.
Cinnamon Roll Silver stems from IDW. You always see him smiling and being peppy. It's cute😊 but at some point, it feels like this is all he is in IDW 🤷🏿♂️ but it's probably all because he's a side character
I still want a Silver solo game with Blaze as a playable character. Archie especially and even IDW (no matter how much I hate it), really showed how great Silver can be. Sure, I wish he weren't so dorky in IDW, but they still kept his optimism and determination.
i think silver has "adorkable" moments in 06 too. Like how he acted when he met amy... ideally for me, silver is a balance between the serious and the snarky and the awkward/cute. he grew up in a ruined future where he gained no social skills, but hes also a naive optimist who wants to help people. sometimes this means he'll be ruder than he should be and sometimes this means he'll unwittingly do something endearing. i like 06 best but idw and rivals are fun too. forces is a different character wearing silvers skin, its why he attacked infinite by bashing into him instead of throwing something.
I think we could see silver more next year because the song artist who made Dreams of an absolution(Silver's theme in sonic 06) is currently working something with sega so maybe next year is gonna be Silver's year.
I'm glad someone spoke up about this. This change in personality has occurred in a handful of Sonic characters, but most noticeably in Triple S, or my collective name for Sonic, Shadow, and Silver. I had hoped Sonic Forces and its gravitas would put each hedgehog's style of "badassery" on display... Alas my expectations were thwarted by reality. Expected Sonic: Cool, snarky badass Expected Shadow: Quiet, pensive, yet charismatic badass Expected Silver: ACTUAL optimist, but sort of naive badass ...We saw what reality gave us. smh
Sliver the Hedgehog is a character that I wish we could see more often. During the meta era with sliver his character was not good enough. His character in Sonic 06 is the sliver that I wanted to see. Sonic generations was the weakest cameo of sliver in the franchise for him. If we’re talking about the Sonic Rivals games his character can be a little off at times but he can serious at moments in the Rivals games. I feel like Sonic Force gave sliver such a terrible line to said after Sonic was dead or thought he was alive. I think my biggest problem with Sliver at the moment is that he has not made a good appearance in a Sonic game since like Sonic Rivals. In my opinion I you definitely change through 06 and the meta era. Great video my dude!
100% agree with the cinnamon roll thing. It's such a bizarre way to take his character, and it came completely out of nowhere. Would much prefer to see Silver act like Silver instead of whatever the comic team is writing him as. Also seeing people say it's because his future was saved, when...no? This is one of those things where the Sonic canon just makes no sense, even when Silver's future is "saved," Silver always ends up having to come back to the past because "ha-ha just kidding his future is actually still garbage." After '06 he returned for Rivals, then in Colors DS he says his future is fine, but then in Forces it's a bad future again, but then he saves it at the end of that game presumably, but then his future is covered with the metal virus. The reality of the situation is that he will never have a good future as long as Sega wants to keep bringing him back.
I know I’m kinda late, but here’s my thoughts on this: I don’t think 06 silver and IDW silver are completely different characters, but instead how different the situations are. In 06, we we silver more on “duty” due to the current situation of having discovered who the potential iblis trigger is and is less familiar around sonic and others, which makes him act more serious throughout the game and is more of an awkward character when he was with Amy and even Shadow. However in the IDW comics, they aren’t always in constant threat and silver is more familiar with sonic and others, which leaves him to have his true personality shine through on more occasions and feels much more comfortable around sonic, amy and more characters so he doesn’t feel as awkward as he was in 06, and is also more comfortable with talking with people he never met. And even in 06, we saw silver’s enthusiastic personality when he first went back in time and when he was in the desert, as well as his more anxious side when he first met amy. It’s also worth noting that in the IDW comics, whenever they’re any main threats going on, silver becomes more like how he was in 06, more serious and “on duty”, for example when dealing with the metal virus, or when he was confronting duo in the later issues. Another thing worth noting is that both versions of silver seem to have some form of anxiety and self doubt (which is more clearly developed in the IDW), but despite that both are always seeking justice and trying to do the right thing. So if we go back to the main point, the reason 06 silver and IDW silver act so differently in my opinion is because of the different settings the two silvers are in, and the connections the two silvers have with sonic and the others, but otherwise silver has the same personality in sonic 06 and in the IDW comics. (I also think that the reason silver was acting the way he was in forces was that because both sonic and shadow were absent (more confident, experienced, and a leader-like characters for sonic), silver felt like he needed to act more like a leader (sonic) due to the fact that he was probably the most powerful character among the group at the time, despite being more of a follower than a leader type of character, so that others could potentially feel more at ease if he acted more like sonic) This is obviously just my opinion, and feel free to disagree or correct me if I said any false info
If I had a nickel for every time I've seen a thumbnail with Silver the Hedgehog holding edible sustenance today, I'd have two nickels... which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
I'm gonna be trashed for this, but Silver has always been created as a marketing stunt, Sega wanted to recreate Shadow's popularity with him, make him the next big thing and make spin offs about him. There's a reason he was marketed together with Sonic and Shadow, there's a reason he has a permanent frown on his face during 06, there's a reason he goes super on the climax, if Shadow is Vegeta, then Silver is Trunks. However, because 06 flopped and Silver is less popular than Sega wanted him to be, he's been forced to find his niche beyond his power. Evan may exaggerate when writing him, but I just don't want him to be Shadow 2.0, and him being naive has always been his thing, he follows Amy on her anthics.
Personally, I don't mind his comic characterization all that much. Characters who are in a ruined future that yearn for a world unscarred tend to highly value relics of the past, especially media. Because of that, I've always tended to headcanon him as a bit of a closeted geek, probably a polyglot, and who could potentially unwind into a much brighter and more energetic type of persona if he didn't have to worry about trying to fix his future when he had the means to do so. And with his world now seemingly fixed in the comics? Him being as he is makes sense; though he should have absolutely been closer to his original characterization in Forces and up until the end of the Metal Virus arc. Though speaking of his fixed future, it would be nice to experience it, especially in a game. I also think he really deserves his own game, and would love if they made it play similarly to something like Gravity Rush.
Personally I prefer it when Silver's a bit of a dork. It makes sense for the hedgehog who grew up with presumably nobody around, and it makes him more different from Shadow and Sonic. It gives him the more of the young and naïve characterisation. Don't get me wrong, I like a serious asshole Silver, but I wouldn't really like it if he acted like that all the time. Him being more dorky when he's comfortable and around friends but serious when the situation calls for it is how I'd like my Silver characterisation to go. That's why I don't really see why so many people have a problem with IDW Silver. He's both. He doesn't act like a complete dork during arcs like the metal virus or just in general fights. I feel like alot of people just don't get IDW Silver.
I used to really like Silver, but when I look at his existence in Sonic's universe at least in the games, he's...kinda underwhelming. I like parts of him in 06 like the stuff with Amy and Shadow but the main relationship he's supposed to have with Blaze is super uninteresting. They don't feel like friends, they feel like co-workers who don't dislike one another. Then there's Rivals where he's just not super interesting but neither is any character in those games except maybe Shadow and Forces and the IDW comics that keep repeating the same plot with him. His future's in ruin so time to go back in time but then he has to come back again, and again and dude you spend so much time in the past you might as well stay there. Also, how does he time travel. He couldn't in 06 at least not by himself so what's he doing. Rambling aside, I don't hate Silver but over time it's less and less cause of his character and more because of his powerset and his awesome boss fight in Generations.
I can acknowledge Silvers' character, but i like it. I can actually see him becoming like this under the right circumstances. I just feel like it kinda came out of left field. Other than that I cool with it.
I enjoy both iterations of the character, though I agree that he's strayed quite a bit from who he originally was. Both are optimistic, but one proves it by never giving up while the other proves it by being kind. It's like you said: Silver had the intention to make things right and dish out justice. Sometimes thay meant stepping on people's toes or stumbling through a question of morality until things were made right. The "cinnamon roll" Silver doesn’t really deal with problems like that. His are more personal. He's awkward and well-meaning, and (in IDW) is now aimless thanks to a corrected future. He's searching for his place in the world. Though they share similar roles, their characters are headed in different directions.
I believe he's been a adorable sweet dork the whole time. It just depends if hes got things to do or he just gets to enjoy hanging out with people, which is a treat for him.
I'm a bit partial to the "Cinnamon Roll" Silver, mostly because I feel like I can relate to that interpterion of him, and also have fond memories of finding the IDW Sonic comics at my local library and absolutely loving them. So, here's one of the main reasons why I think people really like this interpretation: Many of traits Silver shows in the IDW comics are similar to those of people who are neurodiverse. I'm not gonna dig too deep into stuff because I'm lazy and sleep deprived, but in the IDW comics there are multiple moments where Silver doesn't properly understand social cues, and other stuff too. For a long time, people who were neurodiverse weren't really portrayed in a good light, or just not shown at all, and as someone who is neurodiverse and has many neurodiverse friends, I often notice that we tend to be really drawn to characters in media who share traits with us. (I'm not speaking for all neurodiverse people, this is just something me and many of my neurodiverse friends have in common.) Fun fact: A pretty sizeable chunk of sonic fans are neurodiverse, here are a few reasons why neurodiverse kids might be attracted to the series and have a lifelong obsession with it that I found on my local reddit: 1. Everybody can be categorized by color 2. Everybody can be categorized by Speed/Fly/Power typing 3. Everybody can be categorized into “teams”, either canon teams or fanon like Silver/Blaze 4. Everybody has expressive faces that young neurodivergent kids can latch onto 5. Many of the main characters display neurodivergent traits, I mean, Sonic's main catchphrase is LITERALLY "Gotta go fast!" and he physically cannot STAND waiting around. so many of those fans probably feel like they can relate to this interpretation of Silver. HES JUST LIKE ME FRFR
I believe that if we’re getting a “Year of Shadow The Hedgehog”. I mean come on, the guy got his own video game and hasn’t been playable in awhile, I don’t really count forces since he felt like a sonic reskin and that was it. At least now he’s being playable again but also being done right, which tells me sega and sonic team are taking the risks and seeing how it plays out. So I believe that one day somewhere down the line, we will get a “Year of Silver” who knows they may remake or remaster 06 or even better give the guy his own video game. I would love to play a silver the hedgehog game that takes place in the future and how he overcomes whatever obstacles he faces.
I absolutely love tte thumbnail with Silver the cinnamon roll holding a cinnamon roll. Anyways i think a merger of the two would be the ideal option having him being less adorkable and Cute and a bit more stooc could work better then leanig to much in one or the other direction
The Cinnamon roll from the future Edit: I agree with you on that he’s a great character and that he is meant to be optimistic despite the circumstances. Silver to me is meant to be the stoic but softhearted, he’s someone that’s strong and willing to fight for his future and doing what he needs to do it but he can be kind and humble and appreciate the things around him. Silver being a cinnamon roll isn’t all bad but I understand where it could cause some issues.
I read a lot of sonic comics, lore ect ect, but I can agree I love sonic 06 silver his ruthlessness his naivety, loneliness, anxiety, seriousness all of it, and his relatability. but I also do like the newer archie style of him bc he acts like the kids he could have been if his future was not in ruins, if there were a nice balance between the two having sonic 06 silver but with more sincerity to him, cheerfulness as the kid he is being 14 but still having the edge to him that makes sonic 06 silver well SILVER id think id stick around a lot longer considering he is my favorite character.
I understand what Sonicsta means, but I think that Silver changed his behavior due to the things he went through, as this ends up affecting his mindset, as well as Trunks himself, for example, who in DBZ was more serious and reserved, but in Super is calmer due to his future being secure even with some problems and I personally don't see a problem with him being calmer and more realistic because I think he has a good time at IDW, the problem is that as they don't work much with Silver, kinda that just leave him as the charismatic guy who tries to be nice and help everyone, I feel a little down because of that because I feel like they could use a lot more of the character not only because he is one of the most powerful but also because of him in theory being one of the most mature due to his history, of course he has some moments like that but this is a bit overshadowed by trying to portray him as the "optimistic nice guy" since Silver has a balance between both sides that can work, so much so that I saw a comment saying that Silver could act like Blast in the One Punch Man manga, a guy who is mute because he has experience with serious situations and knows how to deal with these situations but who at the same time knows how to relax and interact in a cool way with others without seeming too off and still gives off a vibe of confidence
The cinnamon roll thing, I belive that is just how silver acts around his friends, because in the same IDW comics, during the Metal Virus arc, he acted like his old self for the mayority of the time.
I like his new interpretation, Silver has stated to be kind of a naive and pure-hearted character aside from his serious side, and I think this was just the writers expanding upon it. It's kind of a headcanon, because while it may not have been directly implied, it's something that can make people say "he would totally act like this." But even then, that's never taken away from his main traits, he's only acted like that in IDW during the more chill and laid-back settings, because he has been serious and determined when he needs to be. So I think people saying that's his cinnamon roll side is all we see of him is either not true or it has something to do with IDW's stories in general.
I like 06 silver but i do have problems with how expressionless the character models were in that game. Thats also probably why i like idw silver, the fact that he's so expressive and full of personality is just something people like to see. And in the fact that silver's backstory is kinda depressing since the future may be safe, but its still pretty destroyed and his only friend is gone. Thats why seeing silver fully commit to the little brother role in the comic is nice, just seeing a silver that could never really happen in the game timeline.
I like him as a sassy dork tbh. With how he was written in 06 it had potential because we saw that although he took saving the world very seriously, when there was no immediate threat he had the kind of sass and snark of a teenage boy. I don't mind cinnamon roll Silver because it shows his optimism and him being a symbol of hope, but I also don't like how they push it to a point where he's just overly-naive or rendered useless. I like him having a bit of edge to him instead of JUST being adorkable™. I think he was adorable enough when he was first introduced due to his dorky side, no need to just solely focus on that being his one defining feature. Basically Sega needs to give him a well written game of his own to really establish his character as more than just the "weaker than Sonic and Shadow" male hedgehog character because it's kind of disappointing at how underutilized he's been due to 06's failure.
I feel like silver should have a blend in my opinion. I really do like silver cheeriness in 06 it Plays well with his optimism and he can still cheeky and be quite disrespectful like having friendly banter with his friends. Although when silver gets serious or is in a serious situation that's when a more 06 ya know less dorky silver shows because hes taking things really serious. Kind of like a loose cannon, he may not seem intimidating when approaching new foes at first but when silver isn't playing any games a force to be reckoned with
he needs his own game and something like frontiers would be perfect cause it makes no sense for sonic to be floating around enemies shooting air but it makes total sense for silver, if you replaced sonic with silver in frontiers the combat would fit a ton lol. am I the only one who noticed it?
I think that comic silver is the best 06 silver just has no identifiable personality traits when its time for action silver is serious but I don't know I don't particularly care for who a character was especially if its a downgrade.
I think that the same thing that happened to the personalities of the other characters when the games got new writters happened to Silver. Sonic not being as adventurously serious as he previously was, Shadow being turned into an edgeloard who can't have any friends, Knuckles acting like a character who barely has a brain, and Tails being shown as a total coward. They all got messed up even though they shouldn't have been. A fix up for Silver could happen because those characters did seem to be going back to what they should be in Sonic Frontiers, and they may be trying to bring back the less edgy and better written version of Shadow because it was said that his story in the upcoming Generations remaster game will have be him journeying through his past while confronting painful memories, and facing familiar foes to save the world and prove why he's known as the Ultimate Life Form. We could also see the better version of him in the third movie too. The Sonic characters who have been misunderstood for a lot of years each seem to be getting fixed up, and a fix up for Silver could hopefully be coming next. Last summer he became one of my favorite Sonic characters besides Sonic and Shadow, so I want him to be behaving better in the games and be a character who plays a big role in a certain amount of future ones like he did in 06 and be playable too, instead of only being playable in some mobile ones and some spin-offs then rarely making appearences in the cutscenes of mainline ones! This current problem about him has to come to an end and I hope that that happens soon!
Tbf for IDW, there is one issue from IDW where the story devel into Silver being kinda depressed since he felt like since everything is peaceful, what use is he now? It was kinda interesting but then they didn't go far with that story. Blaze help with Silver's pain n grow a garden n its just back to Silver being a goofy ball. I get why Silver is a dorky cuz his future is peaceful, but I kinda wish that wasn't all of his personality. It hard to take him seriously when that's all the writers do with him. He's basically like DBS Trunks when itc comes it personality. Ya ik Sonic basically takes inspiration from DB, but at least Sonic, Shadow, and Knuxs have different traits from their DB counterparts. Silver needs his own unique trait from Trunks n I think what u said about 06 Silver having a snarky attitude definitely fixes this issue. Giving Silver a little backbone towards his friends could have made him cooler n I probably would have taken him seriously imo. U can still have goofy ball characters while still taken seriously. Best example, Knuxs. Knuxs still have some goofy moments with Sonic messing around with him (And movie version where he's basically Draxx from Guardians of the Galaxy), but he also got a dark past with him being the last of his race n being the solo guardian of the master emerald. I don't even personally like Knuxs like that (Unless its Movie version) but at least with him, there moments where I could taken him seriously and I could think of one moment where i thought he was a badass for doing that moment. Like one, Knuxs literally punching Super Sonic with one punch. Silver on the other hand, drawing a blank tbh. I wish Silver got his own game cuz that would be his chance to get his own shine n the story could take him seriously once the writers gives him a badass moment like how SA2 n 06 done with Shadow or Adventure, Unleashed, Black Knight, n Froniters done with Sonic. Who knows, maybe once the year of Shadow is over, maybe Sega/Sonic Team might take a risk n redeem Silver. Sega is doing risk again by relieving their old ips that aren't widely known by the public and having more faith in their mascot, so maybe there could be a chance Silver gets his redemption and the writers could him a dorky character but also a badass character that folks can take him seriously (But this time actually love or appreciate Silver instead of taking him as a meme like 06 with the curse its no use line). Plus this could be the chance that we get a good look at his homeworld. There some many new possibilities that Sonic Team could do with Silver like improving his gameplay, Silver getting new friends (Seriously since he's future is peaceful, u think bro would hang in his own timeline n have friends there instead of solely coming back to Sonic's timeline), and new villains that could give a serious challenge to Silver n make him a badass
I think Silver’s IDW personality distinguishes him from Sonic and Shadow in a way the old version didn’t pull off. Having him being edgier and standoffish would just make him a knock-off shadow and having him be cool and witty would make him too much like Sonic. Having him be more naive and dorky not only plays into him being younger than the other two but it also gives him his own identity that stands out from the rest of the cast
I wholeheartedly agree. I just don't like how they keep nerfing him and making him seem so inexperienced in the new comics. Like, how he needs to fully concentrate only to hold more than a few things with his psychokinesis. Idk, it kinda adds on to this "i'm so naïve and don't know what i'm doing" cinnamon-roll persona IDW is pushing. The Infinite fight in Forces was atrocious, too, makes me wonder if that's the same character on the Generations Rival Battle. I love this character and i miss old Silver. The snarky, serious, boy-scout Silver who always set to do right and valued hope, justice and the very few he considered "friends".
Honestly I'm alright if Silver has usually tone down to this more "cute-like" thing I've seen recently due to what I've seen in IDW or whatever the Fandom describes him as, I've also seen people make Sonic seem the same or similar way as Silver as well, but at least they both have their cool moments which is alright by me. Whenever I try to write a version of Sonic who's personality was completely different from the original then I would have a difficult time doing that because who knows? Maybe I'm just too used to whatever Sonic was like back in like... The older Canon games from maybe adventure 1 to colors(ish) •-•
his more goofy self in IDW i think makes him stand out more against sonic and shadow. Besides, we cant say him being like that contradicts his character in 06, we never really see Silver get a chance to breath in that game, he's always working towards stopping the end of the world, that will change people from how they usually might act. You take away the existential threat, what, should Silver just have the characterization of just standing there instead? Or be Shadow Lite?
It´s very hard for me to say if Silver has changed or not because I see so much unused potential in him. The IDW comics at least try to do more with him. I hope one day in a future Sonic gamme, Silver will have a bigger role, which put him back on the scrren again. Maybe even in Sonic X Shaow Generations. An own solo game like Shadow has, would be awesome. But I´m afraid this will stay an unfulfilled wish.
To be honest this silver is done right because the "Silver" we know longer exist since his past and Memories had been changed after 06, so to say that what made him the way he was before is the tragic and Destroyed World his was born and growp up having to face that harsh reality but the one we know now came from a Good Future, kinda like Future Trunks and Kid Trunks, yes they are the same character but their experiences on life changed each One.
Realism is pretty much an ideal anyway. Being a realist would mean being totally unbiased for the good or the bad which happens very rarely. It can't take account for expectations because it's just being factual. Or actually, it can but that would mean taking all the optimistic and all the pessimistic potential outcomes into account, acknowledging the positive and the negative. That's why in reality, people tend more to be an optimist + a realist or a pessimist + a realist because they try to tend to realism in the end.
silver died for me. i liked him cuz he was cool but then i met shadow and shadow took the cake since hes cool lmao but i see a lot of me in him so thats a reason i like him but silver is just a npc in this franchise like he isnt important anymore and its sad since silver is the third super hedgehog meaning that he should be like the 3rd most important character but they do shadow better than silver and ig just wait for sonic movie 4 or 5 to get a silver arc.
The whole "silver is an adorkable cinnamon roll" narrative is something that I find a bit frustrating (at the very least the way it's done in the idw comics) because silver is supposed to be from an apocalyptic future where survival is a constant struggle both from external threats and also lack of resources and that environment is not conducive at best at worst that behavior could prove fatal. Additionally I think Silver's Naivete is greatly exaggerated to a general naivete of almost everything rather a more specific naivete on the morals of destroying one life to save the world.
I don't like the change but I think it make sence, he changed from 06 because Iblis was destroyed in the past, what I'm saying is somone who lived in a destroyed world is different from somone who hasn't even if they are the same person/ has the same personality. (I could be wrong I'm not a big sonic fan😅)
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind silver being a sweetheart from time to time. However that shouldn't be his full personality. Him being a cocky, snarky, overconfident little gremlin was what made him so funny while still having that sweetside to him. It's gotta be 50/50 ya know? Like even it out. They're slowly figuring that out but not quite there yet currently
Isn’t that like 90% of the cast, in fact the only popular characters outside the fan base are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Shadow and Rouge ( except only because of her design )
Segas fault because Sonic 06 flopped, Silver could've been the focus of a Sonic Adventure 3 but that didn't happen. Some fans just try to pretend 06 was because it had Adventure vibes but the title itself was misleading.
Yeah no Silver is not Silver anymore to me he was at his best in the rivals games. He would do anything to get the job done and he didn't like wasting time. This guy right here had attitude in the rivals games something that made him stand out and boi did he stand out. He would disrespect anyone who was in his way and would fight anyone and everyone, he'd do anything to protect his future, however anyone on his side wouldnt have to face his wrath and he was pretty trusting considering how quickly he allowed Espio's help. These we're all character traits that made Silver so interesting to me like my second favorite in both Rivals games and seeing him being um over pure I suppose like really REALLY kind is kinda weird. I feel it destroys the character a bit. He no longer has the backbone I've grown to love in Rivals. He can be optimistic I love that about him it ties in with how he doesn't allow himself to give up, but he shouldn't be so soft as he does in idw is what I'm saying that feels kind of wrong.
IMO, PERSONALLY, FROM MY STANDPOINT, I think ppl saying they like IDW/cinnamon roll Silver is completely missing the point. Liking that characterization *does not mean* that should be Silver's characterization. I got into the fandom in 2012, at that time mainstream opinion was that Silver sounded so whimpy & was mocked by making false impressions (fanart) of him being pathetic and cutesy (not manly, as stupid as it sounds). But due to that being overboard, a lot of fans who weren't diehard lore masters would just adapt to this impression of Silver, and actually believed & started liking this version of Silver unironically. I used to dislike Silver a lot for this *fan* interpretation until I looked at the games throughly and understood that he was *not* the character ppl were spreading around. I was baffled with how huge of an influence those mockery did to a whole fanbase, to the point where ppl actually adapted to something that was *not* what Silver is from the beginning. Sure, you can say there were *some* traits that could fit in the "cinnamon roll" category, but all traits of personalities comes in all kinds of spectrums, you cannot only see one trait and ignore the other, just so you could *pretend* that Silver fits into the type of characters you enjoy. Its nice that ppl enjoy a cinnamon roll, but maybe also understand that there are other ppl who are tired of seeing a version of Silver that deviates from the early games' portrayal of Silver, that completely disregarded many traits Silver also carries with him initially. Or in other words, some ppl believe that characters should change for the "better" to cater to the audience's preferences, some believe that characters should stay true to their settings. And the former audience will *always* have the potential to destroy what the latter has, and that has already happened with Silver. The latter are speaking up, because the former successfully changed Silver (especially in official media) into something they are no longer familiar with. Maybe it is hard to accept certain distasteful traits/flaws from Silver, but it does not mean stripping those away or amplifying likable traits would be wise either. Character personalities are like chemistry, too much or too little of certain elements and you get a completely different thing.
I definitely do like Silver being more naive and optimistic in the comics, but it's not even to a realistic extent. He's more comfortable trusting people, but they've made him TOO trusting. It's a good direction, but it's too much of it.
Tbh, I never liked Sonic Rivals because all the character dialogue is pretty much "f*ck you, fight me" I liked Silver being nice to chao though because he's definitely someone who would cherish nature and innocent life. I don't like when people argue that he needs to be dark and dreary when we already have Shadow-and Sega is doing a horrible job with him already. Personally I like the soft side of Silver but I also like when he is quick to deal justice while struggling with the moral questions of whether the ends justify the means. In the end he is someone who wants to do good, but sometimes that takes him down a morally grey path. He toes the line between Sonic amd Shadow in some ways and I like him having a polarized personality in that way where he can be very bright and optimistic but also very dark and judgmental. I actually liked the part in IDW where he attacks Mimic/Duo because it shows how menacing he can be towards those he considers a threat. I want to see more of that in his future as a character because it is so interesting to me. He's generally a morally good character but he would cross lines that Sonic wouldn't because of his connection to the future. Sonic is able to keep lines uncrossed because he is not burdened with knowledge of the future like Silver.
IMO Silver has been basically the same character, I have no problems with the IDW comics portrayal so far. Forces is a game full of errors of all kinds and I don't take it seriously.
I despise snarky (or what I'd say: douchebag) Silver as him stealing or calling people names feels like a betrayal of what he is at his core. I like cinnamon roll Silver but think people go overboard with it and would fit him better if it was done in moderation, because I think he does kind of show he can be like that in 06 its just that he's on a mission and questioning his entire morality so it's not gonna be very apparent.
Silver had a little bit of an ass side in the late 2000s that I just didn’t like. So I’m happy we have a more sweet Silver instead. Just for that alone.

My headcanon is, now that silvers timeline is safe hes much more optimistic and kind. Just like how present trunks is in superhero compared to future trunks in z(which are around the same age)
Believe it or not, this is actually a fact.
He saved his ruined future in Sonic Rivals 2, and confirmed it was saved in Sonic Colors DS.
I had the same headcanon as well. I kinda formulated that mini theory by myself when comparing Silver from the Archie Comics to the one from the IDW.
@@Nothavinit00 ik he saved the timeline, I was saying his attitude changes because of it.
Wait, is Silver's future good? Because other than sports the only reason he ever comes back in time is to save the future like the Rivals games or Forces.
@@castform7his future is good but every now and then something happens, the future is again bad and Silver needs to come back to help
The last time was when the metal virus destroyed all life on the planet and currently in IDW Silver is back on the past to visit his friends (so there is no world ending catastrophe in sight, he is just spending time with sonic and Blaze)
I think he always was a cinnamon roll. Because I tend to define that as a naive and likable character, whose kindhearted.
Not necessarily adorkable
This !!
Watch Sonic Theory's video titled: 'Why Silver is Perfectly Flawed'
Silver's character is a lot more complex and isn't as simple as him being a naive justice warrior. I feel Silver will resonate more with adults rather than Kids when they introduce him in the live action.
It’s crazy we need a game with silver with his IDW rewrite with a little bit of 06
I dont mind the comic versions of Silver, but the 06 version is definitely my favorite.
IDW Silver is a pathetic loser who needs to be babysat all the time
agreed here. The characterizations dont necessarily contradict eachother when the one we see in IDW is one who actually got a chance to breath and not be in overdrive mode 24/7 like in 06 and I guess Forces (but we can all agree he was written terribly there).
The cinnamon roll holding a literal cinnamon roll is so perfect😭
I much prefer the snarky and slight asshole Silver, helps him stand out against the other hedgehogs
How, Sonic is full of snark and shadow is an asshole, if something Silver being more adorkable makes him pretty distinct
@@carso1500 Being adorkable is already Amy's thing. Silver used to be a dick and it was great.
This, speak your faxx man we need to bring back his Shitty Personality of him, IDW Silver is like drooling baby
How though Sonic is snarky
And especially modern shadow does the slight asshole
That makes him blend in more?😊
Shadow has been an asshole since Sonic X lol
Silver is such an underrated character with so much potential. Sega/Sonic Team really needs to give him another chance.
He could've been the focus of Sonic Adventure 3 as Shadow was to Adventure 2 but nope Sega screwed it up.
Silver has always been one of my favourites since 06. I've always thought that his dorky side was the way he was when there was no immediate threat so he wasn't on guard, but when there is danger he's all business. lol
Given the future he came from I can't imagine he had much time to 'chill'.
Silver being a cinnamonroll is good in a way, it proves that his hopeful nature is strong and he will wouldn't mind seeing a lot of things for how good they are,
HOWEVER
it's getting pushed a lot, you see his hopeful nature can make him both naive and unyeilding, the unyeilding part is where he came from someone who'll not fall into dispair and will fight t'ill his last breath, that notion has lost to the naive part lately.
Expected Sonic: Cool, snarky badass
Expected Shadow: Quiet, pensive, yet charismatic badass
Expected Silver: ACTUAL optimist, but sort of naive badass
...We saw what reality gave us.
I know I’m kinda late, but here’s my thoughts on this:
I don’t think 06 silver and IDW silver are completely different characters, but instead how different the situations are.
(I also think that the reason silver was acting the way he was in forces was that because both sonic and shadow were absent (more confident, experienced, and a leader-like characters for sonic), silver felt like he needed to act more like a leader (sonic) due to the fact that he was probably the most powerful character among the group at the time, despite being more of a follower than a leader type of character, so that others could potentially feel more at ease if he acted more like sonic)
This is obviously just my opinion, and feel free to disagree or correct me if I said any false info
I love silver, he’s my favorite character, but I really don’t like his new goofy characterization
If I had a nickel for every time I've seen a thumbnail with Silver the Hedgehog holding edible sustenance today, I'd have two nickels... which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Underrated hero
Sonic is the optimistic hedgehog 🦔
Shadow is the pessimistic hedgehog that does care about others 🦔
Silver is supposed to be the realist hedgehog 🦔
And what type of hedgehog Amy should be?
@@6t76t Huh, haven't thought about it. Maybe the Motivational hedgehog 🦔
Silver is an idealist
That's Segas fault, he could've been the focus of a Sonic Adventure 3, no Elise etc.
I miss 06 Silver. Such an inspiring and thought-provoking character.
I hope the movies will give him a chance in the spotlight again
SEGA, Critics and 2010s writers happened.
when I was watching the video I started smelling a bit of cinamon roll out of nowhere🤔
I understand the concept of a Silver game based on Gravity Rush, but... Kat's powers are based on gravity manipulation, Silver's are psychokinesis.
@@dragondelsur5156 so scarlet nexus?
@@magicmoon6375 I never played that game, but kinda.
A true optimistic Silver would have a cup overflowing with water.
So, here's one of the main reasons why I think people really like this interpretation:
Many of traits Silver shows in the IDW comics are similar to those of people who are neurodiverse. (I'm not speaking for all neurodiverse people, this is just something me and many of my neurodiverse friends have in common.)
Fun fact: A pretty sizeable chunk of sonic fans are neurodiverse, here are a few reasons why neurodiverse kids might be attracted to the series and have a lifelong obsession with it that I found on my local reddit:
1. Everybody can be categorized by color
2. Everybody can be categorized by Speed/Fly/Power typing
3. Everybody can be categorized into “teams”, either canon teams or fanon like Silver/Blaze
4. Everybody has expressive faces that young neurodivergent kids can latch onto
The Cinnamon roll from the future
Edit: I agree with you on that he’s a great character and that he is meant to be optimistic despite the circumstances.
I like silver a lot
I feel like the reason why silver is underused because of the failure of sonic 06
IDW dose almost all surface lever characterization.
I do not know, but I really wish Silver returned majorly again.

Silver sort of remembers 06.
They are just (taking this term from Sonic.exe Spirits of H*** Round 2) memory fragments.
Yo, you should do a video on fast-paced platforms that are very similar to sonic on the PS five or Xbox
his more goofy self in IDW i think makes him stand out more against sonic and shadow.
Come on Silver is my sister favourite
Realism is pretty much an ideal anyway. Being a realist would mean being totally unbiased for the good or the bad which happens very rarely. It can't take account for expectations because it's just being factual. Or actually, it can but that would mean taking all the optimistic and all the pessimistic potential outcomes into account, acknowledging the positive and the negative. That's why in reality, people tend more to be an optimist + a realist or a pessimist + a realist because they try to tend to realism in the end.
It’s to hard to tell it’s like sonic personality in game and in prime
I think both silvers should fuse so he can remind me of sonic and amy
silver died for me. i liked him cuz he was cool but then i met shadow and shadow took the cake since hes cool lmao but i see a lot of me in him so thats a reason i like him but silver is just a npc in this franchise like he isnt important anymore and its sad since silver is the third super hedgehog meaning that he should be like the 3rd most important character but they do shadow better than silver and ig just wait for sonic movie 4 or 5 to get a silver arc.
Idw turned Silver into an eboy and both reddit and twitter are eating it up
-eboy, aka toon link
The whole "silver is an adorkable cinnamon roll" narrative is something that I find a bit frustrating (at the very least the way it's done in the idw comics) because silver is supposed to be from an apocalyptic future where survival is a constant struggle both from external threats and also lack of resources and that environment is not conducive at best at worst that behavior could prove fatal. Additionally I think Silver's Naivete is greatly exaggerated to a general naivete of almost everything rather a more specific naivete on the morals of destroying one life to save the world.
bro, we need more skits
Maybe people liked it better because a cinnamon roll contrasts Shadow and Sonic to make a 3 hedgehog thing? But to me he still doesn't feel part of it
Relaxed guy he is hanging out with blaze
I don't like the change but I think it make sence, he changed from 06 because Iblis was destroyed in the past, what I'm saying is somone who lived in a destroyed world is different from somone who hasn't even if they are the same person/ has the same personality. (I could be wrong I'm not a big sonic fan😅)
Well i do like his "cinnamon roll" self better tbh
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind silver being a sweetheart from time to time. However that shouldn't be his full personality. Him being a cocky, snarky, overconfident little gremlin was what made him so funny while still having that sweetside to him. It's gotta be 50/50 ya know? Like even it out. They're slowly figuring that out but not quite there yet currently
The newgens think silver has anxiety bc of the comics🤦🏾♂️
Is that really on new fans,it's a writing thing
He just isnt popular outside of the fanbase
Isn’t that like 90% of the cast, in fact the only popular characters outside the fan base are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Shadow and Rouge ( except only because of her design )
@@iceman92211 Even that's a question
@@TheSultan1470 it’s not really a question it’s a fact.
@@iceman92211 I was extending it to those characters, that's the question. If even those are well known.
Segas fault because Sonic 06 flopped, Silver could've been the focus of a Sonic Adventure 3 but that didn't happen. Some fans just try to pretend 06 was because it had Adventure vibes but the title itself was misleading.
IDW Silver ruins Silver more than sonic 06
Disagree, I like how he is in the IDW comics better. He has way more personality
To have that Silver back again would make some pretty epically interesting moments in future stories
Cinnamon Roll
So cuz he isn’t a hero with ultimate confidence and is more relatable in the comics he’s bad?
He never had “ultimate confidence” in the games, he was just better written
I don’t really have much to say in terms of Silver’s character and writing. I thought it was good in Sonic 06. And I think it’s good in the comics.
Yea it’s just a kid friendly dragon, Ball, Z
I prefer forces silver over idw silver
it’s okay to say you think something is bad bro lol
I definitely do like Silver being more naive and optimistic in the comics, but it's not even to a realistic extent. He's more comfortable trusting people, but they've made him TOO trusting. It's a good direction, but it's too much of it.
Silver is goat.He stronger than Sonic
Depends but I agree I guess
Tbh, I never liked Sonic Rivals because all the character dialogue is pretty much "f*ck you, fight me"
I liked Silver being nice to chao though because he's definitely someone who would cherish nature and innocent life.
It’s no use!
IDW SILVER ON TOP!
