Quick question I have the same PSVita slim , my screws are stripped , is their a method I can use to remove the back plate still ? Because I’m close to just ordering another PSVita
Up up up you go, this needs to be brought to full attention as it is incredibly easy to break that ribbon cable. As well as being the hardest thing to put back.
I tried fixing my PSP the other day and it's really as easy as it looks (Although the screws suck) I never would've tried without this channel Thanks to TRF for making me repair my stuff
I get super nervous just by watching u do it because I know I'd be SO lost! I'm glad things work out for you, and I wish I could do the same thing. I truly admire this type of hand work :)
Hey, very important stuff you missed! Be careful disassembling PSV, as you require to detach a cable from the back touchpad and the main board! It doesn't appear at the video, so be careful!
The Vita is my favorite handheld console ever. I like it more than the 3DS or anything else. You just need to homebrew it and a whole universe of possibilities opens up. It's great for emulation, you can play every PSP and PS1 game without any problem and the community is awesome as well (other than that of the Switch). They ported GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas, which actually released yesterday. It's incredible.
The console fix I did that I was most proud of was a busted PSP I found in the grass out front of my house. It was damp with dew and had quite a few issues. I opened it up, cleaned it out, put everything together, treated it like I was a surgeon and was ultimately able to get it to boot and play games. I used it for a time until I sold it to buy a girl I liked concert tickets. She turned the concert down just after the sale was made but that was alright, it just wasn't meant to be. I always wondered about buying another PSP but there's really no point in it anymore as they're extremely outdated.
Good job (and catch on the ribbon connector when you saw it wasn't the joystick)! I initially was telling myself "He's had some of these already, why is he acting like it's new to him?" And then I realized they were the original so-called phat launch versions. I have one of these slim ones myself, paid $68 USD. Works fine, did the mod thing. It's sitting in a pouch by my bed, I never seem to have time to actually play anything (I have three kids and all the responsibilities that go with that). Nice vid like always!
I really wish I was mechanically/eletronically inclined like you. You make it looks so effortless. I just can't do this stuff but would love if I could.
glad to see the original joystick is still usable.

Considering you have never done that before you did an amazing job! I probably would stop at taking the back off before I panicked and put it back on! Well done! I don't know. You say the PS Vita is expensive, but for what it is I don't think so. Especially if you have an Henkaku one. I just got one today. The OLED model (3g), fully working for £70 with a charger, 2 games, a case and an 8gb memory card. Looks immaculate on screen. And it is jailbroken, which I don't think is bad. Looking forward to receiving it. This will be my third. Both my others are exactly the same and cost about the same, but did not come with any games or a charger, but the charger I already had and £2 for the proprietary cable.
I’ve wanted a vita for years but never wanted to spend the $135 for a used one. This encouraged me to go out and find a broken one and fix it myself! Thanks! Great vid.

I prefer the original 1000 model but this is still amazing to watch. I love seeing these get the love they deserve. As someone who has 5 vitas I can’t say enough. Lol
Awesome video bud! And well done for a 1st tear down, fir the scratches on the back ,get some meguairs scratch X, and gently apply using a microfiber cloth..should get rid rid of them if they are not too deep
I just picked up a Vita 1000 and a 2000 for a total price of £123.73! I couldn't refuse! I've now got to fix the slims X button. I was going to just replace the PCB board, now I'll look at the ribbon cable before ordering anything.
I accidentally ruined my left analog stick when I dropped my system on the floor and it bounced into an inch of water. After being repaired a few weeks later, it still works perfectly two years later. I'm glad that my brother fixes game systems, computers, tVs and phones for himself.
What happened to the rear touchpad ribbon, it's completely gone!?!? Given I can only think of a handful of games that actually require the rear touchpad.
For those who want to change the back. I would recommend getting replacement shell from Aliexpress. It's not the same quality but it's good. That being said, you need use heat gun on the back touch pad. Just heat it up and replace it in the new shell. No need to waist money on the pre glued ones. I fixed my shell and it's great. Main issue with PS Vita 2000s are the back. They get the most scratches. That being said, if anyone knows on eBay or Aliexpress where can i get a cheap replacement speaker let me know. One of them is almost silent.
Elliot a couple of suggestions.1) use the original stick, is way better. 2) the rear touchpad will not work, I don't see the ribbon cable, at all. Check that out.
You can polish the scratches almost completely away with Quixx. I did that a few times. The same applies to the shiny part of the old PS4 and PS3. But dont use polish on the screen. If you do that the scratches break the light like a prism and look even worse.
After owning both a Phat and Slim my biggest complaint about the slim is the display. So much so that i still own my phat. Good job on repairing it though looks really good. Shame that sony never really support our little boi and that the switch is heralded as the only handheld of its kind. Which little know fact the Vita was originally planned to connect to a TV. Look up old dev kits of it and youll see a mini HDMI port on it. The PSTV uses the same firmware as the Vita just having the HDMI out flag enabled.
@Mister Donkey noice. You can get new digitizers for the phat psvita and a new backplate to make it look like new. But the screen is soooo nice looking. Once you go to oled the only panel that can even remotely satisfy your eyes are IPS
You may want to swap to using contact cleaner rather than IPA for analog sticks and other moving parts as it both of them will clean, but the contact cleaner leaves a slight lubricant inside which is better for longevity, just a thought.
It's incredible how many people dump the Vita with some minor hardware issues. I got my OG Vita from a kid who reported to me it was Ok, but it a problem with the right analog. I changed it and then it was now again.
The Sony portables are incredibly repairable, modular boards and all, the Vita has separate button boards on both of it's hardware revisions, the PSPs have non-glued LCDs (dunno the PSP Go tho), a bunch of the flat cables are not soldered and cheap to replace, and rarely short annoying to route flex cables (looking at you DS and 3DS lineup!). The only thing I hate on the OLED PS Vita is how hard it is to find analog sticks for replacement, when I do find they are pretty expensive, tho thankfully they don't have any drift issues anyway, from what I've seen they're different from the LCD Vita but I hope I'm wrong, the LCD Vita sticks are a lot cheaper and more common.
I so miss my PS Vita. It was stolen right before covid along with $10k worth of recording equipment, merch, and donations for my cancer charity after a fundraiser show. I was absolutely gutted

You can get not perfect, but better replacement sticks if you look hard enough, the rubber is never as good as the originals, but its better than the weird one you bought which like you said doesnt feel very good at all. I've had to replace my sticks twice now in my white slim vita..something about the slim sticks just has them go faulty where as the originals doesnt.
