      I’ve only made cherry but I can imagine blackberry (or even razzleberry) I can’t wait to try apple. Not sure how to go about it though. Maybe I’ll cut a slice in two right before baking.

    If you guys haven’t made the pie crust, what are you waiting for? Chop chop. It is Amazing!!! Butter is awesome, lard is even better if that’s possible if your not as into a butter crust. This crust is so flakey and will get you 5 stars every time. Mrs. Melissa grandma knew what she was doing that’s for sure

    With my broken heel in between uploading my videos I binge watch homesteading channels. My daughter will love these. Great channel thanks.

    I make these too! But I use a pizza cutter and cut mine in rectangles so they are shaped more like a store bought pop tart. My family loves them, especially when I use my homemade jams and jellies in them.

    very nice, Miss Melissa - i think I'll try this with apple filling with a little cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top.

    Your pie crust recipe is seriously the best I’ve ever had. Every time I make pies or hand pies and others eat they they rave over them and tell me to open a bakery. Haha! Thank you so much for all you do to share the ways of old!!!

    These are beautiful! Also looks so much easier than trying to handle and fold over a larger dough disk, which is what I've done the only couple of times I've done anything like this. Our family loves a savory filling, like leftover stew or thickened up chicken soup. They'll love me for putting fruit in there, I've never given them that treat before! Totally worth every calorie 😋

    These are the absolute best!! I bring them into work and they disappear immediately. I made some with the help of my 9 year old granddaughter and she ate 2 of them, then her dad came into the house and he said from now on no birthday cakes just the hand pies.

    I’m curious about freezing. I do plan to freeze mine, but how do I warm them up? Do I pop them in the toaster frozen, or thaw first. Can I use an air fryer? Thanks a bunch.

    made some of your blueberry lime jam - all the jars sealed great, the jam tastes..."dare I say, sublime?" ;) I had a lot of blueberries, so I simmered for over an hour, and still probably not as fully set as it should have been - looks like that will need to be developed with some experience. I thought I had the sheet test ok, but maybe not.

    This looks amazing! Kind of reminds me of the crustable PB&J sandwiches I’ve seen in the freezer section. Do you know if peanut butter would bake well in them with the jam or jelly? I’m hoping this would be a great picnic lunch option for my toddlers when we are on trips or hiking. Thanks!

    What a fun recipe. I've got to give it a try. I have one question about your wonderful videos. Would you let us know if the the recipe is in one of your books and if so, would you give the page number and book name?

    • @MelissaKNorris

      I try to but will remember that for future recipes. The pie crust recipes are in both books but this one isn't in either

    Wouldnt it have been easier to cut the slits while its flat and then put it on top? I like this idea for hand pies. I usually just make them the size of my hand.

    • @MelissaKNorris
      @MelissaKNorris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had several people use a gluten-free blend with the pie crust but I haven't personally tested it

    • @MrsNerfyattheendoftheworld
      @MrsNerfyattheendoftheworld 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because the moisture content is so low, I think you totally could. I've had great success using whatever GF flour I have on hand for pie crust recipes. As always, just add your liquid sparingly at the end until you and up with the right texture. (Hope I'm not giving bad info, I haven't checked Melissa's prized recipe yet.)

  • @TheRockman260
    @TheRockman260 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Am I missing where you say the temperature of the pre-heated oven? I checked the written recipe and it doesn't say it there either, unless I am going crazy (very possible).

  • @ka6148

    Why not make the cuts on the top part of the crust before you set it on the Cherry filling that way it's a flat surface even cuts and it's easier to press on your filling
