How has this channel not blown up I've never seen so much nostalgia condensed in its pure form Subbed You've ressurected so many 90s childhood memories I hadn't even realised I was on the cusp of having fade away 👍💪🙏🙌 Edit: Did I fix my grammar or spelling, you'll never know
I know what you mean, MoHT. Somewhat in the same vein, this weekend I've been converting a bunch of old VHS stuff to digital I hadn't seen in over a decade or two in some cases, and that's been a flood of memories, not to mention a taste of what TV was like 20+ years ago, heh. But yes, digression aside, I appreciate the sub and happy to have you aboard!
A Rolodex? What is this, 1989? Ahh, such an excellent game, and a fun class! I remember the frustration of this one well, but the infinite continues and outstanding soundtrack made the brutality bearable. Hard to get too angry when your ears get treated to some of the best on the ol' grey box. First time I cleared it, there were so many 6-1 restarts. But, persistence did pay off eventually. Thanks for another enjoyable trip down memory lane. Side note: you'd think a CIA agent who got the drop on a master ninja and then busted a cap on him would be better at avoiding capture. Irene got really lax after that first stunt! Pride is an insidious killer indeed...
Another great vid, Professor! Let's get this series up in the rankings! Ninja Gaiden as series is a great example of "NES Hard"; it's difficult, but encouraging. When you get hit by a bird, you feel simultaneously that it was your fault but also the game is being a jerk. But hey; unlimited continues! But also 6-2. So "GIT GUD". ..also, yeah, Ryu's cut scene vulnerability will never not be hilarious, even in the modern series.
Your content is amazing and you should absolutely take off, hopefully the algorithm agrees. Commentary and gameplay is amazing! Keep up the awesome work.
Most definitely, MadHatter. We did NG3 a couple few months ago and I think that outpaces this ever so slightly in terms of difficulty, but man if this doesn't have some (classically) unforgiving stretches.
Ninja Gaiden had amazing cutscenes, fantastic gameplay, tough enemies, and challenging levels. The Ninja Gaiden series definitely revolutionized video games. Astyanax was another NES game that used cutscenes heavily. Level 6-2 in this game is extremely hard. That is where I get stuck. Thanks for covering this game.
I have beaten all 3 of the final bosses in one go, but I have also had to start over at 6-1. There is an easier way to beat the Jaquio. At the start of the battle, run over toward the right wall, jump on the platform and then jump onto the wall. Shimmy jump up the wall as far as you can go. When the Jaquio is coming to the right, you have to jump toward him while slashing with the sword in midair. If you time it right, he will knock you backward into the gap at the top of the right-hand wall but you will be facing into the room. Kneel down and time your slashes to destroy fireballs and you will hit the Jaquio every time he flies by the right-hand wall. This works best if you have a turbo controller. I can't wait for you to do Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos. I have a lot of nostalgia for the second game because I had my name in Nintendo Power because I sent in pictures of the ending and they put me in the magazine as finishing the game.
This game reminds me so much of that Sunsoft Batman game. They are both relatively hard NES platformer games with wall-jumping mechanics and Batman is actually remarkably similar to a ninja. Batman is like the DC take on a ninja.
This is another skillful and entertaining video of yours, and I've watched most of them by now. I made a comment on your Mega Man video about how you cheesed out the pause attack on every boss, so I personally appreciate that you fought the bosses without laming it out with "jump n slash" like most people, aside of course for making an example of the 2nd one. I have not beaten this myself naturally, so I also appreciate watching how you ran through the final areas. I only ever got to the 1st Final Boss, and was overwhelmed with all the projectiles, then back to 6-1. Thank you for the new twist on nostalgia. 😁
Thank you! Ha and yeah I remember; still need to revisit that one at some point. The Jump n Slash is always the go-to because it works so (too) darn well, but had to show alternative methods in case you lost it, died, just didn't want to use it, etc.
Ninja Gaiden is one of my all-time favorite Nes games. It was one of the very few Nes games that had the ability to pry me away from my Sega Genesis in 1989. What an incredible ride.. Addendum- I have beaten Ninja Gaiden more times than I can count. Let's see if you can show me something new. Fun Fact: I have broken many controllers as a kid playing this. During this activity I stumbled onto a very interesting find. Ninja Gaiden has a sound test and level select code that would activate any time I plugged in my broken controller on the title screen. I have never found a way to legitimately access these cheats any other way. Fun Fact #2: The same broken Nes pad allowed me to cheat death while plugged into controller port 2. Any time I would fall down a pit all I had to do is hold up while mashing B and A like crazy to make Ryu wrap around the screen. He would fall through the floor and land on the ground safely.
Cool! I just stumbled upon this one (subbed already). Oddly enough, I didn't own NG 1 and 2 until 2000, I had part 3 since 1991. Got rid of all 3 games later on, but i found II again. Still have the box and instructions for III. I'll have to check out the other videos. Well back to the guide!
@@VideoGames101 By the time I got the first 2 games, I had mastered NG III. Beat it in around 30-35 minutes one time. This was my first time owning the original and part II, and having only briefly playing the original before (a friend had it), it was super tough! But I eventually got through it. The same thing with Part II. They have more controllable jumps than the 3rd which are too floaty....
The fact that this game has infinite continues is both a blessing and a curse. It makes it feel like there is no excuse to not beat it, despite its crippling difficulty. Looking forward to today’s lesson, prof!
Yeah it's crazy to me that they did away with that in NG3, but you're right, it takes those continues when you're new to this game for Stage 5 and beyond in particular.
For the past few years i'm so happy to come across your channels, few other youtubes and U can beat video games. I've always been interested to go back to these other Old games I got snobby at before and ignored them or they just kicked my butt back then n didn't have patience to beat back then. Btw you're bringing out so many videos every week dude, have you already recorded everything months or years in advance similar to some weekly content creators with their own staff? Heck recently there was a video from The Kirby creator himself Sakurai who mentioned he made hundreds of videos years in advance to give to his staff so he can keep on uploading stuff all the time on youtube it's pretty crazy and genius. Btw I wish your channels had more views, dude your work is really entertaining, awesome and so unique. You also sound like my best gaming buddy who I still play coop games with in arcade games, action games, card games, PvP games like guilty gear, shonen fighters, smash, tekken, heck even fortnite of all games and I used to hate it lol. My friend even does anime subs so I'm always seeing new animes i've never seen before. Btw I do love the original Ninja Gaiden on NES and the first two reboot era games on original Xbox and Xbox 360 they're fucking brutal but super fun tho sadly takes dedication to get good to beat them sadly. I've never played Ninja Gaiden 2 n 3 on nes and I wasn't a fan of that reboot NG3 game either it was pretty lame that I checked out of that one. I also don't like these current Ninja Gaiden remasters, Yeah yeah the old games are super hard but it's part of the experience imo. It's like doing a task that's new n very frustrating yet when you've figured it out and done it you feel accomplished.
As a kid this game was so cool and so hard at the same time. The cinematic cut scenes were badass for the time. I never made it close to 6-2 but the glitched checkpoint is BS.
Amazing game with a legendary soundtrack. Have you ever played the SNES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy game? I have beaten it straight through but not without losing a life somewhere along the way!
Ninja Gaiden is were i first learn to never trust the CIA. Have you played The Turbo Grafix 16 version? That game is brutal. I can never beat that game. This is one of the rare versions were the NES is better than a system that haves better graphics.
I have not played it but I've seen it and yeah I was surprised at the NES version looking better.. I should give it a go to see how it handles comparatively.
Not so much _this version_ but I did try out the turbografx (alias, PC engine) version. In part because there were some cheats, not least of which one that translates the script from Japanese to English akin to what we have here in the US NES copy. Unfortunately even those able to play it on real hardware can confirm the visual glitches it suffers; but it somehow felt more... forgiving? Not sure, but I was able to get further on the tg-16 version than I ever did on the nes version. But no, this is firmly a franchise that I basically resent for being too difficult to be fun. Case in point, the xbox version. First, with how big a deal was made marketing how it actually _had_ an easy mode in the re-release that is Ninja Gaiden Black (and the first Sigma on PS3). What _isn't_ told to you, is both how you have to unlock it, and the consequences for doing so. First, if you do unlock it and elect it, it forces creation of a new save file. Any score you accumulated before it, is *wiped permanently.* Second, they go out of their way to make the equippable item(s) you do get from the easy mode look frilly, likely to dig at the egos of the macho players that wanted to act like they could beat the game blindfolded or something. Third, the cutscenes are then altered so every interaction with Ryu has him getting ridiculed throughout the entire playthrough. I _guess_ it had the intended effect of compelling me to try again normally. Even going through the process to finding and collecting all the scarabs. With the progress I was making on the tg-16 copy, and knowing the unlockable reward for collecting them all, I _was_ hoping to unlock the NES games to replay through and see if I could get further and maybe even beat one of the classic games that way. *NOPE!* Ninja Gaiden black removes the unlockable NES games, for the beat-em-up arcade game that nobody I associated with knew existed, much less cared for. I felt absolutely insulted. All that work and I didn't even get to unlock the game I wanted to play. And it acted like letting me select an even harder difficulty was some kind of reward. Love your video on this game. _HATE_ this franchise with a passion.

Completely agree on the use of colors and various environments; they did a lot more with the NES than a lot of developers.
