InuYugiHakusho Yeah, it's fairly easy now, but still.. those later levels are not that forgiving. It only gets harder from there. 'Volkmire's Inferno' (Level 7) is like the 2nd turbo tunnel. The Ice Cavern is harder in my opinion in the original version of the game and is slightly easier in the Japanese. If you've played the Japanese version of Battletoads, you will notice just how many improvements there are, like difficulty-wise. The 'Clinger Winger' level (11) is the one that you can't beat if you're emulating the game, which means that even if I want to beat it, I gotta be playing on a real NES and on an old CRT TV. Input lag has to be decreased to it's minimal.
Street Fighter and Ninja Gaiden both have the characters named Ryu and Ken, but they have different meanings in Japanese. In Street Fighter, Ryu means Prosperity or Abundant (隆) and Ken means Fist (拳). In Ninja Gaiden, Ryu means Dragon (龍) and Ken means Sword (剣).
Ninja Gaiden actually holds up pretty well. Obviously the graphics are 8-bit NES, but the game is actually amazing. Like Contra. Oh, and "a ninja must look beyond the borders of the screen", amazing. That's high quality content there.
2:07 No, it's not the same Ryu from Street Fighter... But it's the same Ryu from Dead or Alive! however, Ryu (SF) met Akira from Virtua Fighter in Namco x Capcom and its sequels, while Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden) met Akira in DoA5. This means that while they're not the same person and all, they do have a friend in common.
how the hell did Akira meet Ryu from the VF series when thats a sega property? Sega isn''t going to release a Virtura Fighter 6 or 7 so they just let their fan favorites go on the latest DOA last round. If its true then thats neat.
crazybongo5 Oh crap, I said Namco x Capcom, but it actually happened in its sequel, Project X Zone, which is basically Namco x Capcom x Sega. I don't know how could I make such a stupid mistake. Either way yes, it happened.
ryu hayabusa and ayane were actually from ninja Gaiden and so was kasumi i think and they were all put in dead or alive but you probably already knew that
When I was a kid I made it to the final boss once and proceeded to get steam rolled. I don’t think I’ve touched it since. Such an unfair amount of difficulty.
13:30 the trick to beat the section in 6-2 is to go slow. Take one step at a time (tap the forward button). That will make only one enemy spawn at a time making them much easier to deal with. It will also trigger the glitch to make all of them stop spawning much easier since you need to position yourself on a specific spot to make it happen. For phase two of the final boss is to bring the flame weapon and as much ammunition as can carry into the boss room and spam it on him until you’re out. His health should be much lower and more manageable to deal with. This was how I managed to beat it.
You''ve had the wrong teacher, there is only 1, true Ninja Gaiden master and he's called Arcus. A wise monk by the name of Summoning Salt will tell you all about him.
The trick to beating stage 6 is to get (and keep) the Jump & Slash weapon. The real challenge here is bypassing all other weapons throughout stage 6. The reason this weapon is so valuable is twofold: (1) it operates like the screw attack from Metroid, so you can trigger it during any jump where you are likely to collide with an enemy and (2) it is extremely lethal to the stage 6 bosses. You may find yourself having to re-run the stage if you screw up or run out of ammo for the weapon, but once you know the strategy it's not nearly so hard. Also, as a protip: hit down on the D-Pad if you want to do a regular jumping slash while this weapon is equipped. This is an important skill, as it lets you conserve your weapon ammo for when you really need it. Beyond that is just a matter of memorizing the levels. It's still not easy, but if I could do it at age 12 I am sure you can manage.
2019 and I'm still seeing it, AVGN is a legend for me. Come to Mexico sometime James! You have a lot of fans here. I take you to some real tacos and barbacoa if you come 🔝🎮
I had an NES in the 80s and hadn't played one in over 30 years until last year I found one at a local flea market on a slow Sunday. I was immediately hooked once again! And AVGN has been a delightful rabbit hole to fall down!
The Q-Tip thing is actually essentially impossible without advance warning. It's an old bar trick done with money usually, the problem is, the time it takes the signal to travel from your eyes, to your brain, and then down to your hands is longer than it takes things to fall out of reach, try it with a ruler and see how many times you land on the same spot. The only way to actually grab something that short legit is actually anticipation. You can kind of cheat if the other person has any body language tells that you can pick up on before they drop. But otherwise this is an old bar trick that is widely known as an easy way to pick up 20 bucks off people. It obviously works better on drunk people, but even sober people on the street will lose consistently unless they get lucky and think to grab right before it's dropped. I also don't recommend sticking your thumbs into fan blades. You're going to break your fan.

Input lag has to be decreased to it's minimal.
Still one of my favorite episodes. Best montage ever.
I love how they used the Practice/Training mode theme from Killer Instinct when he went to go talk to the Ninja. So good👌
This is one of the best episodes.
11:26 - I'll just leave this timestamp here for when I want to see this again.
This is pure art.
Had to stop by and watch this classic episode because I finally beat Ninja Gaiden today!
Conglaturation
Pics or didn’t happen
LOL! you beat Ninja Gaiden...you're not a very good liar.
@@jester7152I have pics!
congratulations!
People need to stop saying the Souls series is the Ninja Gaiden of our time. The Souls series is extremely fair and easy.
Street Fighter and Ninja Gaiden both have the characters named Ryu and Ken, but they have different meanings in Japanese.
In Street Fighter, Ryu means Prosperity or Abundant (隆) and Ken means Fist (拳).
In Ninja Gaiden, Ryu means Dragon (龍) and Ken means Sword (剣).
but his name is just ケン?
"It always seems like you gravitate towards the nearest hole."
I didn't come here to feel attacked.
This is hands down THE best AVGN video, and possibly one of the top 5 videos on all of TH-cam.
they should bring back the ninja.
11:26 this is one of the funniest and most memorable scenes of this era.
Ninja Gaiden actually holds up pretty well. Obviously the graphics are 8-bit NES, but the game is actually amazing. Like Contra.
Oh, and "a ninja must look beyond the borders of the screen", amazing. That's high quality content there.
Kevin Finn is the best
2:07 No, it's not the same Ryu from Street Fighter... But it's the same Ryu from Dead or Alive!
however, Ryu (SF) met Akira from Virtua Fighter in Namco x Capcom and its sequels, while Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden) met Akira in DoA5. This means that while they're not the same person and all, they do have a friend in common.
haha cool
how the hell did Akira meet Ryu from the VF series when thats a sega property? Sega isn''t going to release a Virtura Fighter 6 or 7 so they just let their fan favorites go on the latest DOA last round.
If its true then thats neat.
crazybongo5
Oh crap, I said Namco x Capcom, but it actually happened in its sequel, Project X Zone, which is basically Namco x Capcom x Sega.
I don't know how could I make such a stupid mistake.
Either way yes, it happened.
ryu hayabusa and ayane were actually from ninja Gaiden and so was kasumi i think and they were all put in dead or alive but you probably already knew that
Dead or alive? I though that's
When I was a kid I made it to the final boss once and proceeded to get steam rolled. I don’t think I’ve touched it since. Such an unfair amount of difficulty.
i find this game to be easier than any of the nes mario games
@@memberofchat2825 how so
The NES Mario games aren't even that hard. The NES Ninja Garden trilogy is just brutal though
Just enough to make Cuphead a walk in the park now.
one of my favorite episodes so far
+Steel Stager this and the spider man episode are my favorites.
Ninja Gaiden. Still haven’t beat it since 1988. Pure and absolute torture.
5:58 “Ninja Gaiden I haven’t Heard that name in ages” I can relate.
Johnny Ace Mike.
Gray Hayabusa kevin finn
Ryu hayabusa is the ninja name
That ninja master training James to play Ninja Gaiden was priceless!!!
I really like the Ninja Gaiden intro art at the end also; *VERY* cool!!!
This is one of my favorite AVGN episodes. After all these years, it still cracks me up.
Are you controlling the game, or is the game controlling you?
When literally anyone in my class said that he's beaten ANY game, we'd just come to him and listen how the hell did he do it. Those were the days...
I never could beat Battletoads. No matter how many times my friends and I got to the last stage, we could never win.
"You are playing with anger!"
Do you realize what show you're on?
Damnit you beat me to the commen
JoCoProductions He's the angriest gamer you've ever heard.
+ExplorerDS6789 He's the angry Nintendo nerd.

Been rewatching avgn and i think i enjoy them more now than i did as a teenager. This one was great.
You''ve had the wrong teacher, there is only 1, true Ninja Gaiden master and he's called Arcus. A wise monk by the name of Summoning Salt will tell you all about him.
This is the history of Ninja Gaiden world records
punch punch, punch punch
It's still not easy, but if I could do it at age 12 I am sure you can manage.
dark souls aint got shit on this
This is just hard because of Its age,the technology, its still hard but still
Thou has but a clue.
damn right
Because Its not polished.
It's straight up unfair.
Favorite episode ever! So many great lines from the Ninja.
I live by his advice!
2018, and this is still my favorite AVGN episode.
I think it'll keep that way forever maybe...
2019 and I'm still seeing it, AVGN is a legend for me. Come to Mexico sometime James! You have a lot of fans here. I take you to some real tacos and barbacoa if you come 🔝🎮
I remember playing it as a kid. This game taught me the true meaning of "rage quitting"!
Now of days dark souls can carry that touch no pun intended 😄
*Watching this in 2017. Still haven’t beaten Ninja Gaiden.*
I beat part 2 in late 1990 while skipping school, true story.
Was it that easy to skip school back than?
Ninja Gaiden 3 (well, the Japanese version) is pretty easy. Not too bad.
Haven’t beaten the Mario game either
yes its kinda strange
This was one of the best episodes James has ever done.
It's my favorite. Both because I have my own history with the game and because it's such a clever and funny episode.
2:12
Fun fact - Ryu Hayabusa is the Protagonist of both Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive.
Yes, those games are canon with eachother.
The montage part always gives me chills, the theme goes so well with it, love it so much 😭
