    Short Fuze was my first GI JOE. I can never forget the joy of having such a toy for the first time in my life.

    Well, Short-Fuze doesn't seem to inspire much love in people but I'm the one who requested him so thank you. :) I admit that most of the media didn't develop him much but I was was always intrigued by what the file card implied about his personality. He provided a good dynamic when I was constructing mission scenarios as a kid. I liked that he was competent but high strung and he made things interesting, even if the figure was, as you said, an oversized army man.

    This figure was my very first Joe ever. I've been toying with the idea of collecting the ones I had growing up starting with him.

    Shortfuse will always be special to me, he was my first GI Joe. He was stolen, I found one several years later in a thrift store.

    14:19 Pet peeve, putting the visor on the wrong way. I saw the commercial in 82' and had to have him. It's awesome laying down mortar shells on Cobra while Stalker and Grunt move up to better positions.

    Mortar soldiers are what make the infantry lethal and special operations special. You’ll never see a special forces team without at least one

    My very 1st GI Joe toy was Short Fuze. Still have him! Not my favorite, but he means a lot to me.

    Great review! I always placed him with the mortar defense unit or with the forward observer set.

      +affoster79 He would go well with either of those sets.

    A lot of the original green 13 were not that imaginative. But being someone's first Joe, all 13 are highly prized. Short-Fuze is my first Joe. It's too bad they never fleshed out his character. I know I wouldn't want a guy with a short temper swinging an 80mm tube around me. And I guarantee neither does Cobra!

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Deadduck2pt0 You're right. They could have taken that element from the file card and made him an interesting character. He has unfulfilled potential.

    Like many people, this was my first Joe (well the funskool snake Eyes / street hawk was first but this was the first official Joe).
    Has a special place in my nostalgia. Loved the visor and the uniform. Unassuming but open to interpretation

    I have a 1983 card back with his file name as Eric W. Freistadt. This 1983 card back also has a 1982 copyright date.

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Rhonda Spivey Apparently they changed the name somewhere in the 1983 run, but as far as I know, no 1982 cards have the Mark W. Brenstan name.

    Oh wow! I had (more than one) Short Fuse, but I didn't have the mortar or the visor.

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +David Landon Cole I was going to ask if the spelling of the name was different for the British release, but I checked again-- "Fuze" is an explosive device used to initiate a main charge. It is distinguished from "Fuse," which is a cord that is lit in order to ignite an explosive. Wish I had included that in the video.

    • @DavidLandonCole
      @DavidLandonCole 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, but I didn't have the British release; I was in Brazil, and had the Jogos Estrela version.

    He was the first Joe I set on fire! I went through a destructive phase when I learned how to make a mini flame thrower using my moms hairspray & a lighter. I used him as a driver most of the time because he no longer had thumbs. He crashed a lot... I kept him until I married. Believe it or not, his head never truly caught on fire & so he never lost that smug look on his face. Great review 👍🏽

    Short-fuzes head is actually original since short-fuze was produced for hawk v1. His helmet defiantly was thought up at the same time as all the other 82 figures. The rest of the mold though ehh I don't know I'm not sure if he was developed before or after zap it's either one or the other.

      As you pointed out, most of the 1982 figures were pretty uninspiring. Snake Eyes was everyone's favorite Joe among my friends.

    It's true, the head sculpt reuse is underwhelming. I have 3 V1 Short Fuzes....one has very faded head paint so I was thinking of customizing some round glasses out of epoxy on him and then repainting him. I'll post a pic if I have any luck!

    I prefer Downtown, a criminally underappreciated figure for a mortar soldier.

    If I had this figure, I'd use milliput and yellow acrylic paint, and I'd use the milliput to sculpt a moustache (quite a thin one) [I'd have to finish it with a sealant].

    nice review to a pretty boring character, and I will say that head sculpts are so bad in the first year that putting his head on Scarlet's body didn't make her any uglier lol. I did also enjoy you having roadblock kill him haha.
