    Doc, Duke, and Spirit - bringing new meaning to the phrase, "I got your back."

    Doc is my most coveted figure to obtain yet. My dad was a combat medic, that's most likely why.

    While I was in the ARMY all of our medics carried both the M4 and an M9.

    I've always loved Doc. I don't think I ever realized how much of him was used for Duke, but very cool. I used Doc a lot in my playtime. He was always fixing somebody up, hah.

    Was too young to understand play value of Medic in 83 so I missed out on Doc. Reget that big time. I collect with the intention of playing with my kids and now Doc is Major part of my collection.

    I can't believe it took me that long to get to this review. Doc was my first Joe, moreso, Doc was the first action figure that I was allowed to pick out for myself when I was young. I loved the GI Joes, the packaging grabbed my attention and the figures captivated my imagination. I had the caveat that I wasn't allowed to pick a figure with a gun, luckily there was Doc to fill the roll and become my first Joe and kickstart a life long love.

    I can remember exactly when I got some of my figures and vehicles as a kid. I received Doc as a gift from my parents while I was in the hospital along with the Skystriker jet.

    Doc rocks! I liked him way better than Lifeline. Sometimes the more modestly detailed figures were the best in my opinion. I know opinions are like noses.

      Lifeline seemed to complain a lot about combat, more than Doc did. Especially in the cartoon series.

    Don’t forget Doc holds the unfortunate honour of being the first G.I. Joe character to be killed in the line of duty when he was shot by the Saw Viper in that pit before a number of other Joes were also slaughtered.

    Sadley he was the first casualty when they went realistic in the comics.

    He was an admirable character, stood by his principles when everyone else had some kind of weapon or vehicle, each more lethal then the next.

    Doc actually, in a lot of Sunbow episodes, is a bit of a badass. He does deal in firearms and explosives and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Sorry, I like my medic violent and unafraid of contributing to the cause lol

      Yeah! I think because his back is kind of generic, it was easy to use it for other figures.

    Doc was my favorite (until Lifeline). I pretty sure I used him with a couple of M.A.S.H. actions figures to play out M.A.S.H. TV scenarios (probably not the most two-fisted use of "action" figures, but I liked it).

    I just scored Doc 2 hours ago, he's got the Battle Accessories green helmet and gray flare launcher but got him cheap, always liked Doc...very cool guy.. had lifeline as a kid but Doc is way cooler.

    I forget what I heard about the orange cross. I might be specific to a Nam era unit or something. Either way, I'd like to see what you do with an update. Updated reviews are usually very good.

    I think Doc was the first character with an action figure to be killed off. He and some other Joes were prisoners and a SAW Viper shot him in the chest repeatedly with an M60. I remember being very shocked as a kid when I read that. "They killed Doc!"

    • @wallaroo1295

      It was a pretty shocking comic, at the time.

    • @calanon534
      @calanon534 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was also the first comic I got.. and the last. Having become accustomed to the cartoons and the way they handled things, I just couldn't stomach the realistic violence of the comics - there was a major psychological disconnect between the two. I was too used to watching them take prisoners and beat each other up in fistfights after they blew up all the vehicles.

    Kudos to you for a video well done! I've noticed that very time you show Stalker, his right foot has putty on it to support him. Why is that? Most of your other figures are supported by the figure stands from the '90's figures. Is the hole underneath Stalker's right foot too small for the battle stand's peg, or he just doesn't look good with a battle stand? Viewers want to know.... As always, keep up the good work you do for this channel!!

    Doc is a Doctor. He’s NOT, a 68-W. So he’s actually above the medics. Lifeline is the equivalent of what an Army Medic is. We wouldn’t‘ve called one of the doctors a medic, our medics were enlisted. Doc was an 0-3, a Captain.

    Most of the first year's Joe's were all green, and you love them, but you don't like all tan? I think it's an excellent figure with it's color. You're missing some paint on Doc. Should color him in a bit.

    Doctors are allowed to carry sidearms under the Geneva Conventions for personal defense and a somewhat ceremonial reason: handing over one's sidearm is a gesture by an officer indicating that he has surrendered and accepts his prisoner status.
    The pacifist medic in a combat unit seems to be a reference to the story of Desmond Doss, the only contentious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor, having risked his life repeatedly to save wounded members of his unit while serving as a medic during the Battle of Hacksaw Ridge during WW II.

    One of my first two 1983 action figures I got. Too bad they killed him in the marvel comic.

    • @user-si9fx4xb6v
      @user-si9fx4xb6v 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it was a real shame, especially since at the time of that issue of the comic book being published Hasbro had a policy that if any G.I. Joe or Cobra characters died in the comic book series, then no action figure of them could be made. Ironically, Hasbro had to change that policy when Dr. Mindbender version 2 came out in 1993. The executives had forgotten that Dr. Mindbender had died, so in the comic book they explained this version of Mindbender is a clone of the original.
      I am glad that Doc did get some new action figures in the modern sculpt era. Like many fans, I welcomed his return in action figure form after such a long time.

    I think LIFELINE is even MORE of a pacifist!

    • @user-si9fx4xb6v
      @user-si9fx4xb6v 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed he is, the Sunbow cartoon writers loved to play up this trait. Some fans really got annoyed by this. Larry Hama did a much better job of showing this trait in G.I. Joe: Special Missions issue #4

    • @calanon534
      @calanon534 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Countdown for Zartan, he actually does take up an XMLR-3 and take a few shots at the Dreadnoks. In the Cartoons, he didn't get much of a chance to fight, but he did do so, and wasn't particularly demonstrated to be a pacifist. Interestingly, in a couple of animation errors, Lifeline was also pictured with a laser rifle in Last Hour to Doomsday.

    Too bad that Hasbro never made some of M^A^S^H* complex with more medic personnel . You see my Dad always said : " That war is stupid " when I was kid latter was says more stronger words about politics like always ... Well maybe Hasbro not wish kids too ask hard questions ? :(

    • @HCC788
      @HCC788  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jakub Buszko You're right. That would have been nice. There was a M*A*S*H toy playset from the TV show. It would work well with Doc. I'm pretty sure its in the same scale. But I think it's really rare and expensive now.

      @sparkster1701 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +HoodedCobraCommander788 I've seen carded versions of the M*A*S*H figures and they are about the same size as the GI Joe toys of the 1980s.
