I am very excited for you! I got a used 6" jointer around 2 years ago and it was a game changer. If your fence can slide back and forth I highly recommend moving it when doing the edges of boards. Keeps the blades from getting dull in one spot.
I think it's a great entry level/starter floor jointer. It could certainly be improved but I think it's excellent for the price and it gets the job done for sure.
It’s okay for the price, I rarely move mine aside from a foot or two when I’m crosscutting large pieces on my table saw. If you’re moving it often it’s probably worth the $100 for a better mobile base IMO
I just purchased the Shop Fox equivalent. They're identical as far as I can tell except the cabinet is slightly different. I haven't set it up yet. Are you still satisfied with yours? Plans for a helical head down the road?
Nice! Yes, I'm really happy with it and I would buy it again. The only thing I really don't care for is the fence - it's okay but it flexes a little and I wish it was a bit stiffer. I might get the helical head eventually, but everything I've jointed or even face jointed has turned out fine with the knives.
There are swivel locks at the bottom that lock the wheels to make it stationary. As far as level to the floor, as long as the infeed and outfeed tables are level/coplanar to each other, they don’t necessarily need to be exactly level to the floor - not sure if mine sets 100% level to the floor, but it’s very close if not exact.

Just ordered this one. Really like that it has the option to switch to the helical cutterhead.

Nice! I think the G0656x has the spiral cutterhead where this one is just regular knives.. not 100% sure on that though 👍🏻

How do you feel about the mobile base - do you think it's worth buying a separate mobile base to put it on if it'll be moved more often for $100-120?

With the built in mobile base, can you adjust things to make it level on the floor and stationary ?
