Good info.. for jointer blades I used iGaging Digital Plane Iron and Jointer Knife Gauge from rockler, but you should also investigate a helical cutter head for that jointer.. they are worth every penny especially when working with harder wood. Also a surprisingly good straight edge for jointer setup are the cheap harbor freight 6ft aluminum levels.. they are like 10 bucks they are plenty straight for tool setup and aren't $300..
I have same model with knob securing cutterhead guard. I lost the spring. No longer available. It looks like it was made in early 1990’s. I saw you modified spring on your G 1018. Can u do video showing what you did and it works after end of board crosses rotating blades. Much safer with spring. Thanks. Good video.
I have the same unit but cant find the year on mine. I was trying to find the spring assembly for the cutterhead guard grizzly shows a different setup. Any thoughts?
I just talked with Grizzly. Spring no longer available. The picture on original manuel and machine don’t match. Later versions removed knob. His video shows a modification. Watch and freeze at part with cutterhead guard removed.
I really did pay $400, about a year ago, for it but had to drive 3 hours each way to get it. I saw similar prices as you are when I was searching, sometimes it’s just a waiting game. For $1000, I’d be tempted to buy new.

I’ll check those tools out! And trust me, I’ve been looking 😂 I think my planer will get the helical treatment first but they are high on my list 😂

Thanks for sending me an email! Glad I could help!
Great find!
Wonderful find! But full disclosure my brother found it and sent me the link 😂
Nice I am going to have to get my joiner tuned up now.
Awesome! 😄

Do you need the whole cover? Or just the spring?

Did you really pay $400 for it? How long ago was that. I’m seeing the same model going for $1000 on Facebook marketplace. Seems high to me.

@@NorthwestCraftsman which 8" jointer can you get for close to $1000?
Please ditch the music. Trying to watch as the spouse is relaxing and the music comes on twice as loud.
I’m sorry, that’s never my goal. I’ll work to correct this in future videos. Thanks for the heads up.
