- I was invited to Renault in Paris for an exclusive preview of the all new Renault 5. The Renault 5 is reborn and they have actually made the concept car that we first saw 12-18 months ago. In this video I get the opportunity to show you around the production ready car ahead of it's global debut. A very interesting car for Renault that's for sure.

So nice to see that colours are coming back in fashion. I am so sick to death of Black, Grey and Silver cars
👍
It’s not back till I see brown and gold 😂
@@SWR112well… yeah… we could skip those 😂
Yes, but I'm not sure about THOSE colours. I'm not keen on the yellow or that shade of green. I might go for the blue, but the burgundy colour of my old DS3 would look best.
Same, i love bright colours and we a awash in a sea of dreary shades.
This will be a winner for Renault. EV's at the less costly end of the market are what is needed now.
Over here in North America all they want to sell are big expensive EV’s. I just think that is the wrong approach. $100,000.00 for a big pickup truck that really can’t tow isn’t going to get people in EV’s.
Indeed..and what with the Citroen e-C3 getting into showrooms here in France now at €23,000..that's another more affordable EV
For me it does not matter how cheap EV’s become until the infrastructure is sorted out so that charging becomes as easy and convenient as filling up with liquid I would not consider buying one.
@irton-nu9iv I've owned an EV for 5 years, it's our only car. In the first couple of years it was 'touch and go' a few times on long hauls to find a rapid charger but in the past 2 years it has been so easy that I hardly bother using the app to plan the journey. We live in rural France, the Poitou-Charente so the nearest towns of any size are 60 km away. We've done 4 trips to UK, one to Germany, two to Switzerland and one to Spain, never had any problems using public chargers and never had to wait to get onto a charger. It seems to me that people who suffer from 'range anxiety' and worry about finding a charger are people who don't own EVs!...I would never go back to hand over my hard earned cash to the oil billionaires and handling a dirty, smelly pump.
@@PeterKirton-nu9iv Its funny after 4 years of EV ownership the idea of having to go to a petrol station feels so convoluted and inconvenient.
We do need to see at least one or two rapid hubs in each town for those that can't charge at home, obviously place is at the supermarket so you can charge up for the week while you do your weekly shop.
This has infinitely more charm than any anonymous Chinese offering. Renault going after emotional appeal is a clever strategy.
👍
Renault every once in a while does that. If they didn't, they wouldn't have made the Twingo, or the Clio V6
@@PlatinumNath …and as such it’s great to see the Twingo is due a revival in the near future too!
Exactly. When you look at the younger generations, they enjoy the ol' timers & everyone is so fed up with boring clonic SUVs...
Also, realistically, the middle class is shrinking everywhere: 80K for a new vehicle that will be obsolete 8 years later is just not financially acceptable. Back to healthy basics + personality.
Thank you for Filming the Video, a Car I’m very excited about 😊
What a fantastic looking thing, well done Renault. So much more appealing than what MINI are doing now, and the first EV I might actually want.
Looks good doesn’t it 👌
Renault 5 looks great but let us see how much it is by the time it reaches UK.
Finally an EV I’m excited by and makes me smile when I look at it. Well done Renault.
Yep 👍
Absolutely love it, my 3rd car was a Gordini Turbo, my 5th or 6th a GT Turbo, and 30 years later at 50, this might well be my next. What a thing.
For years Renault lost its design inspiration but not now. This is fantastic and I love it. Let's hope battery performance and price are up there with the best. Well done Renault ❤️
It's been a long time since a Renault made me smile so much 😊 The battery indicator is giving me Clio Williams air scoop vibes. Thanks for the exclusive.
👍
The style, the character, the personality, the history, the exquisitely simple design, just perfect, WELL DONE RENAULT
👍
Excited for this one. These guys have actually turned the beautiful concept car into the production version. Props and Shout-out Renault. Its a great car that'll do well. Renault we love you. Continue to work with Petrol Ped to bring us more content on your awesome cars in the future.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Up until now, The Peugeot E208 was my favourite in terms of looks since it was launched, This Renault 5 is an absolute stunner.
👌👍
Thanks Pete. Renault are nailing it with EV design with the 5 and the Mégane E Tech .
I think the production model actually looks better than the concepts! Please keep up updated on this one Ped! 😄I may have just bought myself a lovely night blue Mk7 GTD, but this Renault is veeeery interesting
Baguette in France - Baseball bat in London!
😂😂😂
i think for the US as import, u could fit a shotgun..... kinda a US baguette.
In London, you would need a scabbard!
in paris too in my opinion...
This looks brilliant - especially in yellow.
My dad had a GT Turbo in 1986, fantastic fun. I got to drive it sometimes when I was 18/19 before he sold it.
Myself and Kate love it. She loves it in White. It’s really cool in my opinion, classic with a kiss of modern. Well done Renault. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
love the gt and Gordini
Never been a fan of the Renault 5 more of a Golf GTI fan but got to say the Renault looks stunning! I can see it being a hugely popular car 👍
Retro design can be tricky. The VW Beetle for instance, pretty in it's own way, but just not cool. This R5 though, wow, absolutely nailed it..! As others have already said, "I want one". 😋
Yes, exactly
The Renault 5 is the car i learned to drive in. I'm thrilled to see such a stunning reincarnation of this iconic car.
👍
I remember very very clearly how cars like Renault 5s and Fiat Unos felt, they were basically super thin metal and small bits of plastic with engines about the size of a shoebox, and tyres as big as a doughnut. It's almost surprising they weigh as much as 800kg :)
Credit to them. They've nailed it
I think so too 👍
It looks so gorgeous! Love it! It's very MAGNIFIQUE! Vive le Republic!
Thank you! Cheers!
Vive la Republique .. :-) but that is too much patriotic, specially when it comes to France...
@@marcdereuter4370 Dumb comment, dude
@@garnray8568 i guess you don't know parisien people then 😅
@@marcdereuter4370 Actually I do and you didn't mention Parisian people -who can be very patriotic-, you mentioned "French people", you t h i ck o.... Do you know all 67 million French people? Do you ? I'm not French but have French friends, including Parisians, I dont know where you are from and couldn't care less but you need to grow up.
That is stunning! Bring one back from Paris for me!!!
There are loads of videos on the Renault today, but yours is by far the best, principally due to your obvious passion for it. I’m a similar age and was brought up in the world of 205/Golf Gti’s etc and do miss them. This one has gone right to the top of my next company car list (although not sure the wife will want the yellow one!).
Thank you 🙏🏻 The global embargo dropped at 0900 UK time that’s why 👍
Can you imagine Peugeot (or whatever is called nowadays) doing a new 205 like this R5? 😱
@@beltrangarrote1982 Yeah, but Stellantis would charge £45k for it!
That will sell very well
Yep 👍
Hope so, untill know more than 50.000 R-Passes sold, Renauld speaks about more than 100.000.... But honestly, i'am worried about the price. It's still very expensive for such a small Car. shown like in the Video will be around 35K €.
Back when i was a teenager (a very very long time ago lol) i remember getting a lift off a guy with a 1981 Gordini Turbo. Its stuck with me all these years because in the 80's it was a rocketship. It got the bug for Renault at that point and went on to own a Feugo GTX, 30 TX, and the daddy of them all, a GTA V6 Turbo.
Nice 👌
Probably won't see the US but if it did I would be putting a deposit down on one.... Kudos to Renault for building an interesting car with LOTS of style and heritage of the various generations.
I agree. Not sure if it will cross the pond 😬
Bonjour PP. oh the 5 GT turbo, nice. If only we could go back to the hot hatch era. I like how they have encapsulated history in the new one.
Wow. This will be a huge success. Love it 🎉🎉🎉
I think so too!
The 1972 original with the umbrella gear lever is just so pure and perfect to me. Still looks modern and yes there is a very passing resemblance between it and the new ev. I have to say I’m extremely impressed. It would be even more lovely to be as soft as the original
Having had the pleasure of selling the original Renault 5s from launch and then after I left Renault bought and enjoyed a new 5 Gordini, this new 5 brings back wonderful memories. Renault have “smashed” it. Best EV styling I’ve seen.
I love the styling of this. I can’t wait for the Alpine a290 version.
This new breed of Renaults looks really cool and a car you would want to own and this R5, they have hit a home run for sure.
👍
Pete I love it 😍 I’m a little bit older than you but it’s truly iconic and will always remember the first car I ever hired on holiday in Spain which was a knackered 1980’s 5! So much fun and so many fond memories. Love our mini electric but this for me is as iconic and I’d buy one ❤
Right on!
Finaly again une belle voiture on the road. Winner!! love your enthusiasm. Great video.
Thanks again!
Oh my days , The want is strong with that little beauty, I instantly regretted selling my R5 GTTurbo , so I think some 'ManMath' is in order 🙂
LOL 😂
Wow !!! ...... Now that did surprise me. Wonderful review and insight and yes, your spot on there PP, this will definitely be a class winner
Fingers crossed!
Saw this in Goodwood a couple of years ago so great to see it put into production 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍
This is the French at their very best - designing small affordable cars that are charismatic and stylish.
There's still a lot of residual affection for French brands which they need to leverage if they want to challenge the Chinese EV onslaught.
Indeed 👍
I hope this encourages more manufacturers to create ev cars to hark back to the 70’s designs,,, great video pete
All credit to Renault for keeping 90% of the concept design
You and me both!
Great review, loved the review thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Renault has made a game-changer that will smash their competition.... and the competition are so dumb they will be just bewildered.
What a great looking car, I think we'll see a lot of these on the roads.
Me too 👍
Good morning all! I will save this to watch late today in the evening. Hope everyone is doing well and have a great week.
Good morning!
It was nice to see you lend you height to Matteo Valenzia on his video.
Love the design of the Renault 5
I had three of these in the 80's. One orange, one white and one black. All had the silly Le Car decals on the sides but I didn't care. What a blast to drive these!
👍
Great vid, absolutely love this car.
Thanks! 👍
I had a wonderful new 1988 Red R5 GT it was perfect around London. Only issue was the static the gave off and pax were often very queasy after a journey.
excellent design... Improved from the concept with each redesign. Small yet masculine. With a happy face. With hints of lime & banana. Love it!
Nice! Great to see the return of the Renault 5 and great video as always Pete. Mini, beware!
Thanks! 👍
Hier is echt goed over nagedacht, dit wordt een toppertje..👍👍👍
Yep 👍
Great video and presentation 👍
Thank you 👍
What a pretty car! I ve always loved the original Renault 5 Turbos. But sadly I can only afford the toy car and scale model versions.
Agree Pete looks great cheers
👍
You reckon they've knocked it out of the park- I think you're absolutely right. A few other design cues, the vertical stripe on the passenger side of the dash-same as Mk1 . Also the diamond shapes in the headlining
Oh there where loads 👍
Winner-winner, chicken dinner! I would buy one of these in a heart beat! The screens wouldn't get in my way, because they don't scream for attention. I could spend hours looking for all the cool little Easter eggs in the details. What a lovely thing! Can't wait to watch you drive it, Mr. Ped! Aloha!
Cheers Jim 👍
❤ Renault 5 E-Tech ❤
My first ever new car was an H reg Renault 5 Campus 1.1. It was cool in a 4 speed, not even a cassette player kind of way. On balance, I think this new reincarnation is actually cooler though. The big question is - will they have a cassette player..??
I really want one too. Never really get excited over many electric cars coming out but this just stirs my soul. Great video as usual Ped.
Thanks for watching!
Love this car. Renault have smashed it out of park.
👍
reat video, I've waited for nearly 2 years to see this, can't wait to see it on the road😄
You and me both!
I'm not an electric car fan but that I think could tempt me, it's super cool plus I started to learn to drive in a renault 5 back in the early 80's
👍
My first car was a Renault 5, this is great and would love to get one as an entry to EVs
I like it! I admit, being ancient, I love the early R5's and was impressed with the 1.1l Renault 'tin thing' (no idea) I bought for _one hundred pounds_ but front-wheel bearings were insanely large, and hard to replace ...then I gave it to a mate. I miss it.
Beautiful looking car!
It sure is!
Great video, thanks !
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Its a bloody great looking car cheers mate
I was really surprised that there was no
Mention of the Renault Five Raider!
Good review though 👍
Thanks! 👍
That yellow one is ace and reminds me of the yellow F1 racing car ala Rene Arnoux and Alain Prost of the 80 s
Ooo yes 🙌
It’s the right size for an EV, the current trend of humongous SUV EVs is just ridiculous.
EVs are perfect city cars or short commute cars, this has all the signs that this is what they’ll be.
Kudos to Renault for keeping true to the original concept as much as possible.👌
I agree 👍
Best looking ev to date , saw this at goodwood a couple of years ago and loved it straight away , Pete what did you think of the screen in the middle as it looks like the one in the Renault traffic van , which maybe not a good thing . But overall they have nailed it
It’s not the one from the van. The infotainment system is brand new and looks very good indeed 👍
This will be the future for electric cars. Small, fun city cars for those local journeys and not reliant on public charging. Renault have done well here.
I think so too 👍
Just awesome, well done Renault 👏
Glad you liked it
Excellent video. Thanks. Vive la baguette !
Glad you liked it!
Dare I say as iconique as the original Mini. The basic fifty years old design holds up.
Yep 👍
Looks great, fit for purpose! It's clearly a fun urban EV which is what ALL EVs should be.
It'll never catch on. No HUGE GRILL 😂😂😂. Seriously what a car. Top marks to Renault 💙🤍❤
👍
Great to see a new EV that doesn't shout: 'I'm a new futuristic EV that dates over night.' This is lovely, stylish, a bit retro and something you won't look like a twxx driving😂😂
Couldn't agree more!
Superb coverage Pete! Renault got it right asking you, with your knowledge of the French language and culture, to come along and share your acute analysis on this “oeuvre d’art”! I fully agree, they’ve nailed it! It is going to make things less easy for the Stellantis group Fiat 500e. Amazing!
Cheers, Tom 😊
Many thanks Tom 🙏🏻
Great video
Thanks!
Way better to buy the Renault 5 than the Dacia Spring.
What an outstanding first review, well done matey 👍
As soon as its out in GT spec my Supra is a goner 😂
Thank you kindly 👍
One take 😜👍
Just imagine how many Renault would sell if it was a modern 5 GT turbo with an engine instead of it being an EV
Looks superb had a couple of R5s.back in the day love the 1972 model with the gear lever through the dashboard. I have just bought R5 priority pass Renault have told me the car won’t be available in RHD in the UK until August at the earliest.
Very nice!
@@PetrolPed I forgot to mention that Renault are sending me a die cast metal model of the new R5 as part of the priority package.
Great presentation by the way👍😎
Looking cool with enough range to get me from Surrey to Manchester!
👍
Totally agree, Pete, re it being "concept, non incept" too much of the time! Love the car, my mother had a 5 gts in '78. They need that orange colour in production.
Got to say, this is the first EV I have 'wanted', very interested to see Alpine's spin on it.
This new R5 is incredible. Love it 😍
Yes fresh and exciting design ,it would be great if they had a small tuned petrol engined version which has been brushed over by Alpine, unfortunately we know that will never happen, but I think there is an opportunity missed as not everyone is ready for electric !
Designed from the ground up as an EV so has benefits not possible if there was an ICE version.
We too have a soft spot for the Renault 5, it was my wife's first car, a kingfisher blue example circa late '70's/early '80's. Sadly I don't think we'll ever go electric as I've been quoted between £10,000 and £15,000 to install a charger on our drive, which includes digging up a major part of our garden to get the cable there.
What ?! I don’t understand that. It’s normally around £1000 all in. A 3 phase AC or DC charger might be 15 grand 🧐🤷♂️
Bang on Pete, it will sell well (even as an EV at launch).
In the early noughties when BMW brought out it's modern take on the Mini & when Fiat re introduced the modern-chic 500... big sellers.
I think it looks great... i'd pass on the bagette holder & the lipstick gear selector might be seen as sexist... but when in France 😳
Straight from Chanel. Another French design classic 👌
Love that rear quarter view, classic...
Me too 👍
@@PetrolPed Did they give any idea of actual launch / availability date?
What a lovely car. As said in the video, it will probably sell very well. The Fiat 500e should be worried.
I am glad to hear you lived in France in the early 90s...
My favourite country 👌
Looks really good.Looking forward to when you can drive it.
Me too 😬😜
Absolutely love this, used to have a Gold Renault 5 Gordini in the 80's - mad as a box of.... 😄 Any idea on availability?
I think you can register interest now. Deliveries start later this year 👍
Hey Ped, what an absolutely awesome EV... Renault have done their research and run with it. What until this arrives on the streets, EV modern retro, great work!😊
Thanks Rod 👍
Bonjour from France Ped!... and thanks for another well presented overview. Transporting baguettes normally result in the front passenger seat getting covered in flour..😂...I will ask my Kia dealer if such an accessory exists with them. 😊...Renault and PSA (Stellantis) are competing hard now for the kind of car that most French people buy.
Cool, thanks
I really am impressed by this car! Loooooooooooooooooooove it!!!!!!
👌👍
If I had the money id be getting one even when I hate electric cars ...I love this
👍
