The Tesla Model S Plaid is a high-performance luxury electric car that Tesla says pumps out 1,020 horsepower and does 0-60 mph in 1.99 seconds. If all of that sounds impressive, that's because it is. Taking its moniker from the space comedy Spaceballs, the Model S Plaid is the fastest Tesla you can get. In this video, Alistair Weaver gets behind the wheel of the 2021 Model S Plaid to review everything this luxury sedan has to offer. Alistair goes into detail about what he likes and doesn't like about the Model S Plaid and discusses what the Plaid trim has to offer over the base Model S. We also test the Plaid to see how it measures up to Tesla's claims. It's ludicrous speed or bust in this review of the 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid.

The problem is that the Model S Plaid is really boring despite it being fast. As an owner of a Model 3 performance for nearly 3yrs now, I can tell you that nobody really needs faster than 3sec 0-60mph. In fact, it just starts to get too fast beyond 2.5sec as Ludicrous+ showed. So then why is this "marvel" worth $140-150,000? It's worse in so many ways than rivals as a car beyond that. I'm beyond disappointed with the new Model S. I've been waiting close to 3yrs to upgrade, but it's so boring an uninspiring - particularly the old fashioned exterior that reeks of 2016 - that I'm simply sticking with my Model 3 Performance. I'm an EV enthusiast above all, so will see what Lucid and others deploy in the next 18mths, because this dull car is not enough to tempt me to spend $150k even though I have it for the right car.

@@Libertas_P77 That's fair. So if Lucid is able to get their car out and you can buy one (not sure when?) you're not going to to for the top one, since it's too fast, right? (By the way, my car does 0-60 in about 10 sec and it's not a big problem. Of course I'd be happy with a long range Model 3 that does it in 5 sec or so, which is faster than Testarossa just a generation ago. I'm sure the Testarossa handles better. In general cars are way faster than they need to be. But the Model Plaid showed that fast cars don't have to be gas powered. In fact, electric cars, with the right technology (i.e. Model Plaid technology) can be "mind bendingly fast" It's easy to detune that technology, but other manufacturers can't as easily "uptune" their vehicles. "Performance" is very much the selling point of the Porsche brand. Would you be happy with a $150,000 Taycan? I'm not sure which trim level that would get you, but not the top one, I assume. I guess that one doesn't have too much range and isn't too fast, and doesn't have the rear legroom or trunk space which are all wasted. But does it have what you want?

But no one can afford these cars, because they're all worth 2 million dollars+ the plaid is desirable because it hits such a more affordable price point where it can be more attainable for those who aren't straight up billionaires. And the level of performance you get out of a Tesla model s plaid is equal to or just slightly less than those two million dollar hypercars for a 10th of the price.(or what you would pay taxes on those cars) if the sedan body style doesn't rub you the right way that's fine.... Yup, some quality issues still remain, but the car looks amazing, fits 5, daily driver beyond the stunning performance, not just drag strip (see Laguna Seca, Pikes Peak 2021). To say that the Model 3 is the ground-breaking car is stunning compared to the Plaid. You literally have to spend $2.4M to beat this car on the strip or on the track. This blatantly biased and factually incorrect episode is indicative of just how far the fossil car industry is prepared to go to slow Tesla down. Autopilot costs $10000, seriously? Autopilot comes free with the car! Edmunds (CarMax) has so little credibility left, if it wasn’t so pathetic it would be laughable. The really sad thing about this is that some people might actually accept the inaccuracies as truth. Having said all this it is all about clickbait. Setting the Tesla fans and rabid Tesla hater brigade against each other makes for more clicks.

Dexter Hochstetler they like the acceleration?? They literally said “this car is too fast” as a downside of why you shouldn’t buy the car. Not only that but it was riddled with misinformation and bias. OP is right, not only is autopilot free with the Plaid, but it’s free on literally *every single Tesla you can even buy*. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 3, a Y, an X, or the newest Plaid, autopilot is 100% included and free. Edmunds bias was showing hard this video. To me, I feel like Tesla is trying to be like Apple, eliminate certain functionality and replace them with a new technology. For example, the removal of headphone jack. But what Apple did right was, the replacement was actually forward thinking. Cars are not smartphones or computers, when you're driving on the road, safety should be your number one priority and I don't think Tesla thought about that before replacing a normal steering wheel and basic functions like horn, blinkers and wipers with garbage. I love everything about the Model S but steering wheel and the soft buttons suck. At least they should have been an option for a standard steering for those that doesn't like the yoke. A lot of people will get into trouble because of the steering wheel alone.

I am surprised how this car doesn't feel nimbler than the Model 3P with it having tri-motor and torque vectoring in the rear. Seems like it's not all about power and even torque vectoring but also a lot about chassis, suspension (already double wishbone upfront) and performance add-ons like those available on Porsche's.
I found the review quite fair but as per some comments, there were some misstatement of facts like the price on the ADAS.
