    As I said when you first went back to Tenerife, didn't have a lot of interest in these videos, as never been to Tenerife, but I do enjoy your travel and flight videos like this one. It has me excited for my first solo trip away to Ibiza at the end of September. Looking forward to the upcoming New York and USA trips and videos, and am now starting to plan to go back to New York next year, either spring or summer, with my son. Will defintiely try and visit Hoboken this time, and Bleecker Street Pizza is calling again!
    Onwards, my freind. 🕶

    Recently, I went with my sister and bro-in-law to Arnhem, to visit the grave of my uncle, who died there in the airborne ladnings in 1944.
    Arriving at Stansted, we got to the gate and I was confrinted by a young lady, who asked me to put my miniscule "case" into a frame, then decided it was "too tall" to go into the cabin, advising me that I would be charged £45.99p to put it into the hold. It happened to my sister as well. When we got on the plane (none of us wanted to miss this pre-arranged trip), only two of ALL the overhead lockers, along the length of the cabin, had any luggage at all in them.
    The case I took has been on many flights with me, both short and long-haul and often, I have flown Ryanair. I never came across this before.
    I knew Ryanair were sly, but this took the biscuit, especially as the overhead lockers were all bloody empty! We plan to go back for the annual Arnhem memorial service in September - I won't be taking a bag. They can stuff their £45.99p charge! Shysters.

    Indeed.. problem is elderly people may struggle to obtain a credit cards and won't be familiar with using debit cards. There is a real gap here which the likes of Age Uk and the Government should address to help elderly folk and make them feel more comfortable in an ever changing modern society.

    Hey mate - looks like a good trip was had. All the taxi tariffs on canaries are shooting up by a few eeuros. Theyre in the middle of changing all the meters at the minute - re-calibrating etc. So, if youre lucky, you’ll still get a cab with the old rates but as time goes in, these will be fewer & far between, until at some point soon, they’ll all be charging new higher rate 👍👍

  • @rp5371
    @rp5371 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I agree, and its a shame they refuse cash. I in the last year now have tried to use more cash as its far easier to save that way rather than tapping everywhere! I was on Ryanair recently and they refused cash for 4 orders of drinks and food so I just said we wont have it then out of principle, only had an hour wait until landing. But its more the principle of taking that choice away from people like you have mentioned.

    I feel I’ve been hoodwinked. Sat through the whole video. Only to find Ryanair doesn’t take cash . Like most airlines now. I thought it was going to be about something serious. Like flight cancelled for a day . Or someone kicking off . Or a medical emergency. No, far from it. Some old dear couldn’t get a cup of tea , but did . And it wasn’t Yorkshire tea. But the screen shot gets you sucked in big time like a major issue . Classic salesmanship at its best . Bravo.

    Great vlog as always..but yes it's a total nightmare everything being online these days has my mom is in her 80s and if you phone most places these days you have to start pressing numbers to speak to who ever you need to speak to what's happened to people to talk to because the is enough people in the world and it's the same when you go to a supermarket and use the self check out and you have got more members of staff there if someone has a problem than the is on the tills..so yes I can understand when the older generation say the good old days..plus the reason the taxi was cheaper going to the airport because the hotel probably set it up to get rid of you after you slated their breakfasts 😊

    • @TheCarlanthony
      @TheCarlanthony ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the case. The food&drink is not from the airline themselves. If we did not pay for these items then the suppliers would go out of business then you would simply get nothing. Even has crew we would get a small cut from everything sold onboard.

    • @terryhoath1983

      Never mind beverages, O'Leary tried to charge a pound to have a wee-wee several years ago. He said that people should go before getting on the plane. He gave up on it when people started using empty plastic bottles and jam jars which they had brought with them for the purpose.

    • @steve1909
      @steve1909 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheCarlanthony Sorry but that is BS. Food and drink are free on most international flights. The airlines could pick up the cost at least for coffee, tea and water. Just like they pay for paper towels and toilette paper.

  • @jerryconnors8663
    @jerryconnors8663 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good video once again Lee! Michael O’Leary’s running the show there at Ryanair. As we say here in the U.S., “he’s nickel & dime’ ing ‘em”. Didn’t he want to charge for the use of the lav?
    Since your seatmate didn’t have a charge card, you did a nice act of charity by treating her to a tea (although it was not a Yorkshire tea). But seriously I think Ryanair should have some vouchers to purchase prior to flight for covering any on-board purchases just for those not having charge cards. She probably had a third party do all her arrangements maybe a travel agent. Ryanair should advertise these travel options. Anyhoo, your usual travelogues are much appreciated!!! Onward! ✈️

    I enjoyed the video and glad you're back. I've never flown with Ryan Air, and wouldn't do now if I were going anywhere, the seats look really cramped together and the no cash thing sucks and I'd rather pay with cash too. I don't have a credit card, never have and neither has my partner, don't want one, all we have are debit cards and cash and that's how we like it, we don't have contactless on our cards either, don't want it. If somewhere doesn't take cash, we will avoid and I'd avoid Ryan Air and others should too. It was good of you to help the lady on the plane.
    Another suggestion for a trip in future which I think would be interesting would be for you to go to Gibraltar ... hope you'll consider it.

    Cheaper taxi going back could be cheaper due to the airport surcharge for pickup, not sure if it's applied to dropping off. I'd have asked to see their signs saying no filming lol. It isn't just Ryanair that are now card only after the pandemic, many, MANY airlines are now card only, and they do state on the website and at the time of booking that they are card only, so I stand that you should always have both card and cash, (on a flight it does make sense for a quicker turn around time and quicker service, but in most places, if I see card only, I avoid), use cash as much as you can, especially in the Canary Islands as a lot of wholesale companies delivering to bars etc are cash on delivery so it REALLY helps out the bars by not having to close/get extra staff etc to go to the bank and get cash out to pay for a delivery

    The problem, Lee, is that choice usually comes at a cost. I’m
    not a great Ryanair fan but suspect that the reason
    they carry so many passengers is precisely because they cut costs to the bone and people then have a choice whether to fly with them or with someone else. If people choose to fly Ryanair, that’s where choice comes in.

    Sadly everything is going cashless today and the government and banks support this not just in this country but happening in many other countries across the world. Many bank branches are closing in many towns and cities where people especially who are elderly like the lady you helped have no Internet access to banks and may be unable to even know how to use a computer or smart phone. I have a younger sister who is nearly blind and has to be able to have access to her local branch where she lives in Lytham St Annes to assist her with finances. She can't use a mobile phone because she also has fits at times which would trigger her fits if she ever got one. Luckily she has a home assistant and a good neighbour to help her with things when needed. Thanks for helping the lady on the return flight it probably meant a lot for her. I would have done the same in that situation. Well done.

    I think we have a duty to take care of the elderly and kids. Shirley might need to take medication, she might not have had anything to drink for a few hours. Discretion should have been used in this circumstance. Good man Lee for getting Shirley a cuppa. Shame on Ryanair staff.... That could be your mother or granny. How would you feel.

      The government need to sort this we don't except cash out . Whilst cash is still legal tender in this country then it should be mad law that cash should be excepted on trains , planes and buses or anything else . Sick to the back teeth of hearing about this we don't take cash.

    Another good flight vlog, totally agree that modern technology and government are forgetting about the elderly my mother in her late eighties relies on me to pay her bills, she has always been independent and I see the frustration in her eyes every day, local Government don't want to know as they are lining their own pocket !! some earning more than the PM .🙄

    I'm not one for queuing at the boarding gate, but the problem is these days, so many take a carry on case/bag on, that if you last on a full flight you can end up with it being the other end of the plane, cos all lockers are full or Ryanair will put it in the hold. Either way you end up having to wait to get your case! It's also a bit odd the old dear not having a card or PC but was on a Ryanair flight that can only be booked online with a card 🤔

      @@joannedelaney3866 possibly but look at the end of the day, these people knock Ryanair, but as said elsewhere their policies are well documented. You wouldn't get on a bus with a fifty quid note would you? Some forget had it not been for Ryanair and their policies, low cost airlines would probably not exist. ATB.

    I've never flown with Ryanair. I used to use Monarch until they went bust. Since then it's either been Jet2 or easyjet for my mainland Spain or Tenerife trips. Both been brilliant every time. After the stories i've heard or read about Ryanair, i'd rather walk to and from my destination than use them.

    I would have happily given her a freebie cup of tea as an act of goodwill from the airline. It is good public relations and could make the difference between the customer flying with us again or not. What costs more? A cup of tea or an airline ticket?!

Can’t see the problem with filming a bottle of whisky. Nice gesture to buy the lady a cup of tea at the end, but no Yorkshire tea! We certainly live in a cashless society now.
