Uh, more Banzainator, please! She was amazing. So glad Wendy mentioned Paladins, a top 10 all-time game for me. Several other great options mentioned (I can't wait to try Underwater Cities). And why isn't Roy on here recommending Dune Imperium? Come on!
Scythe rocks!! I finally taught my uncle, but he still wants to play Twilight Struggle with me mostly. Sadness... Excellent list everyone! Merry Christmas!
Here are the 12 on my wish list: 1) Darwin's Journey, 2) Origins: First Builders, 3) Ark Nova, 4) Yedo, 5) Gugong, 6) Marco Polo II, 7) Teotihuacan, 8) Praga Caput Regni, 9) Tabannusi: Builders of Ur, 10) Tekhenu: Obelisk of the Sun, 11) Dominations: Road to Civilization, 12) Rajas of the Ganges. Some of these might not be available by Christmas though.
Arnak and Search for planet X are strategy games ( Search for planet X doesn't even fit in my definition of a Strategy game), but are not advanced for me. They could be medium weight but it's only my opinion! Great series of videos :)
Just want to offer a theme correction for Tom's introduction of Whistle Mountain (fantastic game, by the way). You are trying to mine the mountain to collect resources in order to make your company more profitable in the railroading industry. You construct framework and machines that help produce resources, points, and abilities. All the while, your efforts begin to create flooding in the canyon below due to the heat produced by your construction efforts making the mountain snowcaps melt. Great worker placement and medium strategy game (can be quite heavy with the right players). Highly recommend it myself for people looking for a thinky game with a light-hearted theme.
The Search for Planet X is a great game, but I don't think it belongs on this particular list, sharing company with the likes of Tekhenu and On Mars! It would work for anyone who enjoys logical deduction, not just those who want a long, heavy strategy game. I would have liked to see Alchemists recommended here instead as it combines logical deduction with an unforgiving worker placement mechanic and is longer and much crunchier (but also loads of fun). I wouldn't call Lost Ruins of Arnak an advanced strategy game either, although there is strategy involved - I'd probably place it in the same category as Dune Imperium.
Top newer Advanced Strategy games that should all be available in retail. No specific order. 1. Vast: Mysterious Manor 2. Lisboa 3. Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization 4. Dominant Species: Marine 5. Brass: Birmingham 6. Teotihuacan: City of God's 7. Paladins of the West Kingdom 8. Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion
Would definitely say Gale Force 9 Dune, it is the best strategy game of all time. It’s pretty much Dune in a box with excellent mechanics that completely represents the IP of Dune. One of my favorite games of all time.
Hated all the way. Mechanics in dune are old school. It takes to long, there is none interesting gameplay and card bidding is just trash. I love books but game is not good. Theme is nice but gameplay is terrible.
It's a little strange to see On Mars and Lost Ruins of Arnak in the same list of "advanced strategy games". I've got both games and I would not buy Lost Ruins for an advanced gamer. Lost Ruins is so much more simple than On Mars, isn't' it? Although, I suppose everything on this list is more simple than On Mars. LOL. Great list in general, though. Love you guys!
They are both gamery games, On Mars is the heaviest of the heavy while Arnak is not as complex, but there are many systems which make it hard for newcomers
@@Andrew_NJ it has deckbuilding, worker placement and resource management. It's complex when compared to any entry level games. It's not as complex as a LaCerda , but you are being stupid if you think it has no complexity. Try teaching it to someone who's not played anything more complex than Rummy. What you said made no sense.
@@tomasxfranco While I agree Arnak isn’t a simple game, I think it belongs more on the strategy list than the advanced strategy list. I believe it is closer in complexity to Khora, Everdell, and Clank In Space than it is to On Mars or Scythe. I believe this even moreso for Search for Planet X. This is not an advanced strategy game. Alchemists is much heavier, and even that isn’t on the level of true advanced strategy games. Sad to not see Terra Mystics or Gaia Project on the list.. I feel no true advanced strategy list should be without one of them
@@tomasxfranco Its complexity rating is 2.85 on BGG, medium-light to medium is not "ADVANCED". I have tought hundreds of games and there is nothing difficult about teaching "deck building", "worker placement" or "resource management" mechanics, these are some of the easiest mechanisms to teach new players since they are intuitive. The game however is a euro and thus has some euro rules, these are not complex let alone "advanced" by any measure.
I'm starting to think they just throw in non-genre games to piss Tom off.. ?? Mike be like, "If you make a decision, it's effectively a strategy game" Tom: *face palm*
@@andrethannhauser6302 Well that still supports the main point since these games do not reach that threshold: 2.31 - The Search for Planet X 2.85 - Lost Ruins of Arnak 2.75 - Merchants Cove
Great series. The only thing that annoys me slightly is that some presenters seem to talk into their computers micarray while in a random room at home. No studio or mic to use?
I love the intensity of that woman that was introducing Ruins of Arnak.

I was thinking the same thing. Given that most games require variable degrees of strategy, I guess it's rather subjective.
😂 Man it's so great to see Banzainator talk about Lost Ruins of Arnark! Definitely need more of this 😂

We never got the "Middle List" of two player games (Intermediate 2-player games)
Oh yes, we did do it!

On Mars, Chris? Lacerda may be pushing it a bit lol good list guys
Hmmmm arnak and search for Planet X seem like they are on the wrong list given they also have a strategy games list.
I would expect "advanced strategy" to be a weight of 3 or higher. So, it is surprising those weren't on the other list.
