How is it possible that tracks look THAT good on MKDS??? Totally amazing 👏🏼👏🏼
MKDS has always had a really strong visual style, on top of the DS' brand of low poly low quality textures just generally being appealing, so it makes sense that it looks nice
A good pallette and appealing texture design can male anything look phenomenal and far ahead of its time, that one of the things I love about bringing new stuff backwards or the other way around.

I think
Snes custom tracks are just a different image using pre-defined sprites though those sprites can be changed. Less effort overall to make a snes track especially given the size constraints.
I'm shocked that the MKDS remakes look incredible than the other games despite it having terrible graphics and low resolution.
Its because,its not always about good graphics a game.
@@louismalardon3363 True. I never care about the graphics that much. I only care about the gameplay the most. As long as it is fun to play, then that's all I really want it in a game.
thats because the ds versions arent direct ports and the maps had to be created from scratch.
@@chaospxl_ all of them had to be remade from scratch. Minus water park which seems to be a downscaled actual version of water park, rather than a recreation thanks how jaggedy it is. it's like using the "Destruct" plugin in blender. Still impressive to make the collision, but the model itself is the problem.

I loved how you could paint your own logo on your kart in MKDS. If Nintendo could bring that back and let players make their own tracks in the next Mario Kart that'd be lovely.

These are some really great tracks, some do need just a bit more polishing but overall they're pretty cool.

Love the Tracks for the Wii version and it’s cool that you can put it on the DS but it’s weird when you cant trick, great video.
I grew up on DS, but now I've watched so much MK 7, 8, and especially Wii content, and played MK Tour recently, that not tricking on a game with similar driving mechanics and physics is extremely weird. (Double Dash and 64 are quite different so it doesn't feel as weird. The remaining two go without saying lol)

@@MKWahPhil If that was the issue, then MK7 tracks wouldn’t be in CTGP. The problem with MK8/MKT tracks is that they’re very high-poly and thus it’s very difficult to strip them down to a point where they can be played smoothly on an actual Wii while still looking good. Many courses still have no Mario Kart Wii version at all, and it was only recently that we started getting some.
@@Nightcaat If that was the case, Dolphin Shoals would already be in Ctgp. There are copyright issues. I don't know why they're not there for MK7. You have to ask Nintendo for that.
The Mario Kart Stadium on Super Mario Kart (SNES) Shows 2 things:
1. The Anti Gravity MAKES, the track design in the game
2. Super Mario Kart for the SNES has a limited number of assets.
Yeah, the SNES was pushing hard as it was just to make Super Mario Kart work, and even the N64 needed to use a ton of 2D sprites. I'd say GC was the first console to handle Mario Kart in its entirety, fully 3D. GBA was great for 2D Mario Kart.
@@calebdonaldson8770 diddy kong racing was capable of using 3D models for the racers. it's weird how mario kart 64 wasn't.
@@jclkaytwo A lot of early 3D games used that trick of 2D sprites just rotating around the player. Whoever came up with that effect is probably a millionaire!
The DS tracks look AWESOME! The other ones all kinda look like they were just thrown together

I like how most of the ds ones don’t try to imitate the gimmicks, like the giant bowser or the gliding mechanics. They change the level to make it feel like it would be on ds.

I have played mario kart 8 ds deluxe and wow the tracks, the textures its so clean like can't stop looking at it.
It's awesome to see how much these consoles can take in their attempt to recreate the originals! DS tracks were especially notable, though 3DS was a bit iffy, and Wii ones were great polygonally but needed polish.
That Wii water park shortcut was unreasonably advantageous

The Mario Circuit 3 remake was from a mod known as Mario Kart Retro Rewind. A MKWii mod that brings (almost) every track to MKWii

I didn't want to make the video any longer. There are multiple ones that I didn't record for this video, but I thought the tracks that I showed off in the video more than showed the point that I was trying to get. Now looking back, I should've at least added that one. o;

Water Park's underwater merry go round could easily be created with an edited version of casino_roulette, which is the file name of the rotating ground in Chain Chomp Wheel.
To be fair, this is an older track, but I thought it was the best recreation for Water Park that I could find. o;
