With members of the mushroom kingdom making up quite a high portion of the roster, I would assume that its also one of the main organizer. As THE leading political figure of the main organizers, it would make sense to have one of the camera men follow her specifically.
I think this is more of a case of him not being familiar with... basically _everyone_ on the roster. He's the ONLY Zelda character of said roster, after all, whereas there's two of Splatoon (Inkling Girl and Inkling Boy), and three of Animal Crossing (Male Villager, Female Villager, Isabelle).
Walugi/wario being paired with toadette seems like just a nod to the idea that they all were created as offshoots of over characters, waluigi to Luigi, toad to toadette, etc
Two notes: 1. Lakitu also doesn't have a rival in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with him, Link and the Miis being the ones left out of that. 2. There is actually only one other place that would suggest that Wendy has any rivalry with Peach and Daisy and that's her Smash 4 trophy, where it says she sees Peach and Daisy as her rivals. That could be what this choice was based on.

And it's so tiring honestly. All the hate she got back then is probably why Nintendo never brought her back for 8 in any capacity and it sucks because she's one of the most unique characters in the Mario Kart series. There's a severe lack of female heavyweights.

if you actually think about it, Toadette's connection to Wario and Waluigi actually does make sense in the fact that she could be considered Toad'a opposite. It's a bit of a stretch, considering that Toadette is as nice -- or even nicer -- than toads usually are, but it would explain why she's grouped in with the other anti-heroes.
Maybe the connection is that she's so nice that she actually talks to them and give them the opportunity of having a friendship with her. I always imagine most characters kinda avoid them, so the connection would be just literally the only other character that talks to them.
I love this aspect of Mario Kart because it shows which characters consider each other rivals, plus it literally started a 10-year-long rivalry between DashieGames & Donkey Kong *for context, Dashie always uses Yoshi in MK8, and DK is Yoshi’s rival, so whenever Dashie gets hit in the game, he usually always blames it on DK* 💀

7:18 If I had to imagine it could also be that both of them often live in forests (Wigglers first appear in the first Forest of Illusion level and Yoshi is first seen in Yoshi’s Island 2, a deep forest level.) and the rivalry could likely be friendly. I doubt it’s a hateful one because Yoshi can’t eat wigglers in most games, so they’d have no real reason to hate each other. (The only timed he could eat wiggler in was SMW and the cartoon for it.) Also a weird rivalry I thought of in 7 was the Mii characters. Instead of letting literally any character be their rivals, each gender of mii has a specific set of 2 rivals and a secondary rival. Males get Bowser and Metal Mario as rivals and Mario as a secondary rival, and females get Yoshi and Rosalina as rivals with Peach being the secondary one for them.
I think that, Wario notwithstanding since he defys this connection, Waluigi and Toadette make an interesting friendly rivalry pair due to the shared connection in their inception as characters. Both were made for a spinoff game solely to fill the role of teammate to another established character and have since gone off to be their own characters since then.
I think the Koopaling pairs have to do with their weight class: Lemmy and Larry both happen to be lightweight, Ludwig and Iggy are mediumweight, and Roy and Morton are heavyweight. Funnily enough, the SSB4 trophy description for Wendy does state that she sees Peach and Daisy as rivals.

Nice video! I, too, have always been curious to try and explain to myself the connections between the rivals in the system. Here’s a few that interested me not mentioned: In MK7, for example, Metal Mario’s biggest rivals are Bowser and Rosalina (Mario acting as a third, which is understandable). I gotta hand it to Metal Mario for having an interesting rival pair, as I’d probably name those two as my rivals myself if I had to, but I’m curious why Metal Mario got that pairing. In MK8, Wario’s rivals are the same as Luigi: Mario and Daisy. These two fit Luigi perfectly, but I’m not so sure about Wario. Mario I can understand, but does anyone have an explanation for why Daisy? In addition, Lakitu also has no rivals in Mario Kart 8. And Toad has Waluigi as a rival in MK8, which was a pretty odd choice to me. Though I guess the latter is meant to mirror Toadette having Wario as a rival. Even more interesting is that, Peachette’s rivals in MK8 Deluxe match Toadette’s, which I think is pretty explainable as to why.
As an avid Waluigi player before the booster pass 4 nerf, I always found it funny that Luigi and Toadette were always 2nd and 3rd place in my races. I didn’t know that this rivalry system existed before this video, but i definitely observed it in gameplay, because every Offline clip that I have has me beating or contending with a hard CPU Luigi outpacing the rest of the CPUs

In terms of the Peach and DK rivalry, there actually was one time in which Peach substituted for Pauline, that being Game and Watch Gallery 2 and 4 where the Modern version of the DK game had Peach in that very role.
Lakitu also does not have any rivals in 8 Deluxe. So him, Link and Mii. It should be noted that King Boo did not have any rivals prior to Petey Piranha's addition in Wave 5. For those who did not purchase the booster course pass, King Boo remains rival-less in single player.

Actually, Yoshi being a rival to Wiggler might be a reference to the Super Mario World cartoon! In the monumental episode where Luigi recounts the story of how he found Yoshi for the first time (that's right baby, Mama Luigi), he mentions that Yoshi, immediately after being born, saved him from a gang of angry Wigglers by eating them all. As someone who's played both, not exactly. It'll just make the challenging AIs random characters, not preset ones, so you'll get a more random mix like Luigi, Yoshi and Kamek etc. Note: I mention 3 names, since in those two games, only 3 CPUs stay close to you, the other 8 are set to be in the middle or back (basically rubbish AI and unrealistic compared to online, where everyone is much closer).
Still kinda weird how Bowser Jr and Diddy Kong weren’t rivals for each other in an update to 8DX once Diddy was added since they are friends/rivals with each other
I still don't understand why Yoshi's two biggest rivals in 7 & 8 have been Toad & Donkey Kong. I don't see any connections whatsoever (NO, Dashie doesn't count since that's after the fact), and quite frankly, I began to find Toad & Donkey Kong very annoying because I'm apparently not allowed to play as my favourite character in Grand Prix without them appearing all the time and in podium position over 90% of the time. I know for a fact that this is due to the demo version of the original Mario Kart 8 sticking the first twelve characters in guaranteed rival arrangements, but there was no excuse to not make any changes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I should feel at least some solace that Yoshi is one of the best characters for the second time in the series after Mario Kart 64, but I wish Nintendo would let Yoshi have something interesting or meaningful more often without always defaulting to Yoshi's Island theming.
The only rivals I know were in MK7 because it had no VS mode so I had to play Grand Prix every time. Of course SMK, 64 and Super Circuit are the same too
I think DK Snr. And Jr. did kidnap some Toads once. DK III being Mario's rival in that one game could be a reference to the original but also a reference to Mario Vs. Donkey Kong. DK and Bowser have a rivalry in Mario Party. DK Senior and Junior did kidnap Peach a few times in the Game & Watch Gallery Games so maybe that's why.

The idea that the original Donkey Kong is Cranky Kong is a misconception from a fan theory. As of right now, all evidence provided by Nintendo points to both Donkey Kongs being the same individual. Here’s a few things to debunk the Cranky Kong theory: 1. Cranky Kong is Donkey Kong’s father in the Mario Movie, not his grandfather. 2. Pauline and Mario are both roughly the same age as they were in the original Donkey Kong game. - Miyamoto has stated that every Mario is the same person, so any theory that the Mario in Donkey Kong isn’t the same as in the rest of the series is debunked. I think this theory was made popular by a Game Theorists video, so I’d understand why people might think it’s true.

My thoughts & Theories Super Mario Kart: Only thing for this game I have to point out are Luigi, Koopa, & Yoshi could be a three way greenie showdown. Other than DK Jr & Toad(which I’ll assume is mutual) everything else is straight forward Super Circuit: Mario & DK are franchise rivals as well as generational and then there are the other spinoff games and Smash Bros prior. People often say DKC is better than 2D Mario and harder and I’m sure Cranky told modern DK about Mario prior to his Mushroom Kingdom debut plus they met in Yoshi Island DS and Mario Sluggers as babies. Then possibly setting up for Mario VS Donkey Kong a few years later. Peach vs Luigi is probably just a battle between best friends or for Mario’s attention 😂. Bowser, DK, & Wario naturally wouldn’t get along and are rivals in strength. Bowser hardly gets along with anyone and same for Wario. DK is more on the friend side with Mario so naturally it couldn’t work with the other two. DK and Wario went at it in Mario Party while in Mario Party 2 DK was ready to run Bowser’s fade 😂. Wario vs Luigi fits because Wario and Waluigi wants to beat them both so the other brother would be on the radar. Mario Kart 7: Daisy vs Wario is tied Mario Land games because Wario and Tatanga were acquaintances and he helped with Daisy’s kidnapping so he can sneak off to Mario’s castle. I can imagine Daisy finding that out having it out for Wario on top of the years of competition in other spin-offs. Bowser vs Rosalina like he said is interesting & makes sense tho considering Bowser has beef with every non bad guy I guess they chose Rosalina cause the Galaxy duology was not too long ago at the time. In some cases Nintendo didn’t want to go with the most obvious relationships at times which I guess why Mario doesn’t show up for Rosalina but Honey Queen & Toad do. Yoshi and Wiggler are neutral in my opinion but they both debut in Mario World and were on the same team as each other in Sluggers. Wiggler is not really a bad guy more just minds his own peace until he is disturbed so I don’t see a beef or any really big friendship just mutual rivalry with some history. Plus the reason he stated in the video. Peach vs DK apart from all the years of competition in spin-offs, Smash, and even the Olympics are more awkward as we saw in the Mario baseball interaction. DK is awkward around Peach and is known for kidnapping and finds her attractive and Peach who gets kidnapped a lot wants DK to take her seriously like he does with Mario, Bowser and the others. She gets annoyed with DK when he doesn’t which drives her to want to defeat DK in competition even more. As far Peach and Lakitu yeah I got nothing except the stereotypical Mushroom vs Koopa Kingdom Mario Kart 8: Most are straight forward as he covered & explained in the video tbh. I guess for Wario, Waluigi & Toadette does add to the secret friendship from Mario Party so interesting to see that develop. Baby Mario vs Bowser jr I guess the babies wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between Bowser Jr & Baby Bowser who they all fought. Nice to see Petey and King Boo are still friends after so many years so friendly rivalry as he said. I’m surprised they didn’t have Link vs Mario or Yoshi or even DK. Mario & Link are Nintendo’s to main protagonists and successful franchises for about 40 years and probably the most recognizable heroes in gaming history. Link and Yoshi as friends reference their team up in Subspace Emissary(I know it was Twilight Princess Link). And DK and Luigi because like Mario & Yoshi they have been in every Smash game together and they would be characters Link would be the most connected to as a result. Wendy vs Peach & Daisy started her beef of I guess jealousy which would come back in the Mario & Sonic series as he mentioned.

As I usually play Mario kart 8 deluxe as I remember, when I usually play as dry bones, there’s dry bowser and koopa troopa all the time. I think that waluigi and toadette relationship comes from the fact that both were introduced in sport games in order to fill the roster. Toadette in double dash and Waluigi in Mario Tennis.

Nice video! I, too, have always been curious to try and explain to myself the connections between the rivals in the system. Here’s a few that interested me not mentioned:
In MK7, for example, Metal Mario’s biggest rivals are Bowser and Rosalina (Mario acting as a third, which is understandable). I gotta hand it to Metal Mario for having an interesting rival pair, as I’d probably name those two as my rivals myself if I had to, but I’m curious why Metal Mario got that pairing.
In MK8, Wario’s rivals are the same as Luigi: Mario and Daisy. These two fit Luigi perfectly, but I’m not so sure about Wario. Mario I can understand, but does anyone have an explanation for why Daisy?
In addition, Lakitu also has no rivals in Mario Kart 8. And Toad has Waluigi as a rival in MK8, which was a pretty odd choice to me. Though I guess the latter is meant to mirror Toadette having Wario as a rival.
Even more interesting is that, Peachette’s rivals in MK8 Deluxe match Toadette’s, which I think is pretty explainable as to why.

As an avid Waluigi player before the booster pass 4 nerf, I always found it funny that Luigi and Toadette were always 2nd and 3rd place in my races. I didn’t know that this rivalry system existed before this video, but i definitely observed it in gameplay, because every Offline clip that I have has me beating or contending with a hard CPU Luigi outpacing the rest of the CPUs

When I think of the rival system in Super Mario Kart, I start to cry because when I was playing Super Mario Kart, I was playing as Luigi because he's my main in any Mario spin off, Yoshi was out for blood. And when I beaten the 100cc, I didn't even know there was a 150cc and I decided to play it and oh my god, thank god I was playing Super Mario Kart VIA the Nintendo Switch Online serice so I was able to get through it.

In terms of the Peach and DK rivalry, there actually was one time in which Peach substituted for Pauline, that being Game and Watch Gallery 2 and 4 where the Modern version of the DK game had Peach in that very role.
Lakitu also does not have any rivals in 8 Deluxe. So him, Link and Mii. It should be noted that King Boo did not have any rivals prior to Petey Piranha's addition in Wave 5. For those who did not purchase the booster course pass, King Boo remains rival-less in single player.
I honestly really like the idea of Toadette being friends with Waluigi and Wario. It seems oddly sweet to me. I just like the idea of them going to a cafe on the weekend to talk about work and the people around them.
What i find pretty weird is wiggler not having a rivalry with bowser that would have been such a good nod to the mario and luigi series

Actually, Yoshi being a rival to Wiggler might be a reference to the Super Mario World cartoon! In the monumental episode where Luigi recounts the story of how he found Yoshi for the first time (that's right baby, Mama Luigi), he mentions that Yoshi, immediately after being born, saved him from a gang of angry Wigglers by eating them all. Perhaps that's the inspiration!

I can attest the rivalry of Yoshi and wiggler in mk7, but toad was the main rival. I would always play Yoshi, and I can remember a game where wiggler kamikazed me so toad could pass me at the last second and I was so mad

So basically the TLDR for both MK8 and Deluxe is to pick Link or your Mii sense you'll have an easier time in the grand prix courses.
As someone who's played both, not exactly.
It'll just make the challenging AIs random characters, not preset ones, so you'll get a more random mix like Luigi, Yoshi and Kamek etc.
Note: I mention 3 names, since in those two games, only 3 CPUs stay close to you, the other 8 are set to be in the middle or back (basically rubbish AI and unrealistic compared to online, where everyone is much closer).
Still kinda weird how Bowser Jr and Diddy Kong weren’t rivals for each other in an update to 8DX once Diddy was added since they are friends/rivals with each other
I still don't understand why Yoshi's two biggest rivals in 7 & 8 have been Toad & Donkey Kong. I don't see any connections whatsoever (NO, Dashie doesn't count since that's after the fact), and quite frankly, I began to find Toad & Donkey Kong very annoying because I'm apparently not allowed to play as my favourite character in Grand Prix without them appearing all the time and in podium position over 90% of the time. I know for a fact that this is due to the demo version of the original Mario Kart 8 sticking the first twelve characters in guaranteed rival arrangements, but there was no excuse to not make any changes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I should feel at least some solace that Yoshi is one of the best characters for the second time in the series after Mario Kart 64, but I wish Nintendo would let Yoshi have something interesting or meaningful more often without always defaulting to Yoshi's Island theming.

The idea that the original Donkey Kong is Cranky Kong is a misconception from a fan theory. As of right now, all evidence provided by Nintendo points to both Donkey Kongs being the same individual. Here’s a few things to debunk the Cranky Kong theory:
1. Cranky Kong is Donkey Kong’s father in the Mario Movie, not his grandfather.
2. Pauline and Mario are both roughly the same age as they were in the original Donkey Kong game.
- Miyamoto has stated that every Mario is the same person, so any theory that the Mario in Donkey Kong isn’t the same as in the rest of the series is debunked.
I think this theory was made popular by a Game Theorists video, so I’d understand why people might think it’s true.

My thoughts & Theories
Super Mario Kart: Only thing for this game I have to point out are Luigi, Koopa, & Yoshi could be a three way greenie showdown. Other than DK Jr & Toad(which I’ll assume is mutual) everything else is straight forward
Super Circuit: Mario & DK are franchise rivals as well as generational and then there are the other spinoff games and Smash Bros prior. People often say DKC is better than 2D Mario and harder and I’m sure Cranky told modern DK about Mario prior to his Mushroom Kingdom debut plus they met in Yoshi Island DS and Mario Sluggers as babies. Then possibly setting up for Mario VS Donkey Kong a few years later. Peach vs Luigi is probably just a battle between best friends or for Mario’s attention 😂. Bowser, DK, & Wario naturally wouldn’t get along and are rivals in strength. Bowser hardly gets along with anyone and same for Wario. DK is more on the friend side with Mario so naturally it couldn’t work with the other two. DK and Wario went at it in Mario Party while in Mario Party 2 DK was ready to run Bowser’s fade 😂. Wario vs Luigi fits because Wario and Waluigi wants to beat them both so the other brother would be on the radar.
Mario Kart 7: Daisy vs Wario is tied Mario Land games because Wario and Tatanga were acquaintances and he helped with Daisy’s kidnapping so he can sneak off to Mario’s castle. I can imagine Daisy finding that out having it out for Wario on top of the years of competition in other spin-offs. Bowser vs Rosalina like he said is interesting & makes sense tho considering Bowser has beef with every non bad guy I guess they chose Rosalina cause the Galaxy duology was not too long ago at the time. In some cases Nintendo didn’t want to go with the most obvious relationships at times which I guess why Mario doesn’t show up for Rosalina but Honey Queen & Toad do. Yoshi and Wiggler are neutral in my opinion but they both debut in Mario World and were on the same team as each other in Sluggers. Wiggler is not really a bad guy more just minds his own peace until he is disturbed so I don’t see a beef or any really big friendship just mutual rivalry with some history. Plus the reason he stated in the video. Peach vs DK apart from all the years of competition in spin-offs, Smash, and even the Olympics are more awkward as we saw in the Mario baseball interaction. DK is awkward around Peach and is known for kidnapping and finds her attractive and Peach who gets kidnapped a lot wants DK to take her seriously like he does with Mario, Bowser and the others. She gets annoyed with DK when he doesn’t which drives her to want to defeat DK in competition even more. As far Peach and Lakitu yeah I got nothing except the stereotypical Mushroom vs Koopa Kingdom
Mario Kart 8: Most are straight forward as he covered & explained in the video tbh. I guess for Wario, Waluigi & Toadette does add to the secret friendship from Mario Party so interesting to see that develop. Baby Mario vs Bowser jr I guess the babies wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between Bowser Jr & Baby Bowser who they all fought. Nice to see Petey and King Boo are still friends after so many years so friendly rivalry as he said. I’m surprised they didn’t have Link vs Mario or Yoshi or even DK. Mario & Link are Nintendo’s to main protagonists and successful franchises for about 40 years and probably the most recognizable heroes in gaming history. Link and Yoshi as friends reference their team up in Subspace Emissary(I know it was Twilight Princess Link). And DK and Luigi because like Mario & Yoshi they have been in every Smash game together and they would be characters Link would be the most connected to as a result. Wendy vs Peach & Daisy started her beef of I guess jealousy which would come back in the Mario & Sonic series as he mentioned.
It wuold be cool that daisy had an one sided rivalry with Rosalina thanks to her experience with tatanga the alien before
