    I use 2 phones in my car. I use 1 phone for Lyft and Uber. My other phone I use to get home by using Waze when I am coming home from a long ride! My second phone has no plan on it. I use my hotspot to connect my 2nd phone with Wifi.

    Greeting Harry. Started Uber in July 2015 driving with TRACFONE. Then got Sprint Prepaid, then Boost,. Now with METRO PCS. I have a TRACFONE back up phone because TRACFONE network is a great. When my Metro phone freezes when I am on Lyft, I open Lyft on the TRACFONE and I’m able to continue on Lyft. In certain rural areas, I cant connect to Uber or Lyft, so I use the TRACFONE. The price per month is very cheap and I used a $30 phone from Kroger to use for Uber.
    This video was before I started subscribing.

    I use the 2 phone system. Uber Driver/Rider on one and Lyft Driver/Rider on the other. I got caught too many times accepting and turning off the other in time and ended up with declines or timeouts. For me it is only $15 a month for the second phone. I also use a godaddy line assigned to my primary number for that customers can call they if they need to reach me. I did the godaddy line because of the numerous robo call girl calls trying to sell stuff that blows.

    No other phone (or two phones) comes close to Samsung!!.I use a Samsung Note 5 for it's large screen & multi tasking. I use Google Maps and Tunein (to listen to my podcasts)in split screen at the same time I minimize Uber & Lyft into 1"x2" mini apps ontop of my Maps then I go offline from the opposite app when I taking a request. I noticed I'm making at least $100+ from when I was using the Pixel or two phones.

    I bought a one year old lgv20 phone for $235 in one shot. Uber charges you $520 a year if they charge you $10 a week. If you are paying weekly for phones you are way over paying. At least pay for phones monthly if you can't pay in full.

    I used the uber passenger app and I had no idea where the drivers where coming from in the app. I didn't know until I got a ride and asked where they came from.

    I was able to jump on a deal when t-mobile was offering a free tablet with 6 GB/month for free while on a family plan. I use the tablet to run the uber driver app, GPS, and play Spotify, while I use my phone to check other drivers' locations on the uber passenger app, check my earnings through the uber driver app, the phone (obviously), and I control Spotify on the tablet remotely from my phone and sometimes hand passengers my phone to select music if they want to. Of course I use discretion on who I hand my phone to based on whether I think they are trustworthy.

    I use a two-phone setup, but my reasoning is different. I run the Uber & Lyft apps on my main phone and bluetooth tether it to the secondary phone which runs the Square app; Flight Info app; and any social media apps that I may want to use while the main phone deals exclusively with Lyft, Uber and GPS. My secondary phone was free and I didn't activate it, so there are no additional data plans and phone numbers involved in the setup. I update the apps on it only when I connect to home wifi to save data use. NOTE: Running Square on the second phone allows Uber passengers who "have no cash" to TIP seamlessly at the end of the ride. (no critical tip-killing pause to setup the main phone for credit card swipe or chip reader) BIG ADDED VALUE!

    Hello! I've watched some of your videos about Uber and I really think they are super helpful for new driver like me. I just have some questions: "have you ever experienced someone calling to your cellphone while using the app (GPS)? How you deal with it? do you think i will affect the driver's rating?
    Wish you best of luck!

      +Toan Diep Yes it happens all the time! Just silence it/ignore it quickly - your phone should have a button that allows you to do this one tap. My Android LG G3 also has a do not disturb mode that works well.

    My research indicates that GPS requires data, so it doesn't look like a tethered phone can be used with the driver apps.
    However, if you are in a market that has limited passengers on a particular service, then probably ok with a second phone, so you can have that always running. Saturated markets mean always going unavailable, which could be a hassle.
    Another reason for a second phone, is, like you said, you have a need to view personal info more easier, and use another phone specific to driving. If anyone asks, call it your baby monitor! :)

    • @Therideshareguy
      @Therideshareguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Aaron Pewtherer Yes tethering the phone would still use data but one large data plan is generally cheaper than two equivalent small ones :)

      Hi Tripp, Uber does allow for retroactive referrals within 15 days of activation so if you didn’t sign up with a referral code, you can contact Uber through the driver app to get it added. Go to Account-> Help-> Payments and Rewards-> Driver Referrals -> Report a missing driver referral.
      They may also ask for:
      Name: Harry Campbell
      Uber e-mail: harry@therideshareguy.com
      Uber phone #: 310-428-2765

    Hey Guys- I use a phone and tether a Samsung tablet. The tab gives me much more Map real estate. This makes navigating sooooo much easier. I use the phone as the Rider watch app and use it to make calls and text. BTW you can text through the Uber app. Go to the high right corner and hit the button that looks like a flag. It opens a new screen with the cancel and contact options. Hit contact and you can send a text. I have premade texts to paste in. Late night I'll always call.....

      Not true on the 25%. They often take over 50%. They will also not pay you on disputed. They are the most unethical companies around. Do not make this a profession. Ok for extra cash.

    Wondering if you could address an issue I'm concerned about... I have a 2010 Jeep Commander with the 3rd row available... I am an UberXL and Lyft-Plus driver. (I've bee driving for only 3 weeks.) I'm concerned that I will receive a ride request for 6-7 passengers and not have enough room for luggage if they are headed to the airport... (Or returning from the airport.) When my 3rd row is unfolded, there is only about a foot of space... I've thought about a roof-top cargo rack/basket as a solution, do you have any thoughts? Does Uber/Lyft suggest to the rider before making their selection that if they have luggage as well they might need UberSUV or something else? Thanks for all of your helpful VLOGS!!!

    • @Therideshareguy
      @Therideshareguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Haman Hmm that is a good question. I think the responsibility lies with the pax though since obviously if you have a ton of luggage and 6-7 people that wouldn't fit into any car really. I'd play it by ear and see what happens as I suspect this would be a very rare situation.

    • @JeffBrown518
      @JeffBrown518 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You could attach some ropes to the rear bumper and then tie their luggage to the ropes and drag it behind you as you drive.

    Hey just went through getting a 2nd phone for Ubering (my primary phone is a BlackBerry, which does not run the driver app unless you sideload it. Too important for me to sideload, it think). I got a brand new MotoX off Amazon for $299, unlocked. Make sure the phone is designed to work with whatever network you're on (CDMA vs. GSM), that's the only gotcha. I had AT&T, so I got a GSM and went down to the AT&T store, where they wanted $60 more per month to add it to my existing family plan. That seemed high, so I went to a second AT&T store, where they added it to the same plan for only $15 more per month. I don't know why that is, and I didn't know you could do this, but apparently you can shop around between AT&T stores and get different prices!

    My tablet will open both apps easily and I can position myself accordingly. I don't need 2 phones. It's better for both Uber and Lyft so that available cars are placed properly when you think about it. It's helped me a lot. Most mornings there are no cars North, East, West etc., whatever all you need is to be just a little outside the circle. I have also seen times when even when a bunch of cars are close we all get booked in 2 min., and that was cool.
