    Awesome! Also a quick tip for people like me that didn't want to ruin a texture palette: I just put the paint on a regular palette and then just start swiping the brush on the top right corner of my texture palette. I got less grainy results from this method than using a paper towel and it doesn't clog up the detail on the texture palette as fast as putting the paint directly on it. I use the other 3/4 of the palette for checking that I have the right amount on my brush or to test colors.

      @ArtisOpus  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're so much smaller! With GW's scale-creep ever noticeable (it's part of why the new space marines paint so well) whenever I drop down a size to other ranges it takes me some real adjustment! They're also more fiddly and less resilient generally, I love plastics and some chunky resins for the D generally speaking.

    I have a couple of questions:
    1. What is your favourite colour to paint with? You use purple a lot for basing, is it that?
    2. Dry brushing has for a long time been seen as an intermediate technique that seems to be a bit of a stop gap between learning how to highlight quickly and moving on to more advanced techniques (at least that’s how its seen in my hobby group i am in), how and why did you decide to take dry brushing to the next level?
    I’ve been watching all your videos since you started the channel and it has drastically changed the way I paint a lot of models now, really looking to improve my dry brushing and stippling game, still got a long way to go I feel! Want to get some of your brushed and a texture palette, but I can’t get them easily where I am at the moment unfortunately.

      Obviously, I'm not Byron but I think purple is an AWESOME shadow color. Looks great as the shadows for most blues, greens, and even reds from my experience. Not saying that it is always super realistic but it has a nice aesthetic to it and a dark purple on minis can look 'black' without having the actual darkness of black if that makes any sense. It's kind of similar how we never use true white for eyes and typically just true white as a highlight for white objects as they kind of touched upon in their painting white video. I may also be biased as purple is my favorite color.

      correct me if i'm wrong but apparently i've been told that their "dry brush" isn't necessary a dry brush because the hair in the centre is more film while the surrounding hair is soft, its like a paint brush, dry-brush hybrid, it can do both dependant on the pressure. (i hold this could help, again please correct me if i'm wrong)

    Great to see a paint option without the air brush thank you. 👌
    Suggestion would be paint techniques. Such as dry brushing mentioned here. Some others would be Gradient's that we see on clothing all the time. So I guess that would be Wet blending? Or Use of contrast/layer paints?
    Or even paint brush technique's. What is to much paint? How to hold your brush? Direction of paint strokes etc. I see some people pull and twist the brush? think this is to protect the tip?
    You have described before about moving the paint with a clean brush etc. So yeah useful tips like that are great! 👍

    What about a video on common mistakes and how to avoid them? I know you mention some things during videos but it would be good to have them all in one place. I got my brush claggy the last time and not sure if it was down to not using the texture pad enough or the dampening pad enough. There's great nuggets of information in the videos but it's easy to miss them.

  • @kaibe5241
    @kaibe5241 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've always been quite against drybrushing on things like armour plates, but these videos and those brushes have changed my mind. The effect isn't as harsh as drybrushing as historically been, and seems to really lend itself well to the grimdark paint style that many (myself included) really like.
    I've actually bought a series of AO brushes this past week so that I can give the technique a go on my space wolves :)

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your support and kind words, Kai!
      It definitely really does lend itself to the style... I really have issues pulling Grim Dark off myself consistently, which is frustrating when I know the two could hold hands so nicely!
      Once they've arrived and you've had a play I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts, if you have any tips for combining the both, I've always admired GD stuff so much. Let us know in another vid, YT is awful for ongoing conversation notification!

    First off, that yellow is beautiful. I'm becoming obsessed with these videos, you have such a talent and eye for colours. I learn so much. Second, I don't warame but I love GW minis and by far my favourites are Squigs. I remember trying to paint them years and years ago. They look deceptively simple to paint but they aren't. Mine turned out a total mess and I never tried again. I'd love to see you tackle Squigs.

    Always blown away by what you do with drybrushing, especially your edge highlights! Do you find a round drybrush better than a flat one?

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, round works from every direction! Ours last forever, and don't splay, so you can do high quality work for much longer, when they get tired after a couple of years they are still good for stippling, too :)

But I really like you style and I want to lean more. I just finish a squad of Marines with you style and they look amazing. I look it to buy you D serie brushes.

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries dude, we didn't take it that way! As we said before I think all painting techniques share a lot more than many people realise, one of our goals for the channel is to help people learn this, and have more fun applying what they've learned!
      Could you show us your squad on social media? I'd love to see them!

    • @ep1kone
      @ep1kone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just about this - I’ve got the D series after watching these videos, but have been testing techniques just using some normal foam (like from the blister packs) for wetting, some cheap makeup brushes to replace D series, and box cardboard for texture pad. The cardboard wastes more paint than the texture pad, but small corregations give you a great feel like your hand. Great way to learn for cheap - but the Artis stuff is just mint, even lovely siting on the table. It’s almost a shame painting with them.
