I wish she would do more work on her content; when she has a full hour set I'll come back but she fills a solid 1/3 to half of her shows with crowd work, which cool at clubs and shit but that's not what a special is, a special is purely your own content. Thought her last tour for her latest special would finally put her to that caliber but still not there, was disappointed to not watch the special before going to see the show and paying good money for what really was the worth of a comedy show in a club, not a theater doing her special. Oh well, wish her the best and think she can get there, I do like her actual content so I'll definitely revisit in the future.

I loathe crowdwork, both as a viewer and a sometimes-comic myself.
I want to know what the act thinks/knows/does, not the profession of some random in the crowd. Cut the crap and joke, or just get off stage

The introduction of the podcast format has transformed the entertainment industry in a way similar to the first Opera houses of Europe. Before Opera houses, the closest "commoners" got to a well organized entertainment production was an invite, if privileged and fortunate enough to get one, to a Lord or Kings court arrangement.
What podcasts have done for the comedy scene has provided a cheap access to the lives of the hosts and guests, and the intimate conversations provide insight into the personal lives and professional experiences of those in the scene in a way which isn't available at live shows.

I love seeing two of my favorite comedians talking about mental health. I also have bipolar II and grew up with a narcissistic father who straight up told me he didn’t love me. It might sound so weird to talk about, but honestly, if you can’t laugh about your traumas (while trying to work on it, obviously) I think it can slowly kill you. Laughter isn’t the best medicine (klonopin is really great) but it’s so, so helpful for coping. Would love to see an episode with Maria Bamford

Anxiety makes u so self aware and try harder
Depression is the depths of of my self aware and empathetic heart. Depression is realizing the child u love most most in the world doesn’t love u when u gave her the world and sacraficed ur whole life for and when ur at ur lowest and she sits there and tells u how bad her (freaking good) life is and blames you when all u want is a hug and then resents u and has the balls to hint that I could’ve been abusive when I shielded her from abuse her whole life so that she could figure out who she was and I’d always be ok with it and support and live her and that I am her safe place to land. Everything is figure-out-able. But at my worst that person “kicked” me at my lowest point. And to realize that person doesn’t love u back like u love them even when u are just asking for a hug….that’s depression to me! And an experience I lived also. Saddest thing when u realize no one loves u.

The hardest part of it is feeling like people who know this about you will hold it against you or judge you by it in every situation - “oh you’re upset about what I happened? Wow this podcast actually did more for me than years of therapy. My mom died of cancer when I was 10 after a long illness. I always felt like I was that kid who experienced "the worst that could happen." I would always think to myself - "wow that would really suck if that were to happen" and then it would. I was anxious before then (thanks intergenerational trauma) but my anxiety and panic exploded after she died. I knew that was a triggering event but something clicked when Neal and Taylor directly linked that to catastrophic anxious thoughts.

It was awesome to see this vulnerable side of Taylor. Her specials are some of the funniest I’ve ever seen, and I recommend them to a lot of people. Thank you for sharing, and reminding us that there is no normal and we’re all kinda broken.

I’m so happy I found this podcast it’s great to see celebrities speak openly about mental health issues it’s such a relief compared to other podcasts where people just talk about bullshit. Neal please continue because it’s really helpful for people like me and I’m sure it is for other people with mental health issues.

Effortlessly endearing and intelligent. Great fit for the podcast, sincerely feel she has the potential to become one of the greats. On the other hand I hope she finds what she's looking for, balance and peace and fulfillment, even if it means less focusing on achieving comedic greatness. Crossing my fingers everything falls into place for her.
Neil, the editing is top tier, hope this gem of a podcast gets greater exposure. You go deep into subjects worth going deep into, and these conversations are just invaluable. Especially if they find someone at just the right time. Thank you.
