English is not my first language, and I still understood all of your directions. I thought they were clear and straightforward. I found really helpful that they were written since sometimes I can't keep up with people's accents on English. It's such a simple sweater I don't really find necessary a 30-minute video of you repeating the same stuff. On a side note, I thought it was very clever to measure your dog first and then stick to those measurements instead of trying to follow a size that your dog may not fit in in the end. Anyway, I really liked this video, and I'm heading to part two to figure out the rest! I'm so excited to see how this will look on my girl!

Thanks for making this Laura! I made sweater for my dog today with this video. It was easy once I figured out the instructions. Some of it was a little confusing but I got what you meant after doing it myself and comparing to what you had on screen. I think your pattern is awesome. One suggestion is to slow the video down when starting a new instruction rather than speeding it up immediately. Maybe do 4-5 stitches of that row slower and then you can speed up like you're doing. I'm sure your newer videos are even better now since this one's pretty old

Instructions. Step 1: Measure your dog around his neck, chest and the smallest part of his waist. Step 2: Create a slip knot and then chain stitch until the chain is as long as the neck measure. Step 3: Turn your work. Chain one single crochet into the BACK loop of the chain only. Step 4: Turn your work. Chain one. Single crochet into the BACK loop of the second chain only. FYI - complete 4 rows total of ½ double crochet stitches into the back loop of each stitch. Step 5: Confirm the ribbed collar is long enough, then single crochet it together at the ends. Step 6: With your new colour, attach to your project, chain 2, then do 1 round of ½ double crochet. Step 7: Join the round, chain 2, ½ double crochet second round, (increase by 2 stitches - 1 per side). FYI - to keep your increases even, mark the stitch with contrasting yarn. FYI - to increase your stitches, do 2 ½ double crochet stitches in one hole. Step 8: Join the round, chain 2, ½ double crochet 2 more rounds (increase by 2 stitches - 1 per side). Not sure of any caught it too, but the collar was done with single crochet stitches. There was an 'FYI' in one of the boxes that said half double crochet 4 rows. I didnt see any half double crochets. Otherwise, great free pattern tutorial! Thank you 😊

Try putting your hand on top of his head, then squeeze from outside in softly on his head. Use 1 hand. The warmth of your hand is soothing and it actually helps if they are in pain or need to relax. My baby had lotsa pain and I found it helped... then i found it helped her when she was upset or nervous. I have a chiwhip now and he loves it too. I started with my mini cockers in 94.

I'm a bit confused. On step 4, it says to do single crochets into the back loops, then an FYI pops up and says 4 total rows with half double crochet. So is it 2 rows of the single crochet and 2 more rows of half double crochet before reaching step 5?

I'm looking forward to trying this for out little chihuahua/pug. Her old sweater is literally thread bare in her poor girl. I can only hope as I go along that it fits her. I've tried many and none have I been excited about except one that got shredded, poor guy.

So I'm struggling a little bit. I made my starting chain to fit my dogs neck but when I turn and finish my first row of single crochet it's too short by at least a few inches :/ how much longer than her neck width should I make it?
Sure does Frances! You just need to start with the correct measurement for the neck, then the increases will match up to the size of the dog. Good luck! :)

My dog didn't like the measurements but she needs a sweater because it winter in Arizona and she doesn't understand the fact a blanket will keep her warm until she's under it

Do I increase every two stitches or increase every other or do I increase 2 times in total the whole round
2 total I believe, so one where the sides were joined and one across from that

I'm looking forward to trying this for out little chihuahua/pug. Her old sweater is literally thread bare in her poor girl. I can only hope as I go along that it fits her. I've tried many and none have I been excited about except one that got shredded, poor guy.
Oh my goodness! Your chihuahua is so darn cute! I "liked" before even starting. So I have female chihuahua and she's really hard to get ready-made doggie clothes to fit. She has a large bust/chest, Lol! So I've thought I need to just figure out how to make something for her myself. I'm creative in most other ways. I think I crocheted as a kid and did a pot holder, lol! So I searched and your video came up first and I love it. Wish me luck.

What do u mean by "1 per side" when you say to add 2 stitches ?
so I mean, "do an increase at each end of the row" It is worded weird in the video, my bad. I hope that this helps.

So I'm struggling a little bit. I made my starting chain to fit my dogs neck but when I turn and finish my first row of single crochet it's too short by at least a few inches :/ how much longer than her neck width should I make it?

Was I supposed to finish step 4 and THEN do 4 rows of 1/2 double crochet or was it just a typo 0-0 ? Sorry I'm bad at following directions :( .
i was confused here too. just continue doing single crochet and you should end up with four rows of it. im pretty sure it was a typo.
