    I loved Trackers, but couldn't get to grips with making music. However, to keep connected to the scene, I started putting out PD samples under the name "Hash Cake 77." . I was using an Aura sampling cartridge. I can't remember how it happened, but I ended up doing official samples for Octamed. Didn't last long as by the late 90s, folks were migrating to PC. I still love watching anything tracker or octamed related

    I use Amigo at 12bit sounds crunchy like the old Amiga sound, I also have Akaizer to add other fx for even more crunch, time stretch so its nearly dead on.

    The method I use to automate parameters is right clicking on a particular parameter on a device/effect etc. Then the current value that parameter is set to will populate the column in a track. I do it this way as I find the automation graphic editor very fiddly, the shapes I draw always get messed up somehow and I have to go back over them quite often to make corrections. Regarding the plugin sound, I think it's great - not as crunchy as an Amiga but sounds closer to the S3200.

    The Amiga version sounds more driven to me, you can hear the snare tails are louder. Maybe some additional clipping could remedy it to an extent. But the Amiga is also more tonal / midrangey. Interesting. For some applications the flatter sound of Amigo may actually work better in the mix. Like if you’re layering a break that isn’t your main break

    Didn't expect such a big difference soundwise. WinUAE e.g. is so good at emulating the Paula sound that I couldn't tell the difference (compared to my 500). So obviously it can be done better.

    It would be interesting if you could make a high-quality recording of the Amiga's impulse response, and then use that with a convolver plugin following the Amigo.
    The simplest way to capture the IR would probably to be to play an audio file which contains a peak which is one sample in length at the highest pitch on the Amiga.
    If the result is useful, you could perhaps consider publishing the IR for others to use as well.

      @@dariopotenza3962 OK cool. Well, both Roger Linn and Oberheim used u-law in their 8-bit drum machines IIRC. Perhaps something to consider if you want more flavors. Anyhow, I noticed the loop points start clicking after resampling. Probably because the waveform changed a little and the points are no longer at zero crossings. Maybe recalc the zero crossing position and adjust the loop point after each sample rate change? My guess you can probably find a new zero crossing close the where the loop point is, so within +/- a few samples?

    It’s another tool to use, it ain’t gonna replace a decent hardware sampler as it has about 5% of the functionality of one.

    Software samplers are a mess, if you just see them as a bit of fun and get one instead of a take away on a Saturday nite then thats fine.
    If you want a real samplers get an old Akai.

    • @bazooka4dakill
      @bazooka4dakill หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah its a good tool to use but no software can compare against hardware as its the Converters which makes the sound. As i said before you cant compare it to the real Amiga Hardware but its a cool tool to use as you can use it on all kind of samples and not just on fat drums. It def. has its place to be there and for a tenner its more than fair. I bought it just to support them.

  • @farben_
    @farben_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    No it doesn't sound like an Amiga, it doesn't have that crunchiness that was common on the Paula chip. I like the plugin but I don't think it's possible to emulate that stuff with software on the computer, it never sounds the same, people think it sounds the same... like you pointed out it does sound somewhat weird, if they can improve the sound it's a really good plugin to have around. On Renoise you can't drag a sample into a plugin like you can on any other DAW so it would be useful if the sample loading was better than it is right now.

      @atetraxx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      haha. i wouldnt say it doesnt sound like an amiga.. it certainly does. Pretty fuckin close actually. Is it exact? no, but its pretty close and really fuckign cool. I mean stekker would know, he uses amiga to produce a lot of his own music. If i'd trust anyone to make a plugin like this its him.
      Also, yes its possible to emulate that stuff. You've never messed with the pt2clone?

    • @farben_
      @farben_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@atetraxx You can try to emulate a chip but there' a lot of factors that add up. I've done tons of sampling on the Amiga since I was a kid, still have my Amiga sampler here. I bought the plugin mainly to support the effort and hopefully it keeps getting new releases.

      I agree the Amiga sounds way more "ballsy" and the Amigo more "middy". If you listen at position 2.55min you can clearly hear it, the snares sound wack. However functions like "Chord" are clearly taken from the "Juno"(Chord Memory) and not the Amiga. Also the Akai Timestretch obviously has nothing to do with the Amiga. Maybe whats mostly "Amiga*ish" is - is the Protracker Layout they ripped off for this plug in ? ;) But i think you can use it on lots of other instruments than Drums and therefore its cool. What would be interesting to hear is how it sounds IF you sample directly from the Amiga and use that Drumloop instead of sampling from a CD Source. Then it should sound the same. If not then they should rework the soundengine ;)
