Went in Sept 2016, was able to walk I felt like most of Dublin, I suppose. Great time at Temple bar area. I remember liking the Palace bar nearby. Thanks for your insight. New subscriber!

Temple Bar is only popular with tourists because it was specifically manufactured for them by Dublin City Council in the 1990s. You won't find any locals there, except perhaps for the pickpockets. How do I know this? Because I used to work there in a studio before we were kicked out to make way for the moneygouging tourist traps. Even the cobblestoned streets were manufactured by removing them from the Northside of the city.

We loved Ireland. But not Temple bar. We had locals warning us over and over don't go. Two of the people with us went and for 2 pints of guiness was $57.
Don't waste your money. Dublin has a pub at every turn. Pick any of them. They're really great 👍

Average pint in Temple Bar is about 9 or 10 euro, not 26 euro. Yes, pints at Temple Bar are higher than Dublin average, but that is the cost of admission to this entertaining district. You can get a 5 euro pint at a normal pub in town, but not with that lively street scene.

Templebar is a tourist trap, locals do not drink there.

I remember this place before it was turned into a tourist haunt designed especially for to rip off tourists. Drinks there are double the price and food is also very expensive. Not typical of Irish Tradition Sessions. Its a rip off location ..Only locals that have won the lotto would think of wasting their money there. There are much nicer places.

Thank you for your local perspective. It is true Temple Bar is more expensive, but that the is the price of admission to this little entertainment hot spot, like a ticket at the door. A pint of Guiness, and a restaurant meal, are about 30% higher there, not exactly lottery level, and you get the entertainment for free.
There is no charge if you are just walking around, dropping into pubs and listening to music -- no cover charge anywhere. Sure you can find other music pubs in Dublin, but not in this concentration, and going all day long into the wee hours. I did make it clear, this is a place for tourists, who seem to love it.
I hope you watched towards the end where I showed old Temple Bar in 1992, with locals-only sitting in large groups on the sidewalk, with cars going by on the main lane.

In sum, your claim that drinks are double is wrong, not 100% more, but yes, 30% more, to be expected in any tourist area in the world.

A pint of beer is over 10 euro and can be got for 5 to 5.50 euro in other good traditional pubs..The music is also murdered through amplification with nobody listening. As a person that lives in Dublin I wouldn't go near the place if I was paid. This place was especially manufactured for the tourist and in particular the "yanks"...Another thing to bare in mind the prices of the drinks go up and up depending on the time of night. I remember one establishment nearby where American Tourists used to frequent the barman used to actually stand on the counter and harass Americans to buy drink as they walked in the door.
      .

OK. we got it already, you made your point, you don't have to go there. I'm sure you have many other favorite places with better prices and music, so you are most welcome to stay away from Temple Bar, but at the same time, show a little Irish hospitality for the tourist, who has money to spend and not much time or knowledge to find your watering holes. So they spend a few extra euro, walk around in this touristic, but very attractive place, like a little village in town, and enjoy the music. which in on all day in some of the pubs, very convenient.
As I say in the video "If you're looking for a tranquil evening in a quiet neighborhood, there are many other parts of Dublin that will make you happy. But if you're up for some fun, come on over to Temple Bar."
      and
"Then wander about and explore the area. Dublin has nearly 800 pubs to discover more per capita than any other city in the world."
And I take you to adjacent Dame Street, "a big, busy road with many restaurants such as Millstone, fine dining in an elegant setting at a reasonable price. For example, lunch is currently about 12 euro."
As a seasoned traveler who has frequently been to Dublin, and most other popular cities of Europe, I enjoy Temple Bar very much and encourage other visitors to give it a try.

@@denniscallan great video! I’ve been to Dublin once, and asked the taxi driver to drop us off at Temple Bar area and he tried to talk us out of it, saying it’s not “the real Dublin”. While I can appreciate what he was trying to tell us, I wanted to experience what I wanted.
As an American, we work hard to spend our money on vacations to experience the ‘must see’ touristic places and I was pleased with my experience in Dublin. I’d love to go back and see the “local” side of Dublin one day.
That said, I’d never discourage a tourist vacationing in Southern California to not do something even if I thought it was a sketchy area (e.g., Hollywood). I’d warn them they’d see homeless camps and 💩 on the street though 😂
