I actually think this is the best video so far on your channel, and I've watched all of them, many multiple times. The bit at the end with different pubs was brilliant, and could legit be used by someone like Failte Ireland.
Enjoying the new content mate. Didn’t just watch you just for the Guinness stuff as you always seemed like a sound lad with decent crack - which is why I will continue to watch your videos. You took a risk and ventured off the beaten path to go in a new direction, but it was the right choice since you said you weren’t happy doing what you were doing. You’re definitely a natural at this and will go from strength to strength - looking forward to see where the channel goes!
I lived in Dublin for five years and totally agree with this advice. Good to experience Temple Bar as a tourist but go see the more authentic parts. Was back in those three recommended pubs on my visit earlier this month. Keep up the good work.
Maybe a cool video idea would be to show tourists coming to Dublin your favourite pubs where you can really party / have a great time. Dont get me wrong, I totally understand any criticism of the Temple Bar, but when I fly to Dublin with three mates and we arrive at lunchtime we want to have a great time :D. Having a few pints in Mulligans or Bowes is certainly on the agenda, but in pubs without music and with an older crowd, the fun factor takes a back seat. That's why I love the Dublin live music scene, the trad music scene in particular. But especially in the early afternoons the Temple Bar is almost without alternative for us.
@@benmcmullan718 Above all, he tells us where to get a good pint of Guinness. Not necessarily where there is good live music etc or where he would go not only for good Guinness but also for a "party atmosphere", which I find would be a great video idea.
what I did earlier this month when I visited Dublin: get your pics in front of the Temple Bar just so people know you went there, then have your pint of Guinness at the Palace Bar a few metres east at 6.90
Just visited Dublin, kept running into a place called The Bankers at the edge of the Temple Bar area. Had some tourists like myself and some locals too. Pint was 6,40, I think. The Bankers was nicely busy, not too crowded but far from dead too, good craic!
I have to say I was skeptical about how successful the new style of content would be. But it's such a refreshing change, like the shackles have been removed and you have a new lease of life. Keep up the good work!!
I get it. It's like going to New Orleans and just doing Bourbon Street. The locals wouldn't be caught dead, but if you're a tourist, you aren't going to miss it.
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! Thanks for giving head to head prices… I am going to Ireland for 87 days!!! I will skip the Temple bar and support the other Pubs being fair to their Patrons…
Went 3 years ago and it was expensive. Then I went in May and I couldn’t believe the price. I had the classic Guinness then the partner had a gunpowder gin and lemonade and it came to €21. I’ve kept the receipt to remind me of the heartache
I went in here last year for the craic, asked for a Beamish and the head on the thing extended down beyond the logo, I was shocked and appalled. Obviously they know the vast majority of their clientele are foreign and either don't know or don't want to complain about the standard
I was a regular visitor to Dublin before covid. I only visited the Temple Bar pub once on my first visit, and I never went back. I found pubs further away from the temple bar where slightly cheaper
Hey Daragh, I’m a travel consultant in Niagara Falls Canada and we have some proud Guinness pubs here. Come out for a trip it would make for some awesome videos, it’s a ton of fun here. I could build the itinerary for you here in Niagara and Toronto.
Well said. It's about time the whole street on Temple bar was shamed. Dublin used to be a fantastic place for a pint. But I'll be honest, the prices are getting stupid now. I actually prefer Belfast now. Less tourism, cheaper and the Guinness is just as good.
I took a nice photo of the temple bar pub, but had my touristy jars in Darkey Kelly's, they had nice music in there and a decent pint, it was busy. The Christ church nearby was a nice bit of culture to visit. I enjoyed my working trip to Dublin❤
Damn... we must have missed the Guru. We went to Bowes and Mulligans on my birthday on 20th of July. We are from Germany and knew becouse of the videos from Daragh, that these are the spots for the creamiest of the Black Stoff. ;) Loved it. Thants for that Daragh. Wish I could be back there. Love Ireland.
I used to work in bars in the busy 1990's. Even back then I knew all this was coming to a close. The bars were rammed, people were spending a fortune, getting wasted, there was a loud band playing, and the bar was always 3-4 rows deep. I used to look around and think "A generation is going to come along who won't put up with this". That generation is now. Remember, our wages were a lot less, so even €4 a drink was very expensive. Its never been cheap to go drinking.
Another banger video. Was in Dublin in April and walked all over Temple Bar area and never went into the Temple Bar pub. The Palace was amazing. Bowe’s was classic. The Stag’s Head was phenomenal. You go the the TB pub to party w other tourists and that’s it. You want something of a real Irish experience, go to the other pubs.
As a Diageo investor, I don't mind 😄 As an Englishman in a relationship with a Dubliner, I understand the tourist trap, but I still tend to frequent the area because it's a good laugh, love the live music, always great atmosphere, rarely have more than 3+ drinks though because of the expense. Can understand people getting upset with prices. But if you're made aware before hand, it's not so much of a shock. I really enjoy O'Neills by Molly Malone statue. Best Guinness served in there, downstairs bar.
I'm from Leitrim and I'd definitely recommend a visit , a night or 2 in Temple Bar . Mighty spot . Great music, friendly people and lovely old style pubs. Only downside is the price of drink but upside of that is u dont drink so much.
I think big groups of tourists struggle to get into many of the late night spots outside of temple bar area. A lot of British tourists see it as a strip like on spanish resorts.
I’ve only been to Dublin twice, I like the temple bar area as it’s got a great atmosphere, but I’ve never been tempted to go into the actual bar. There’s so many other good bars with live music and good Guinness.
NINE QUID, my god. Thankfully I only looked at this pub from the outside and, thanks to your previous videos, didn't bother getting a pint from here. Loved the video lad.
An excellent video. Just back from Dublin the day this was uploaded after being inspired to finally visit after watching your channel. Beautiful city and pub culture! Agree with The Temple Bar but one of the only places where the Guinness is flowing at 12:00PM mid week, a guaranteed seat with live music. Ended with a trip to The Gravediggers and a chat over a pint with Ciaran Kavanagh. A must visit for any Guinness drinker.
Temple Bar is where I used to go in my 20s I remember in 1995 it was £2.45 for the the bottles of beer(330ml) in Buskers, and Guinness was a little cheaper. Oh, and Temple Bar area gets its name from Temple Barre, and old French word for market or gathering place. And the pub named itself after the area.
This is 100% why The Temple Bar (The pub not the place) is always rammed full of tourists but with no locals. I live in London but have an Irish family & when they come here they don’t give a shit about going to central London & paying £8 a pint whereas they’d never do the same in central Dublin. I guess people’s attitudes are just different when they’re on holiday.
Been there - didn't enjoy that area for going to the pubs there. Toner's and The Liberty Belle were my favorite spots that I had the enjoyment of drinking at!
Love Dublin but this year we were priced out visiting due to the price of the hotels, we went to Belfast instead fantastic City but the Guinness was better in Dublin! Loads of better pubs than the temple bar tho!!
Aye, I started doing Belfast in 2016. Much cheaper and wider availability of Airbnbs. The "no trackkies" policy of some pubs was an absolute ballache though.
You see on Facebook people put up picture of a receipt from temple bar especially later on in the night and the price is shocking. It's about time that place was named and shamed, it's ridiculous how bad it Is.
Temple Bar area has been like that for 20 years. The best place in temple bar was (maybe still there) is a sit in kebab place in the area. And up behind the central bank there was a quality wee pub called The Foggy Dew. Been a long time.
Can you make a video in Waterford and try and find out what makes a Blaa different to any other bread roll? This baffles me but you are the man to uncover the truth
I recently went to Dublin and went to the Temple Bar Pub just to say that I'd been there. However, at 9.50 euros a pint, it was one and done. Temple Bar is a tourist trap. I did enjoy my time in Dublin though and the Guinness was amazing.
So you buy a €9 pint of Guinness owned by a British company, served by a Brazilian barmaid, with what looks like a bar without a single Irish person in there...what a sad tourist trap.
Hey Darragh,my memories of The Temple Bar pub in Temple Bar was of the regular price hikes over the evening. So say 8 Euro in the afternoon, 9 Euro after 5pm, 11 Euro after 7 pm and who knows after that. ypor review did not account for the time of day. Maybe you should revisit on a Saturday at different times of the evening.
Didn’t go there myself, what I can say is that a pint of Guinness is around €6 -€8 everywhere else in around temple bar I went unless I was out the city centre it went to €5.50 I have also realised for myself personally. That a pint can vary in quality not by much when you find a decent place pouring it regularly. But it definitely for me can vary a little. I went Bowes which was great but my favourite place for a Guinness was the old storehouse.
Respect for this video .Im a Dubliner and I can tell you Temple bar is a horrible tourist trap . Very expensive and also it's about 15 years out of date by comparison to the rest of Dublin . South William street is the mecca in my opinion .
Its videos like this that help us tourists save the money we work so hard to earn. 8 euro 95 for a pint is silly money. I would say they are taking advantage, especially with it being so busy there.
9€ at 2pm, what is the price after 11pm and later. Haven't been in that pub in years. Gave up on it when they and the porter house started having 3 price changes over the night. There's plenty of great bars in Dublin that don't screw you over.
Just came back from 10 days in Ireland. We walked by the Temple bar and took a picture. We drank elsewhere. I did go to gravediggers the night before I left but I spent most of the trip in Galway and Donegal. Guinness does not travel well. It’s not the same in the states or most of Europe.
I would say yes it is worth going to as a tourist but don't spend your whole holiday there. If coming to Dublin for a weekend i would say set aside alot of money to spend 1 night in temple bar and then the other 2 nights in pubs slightly outside temple bar for alot cheaper. look at the atmosphere in the temple bar pub darragh first went into early afternoon, and then contrast it with mulligans which was pretty dead. No one wants to travel half way round the world to sit in mulligans when they can have a busy pub somewhere in temple bar. It is what it is.
Hey Daragh, like this style of vid that you've done. As for the daft bint who likes getting ripped off, I've got a few Orion video players in the loft for sale 😂. Worked over in Dubs during the mid to late 90s, and all the Irish lads told me to avoid Temple Bar as it's overhyped and pricey. Looks like things don't change much. Plenty of suckers ready to part with their readies.
It's funny. I was in Dublin a lot up to the start of the summer and a few times I was up for a sneaky pint before I'd get the bus home, but I never knew which place to try. Mulligan's is literally around corner from where I'd get my bus, but I never ventured down Poolbeg St, really.
Good to see you happy and energised Daragh, the content has been very fresh and exciting to watch. Keep up the good work!

Come to Belfast and u can pay 10 quid for a pint
@Yourballix who wants to drink in Belfast it's a kip
Everyone coming to Dublin for the first time should watch this. Perfect insight!
Maybe a cool video idea would be to show tourists coming to Dublin your favourite pubs where you can really party / have a great time.

Mulligans is good as a starter pub then move on the temple bar
Thats literally his whole channel. He's telling you where is good to go.

9 euros is just taking the piss isn't it. Will obviously avoid.
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! Thanks for giving head to head prices… I am going to Ireland for 87 days!!! I will skip the Temple bar and support the other Pubs being fair to their Patrons…
Fair play, Daragh. This is good content you are doing here. Nice one.
Was in Mulligan's a few weeks ago. One of the best pints of Guinness I've ever had. Well worth the 6.20
Mulligans in Manchester? My hometown used to go in regularly over da years but now live in Castlebar County Mayo….God I miss Manchester
@@jayd1974 no, Mulligan's in the video
Should be £2 00 a pint. Ripping off bstards.

This is much better than straight Guinness reviews 🎉
The absolute state of that pint. I'm no Guinness snob by any means but for nearly 9 quid I'd expect the pint to look alot better than that scandalous

Price of a pint is shocking anywhere in Dublin. I paid €6.80 for a pint of Coors yesterday ffs

It's mad the price of a pint is almost €9 in the south.
Here in the north you're paying £4 - 5.50 max
Good man I think it’s a good idea to review the bars, review the crowd? Review the bacon and cabbage all the very best.

Why is there a fishing tackle shop in the middle of a busy rourist area? I chuckle everytime i see it.

Fab content! Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Maths: 3 Guinness at Temple = 4 Guinness and pocket change at Mulligans. That’s all I need to know.
Didn’t bother my first trip to Ireland. Walked right past it my second trip and went to Bowes and Mulligans!

Temple is such a fun place for a night. Definitely worth it as a "tourist."
Really loved this style of video!
Around Dingle I payed €5-5.50 for a pint of guiness. Only the Irish coffee somewhere at the ring of Kerry got me, I payed €7.5 for it lol
Its videos like this that help us tourists save the money we work so hard to earn. 8 euro 95 for a pint is silly money. I would say they are taking advantage, especially with it being so busy there.
i would say this it might not be the best guinness in dublin but it alot better than what we get in england
9€ at 2pm, what is the price after 11pm and later. Haven't been in that pub in years. Gave up on it when they and the porter house started having 3 price changes over the night. There's plenty of great bars in Dublin that don't screw you over.
i got a few pints in the temple bar few years ago they were feckin lovely
I loved the Palace bar.
This is the pub where my friend, an American tourist, was robbed of her handbag and camera
Guiness in Bowes is way better and cheaper at 5.90.👍
Was in Mykonos 4 weeks ago and paid €56 for 1 pint bottle of beer and 2 small white wines, €32 for the beer, never ever again
All Irish pubs abroad are expensive.
I went to a couple of pubs here in Perth, West Australia and got a pint of 'White Rabbit' dark ale, $13 a pint, which is about 9 euro geez, just geez
When I visit family in Dublin don't go out drinking, far too expensive. Good video Daragh.
Cheers enjoyed this one good tips for people coming into Dublin!
Just came back from 10 days in Ireland. We walked by the Temple bar and took a picture. We drank elsewhere. I did go to gravediggers the night before I left but I spent most of the trip in Galway and Donegal. Guinness does not travel well. It’s not the same in the states or most of Europe.
The Hairy Lemon was my favourite place in Dublin for a Guinness
Yes, like the refreshed content! 🇮🇪 🇺🇸

No robbing kip
Was there last week. 9.95 per pint now.
How to order a pint of Guinness? Just say a pint? Guinness? What do
I was there in march, I specifically went to Fitsimmons Temple bar, like 9.65, screw that noise, i'd use more colorful language but TH-cam.
Over the summer was in Doyle’s pub and spent €7.10 on a pint of Heineken
It's funny. I was in Dublin a lot up to the start of the summer and a few times I was up for a sneaky pint before I'd get the bus home, but I never knew which place to try. Mulligan's is literally around corner from where I'd get my bus, but I never ventured down Poolbeg St, really.
You might have been looking at Chaplins whilst waiting for the bus! Which has a good pint too!
Go to the long hall, best pints of porter in Dublin.
When you land in Dublin get the first train to Galway…
It’s worth a walk around the area… but the pub itself isn’t worth it unless you got money to burn. Take a pic outside it & that’s that
Been living in Dublin for over 5 years now and I can proudly say, that I have never set foot in this pub and I never will.
