Obviously come 5/6in the evening they're locked and bar man won't serve them anymore as they'll lose their licence. The next time you TRY and contradict somebody, make sure they aren't from Dublin a trained barmaid and pub/club owner. This one had Michael Collins picture in the front window so we went in and had a nice time talking with locals until an older man sitting beside my wife at the bar grabbed her and planted a kiss on her mouth. Stunned, we bid farewell and quickly made our way out the bar. Surely that story is told repeatedly..."Remember when those Americans came in for a pint?"

Lad, get someone from Dublin to show you pubs if youre ever in Dublin again.
Bowes is for the posh boys that work in the Irish Times. You were 2 minutes from Mulligans. A pub where fathers have brought their sons for their first official pint for generations. Reputed to have the best pint in Ireland and thats down to the bar staff who have more charisma than there are pints in a keg.
You couldve walked to McNeills a solid working class place where real touring trad musicians from the city centre sit down and play. Anything you couldnt get off the bar staff in terms of content youd get from the lads playing for fun in the bar.

I haven't had a drink in years, but 12 years ago in my home town of Thurles, Tipperary, Ireland 🇮🇪, a pint of Guinness ( absolutely delicious) was just €4.00 no way in hell would I drink in Temple Bar, Guinness is shite and too damn expensive. Dublin Pubs on North Strand & Amien Street, Dolphins Barn & Caple Street and others off the main road, Dubliners pubs, great pint, not expensive.
The further away from Dublin the more tasty the pint of Guinness. I once had a pint of Guinness in a pub in Edinburgh Scotland, it was almost as delightful as my local pub in Thurles.
Unfortunately the price of Alcohol has driven people from pubs and this lead to widespread closures throughout Ireland. Another disaster by a useless government. Now they realise their price rises were a mistake, they are reducing prices in the next budget. Too late for all those family owned pubs throughout Ireland... I miss the Craic and Banter in my old local pub..

Tourists come to Ireland sold on the the idea of 'craic & ceol' unaware that an old school Irish pub is hard to find these days. The country used to be full of top notch pubs but since the smoking ban came in, followed by higher prices, drink driving crackdown, lower off licence prices/supermarket deals, the Covid lockdown, the younger generations 'dry' approach to life, healthier lifestyles etc.... the Irish Pub is becoming part of folklore. I came of age in the lates 80's/early 90's and the pubs were full even though nobody had much money or disposable income back then. Who can forget Italia 90/USA 94?? Even the WC is SK/Japan was fun. The party vibes fizzled out when the Celtic Tiger popped!

What the lads aren't going into is the city centre is a scungey hole fullnof junkies, beggars & low-lives that'll happily rob you- the tourist. The pub staff will too in a sense.
