Aonach Eagach Ridge - Wild Camping on Britain's Narrowest Ridge

  • Wild Camping on the Aonach Eagach Ridge just in front of the Crazy Pinnacles is for me so far the best wild camping spot in Glencoe, Scotland. The Aonach Eagach is famous for being the narrowest ridge in mainland Britain, linking to Munro's (Meall Dearg, Sgorr nam Fiannaidh) with a great scramble on the ridge.
    On this tour I experienced sun, heavy rain, strong wind and fog on the ridge during and after the wild camp. When you want to see more wild camping videos, check out my channel or leave me just a comment.
    Hope you enjoy the video of this adventure!

    N.B.I: What is it with the "no added DRAMA"? Simple, I record all of my videos with as little lens distortion as possible particular on the GoPro. That means for me a less wide view which is for sure a disadvantage, but for you it means that you get a most natural perspective/watching experience without dramatic edges/ bended horizons/... or short an unreal watching experience!
    N.B.II: This is not a guide in how to scramble the Aonach Eagach Ridge, rather a video memory of a fantastic tour for myself!

    Trying to catch up with all your videos. This is the most terrifying, by far! I’ve done the aonach eagach twice. The first time was in fog and we blasted over it, but the second time the exposire became apparent. We took it a lot slower then 😳 The prize is a couple of beers in the Clachaig afterwards. Great vid Stripey, thanks!

    Stripey Hat Guy, your video work [especially the drone footage] brings the Aonach Eagach to life! I walked the ridge many years ago in similar weather conditions and remember especially a Brocken Specter effect I witnessed--without getting a photo, since it was short-lived. Sun casts one's shadow onto the mist within a spectrum ring. I could watch my shadow's motion inside the rainbow ring. Then it was gone. Please review your footage, for at time 25:26 I believe the beginnings of the effect are evident. The sun is behind you and there is a circular glow [no spectrum that I could see] on the mist as your shadow leaves the ridge and climbs onto the cloud. It is there for less than a second, but is definitely visible.

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave! I can only talk for myself but I personally like the versatility much more without angebt floor. This particular tent I made myself for the Alps where I was usually sleeping on rocks, no tent floor likes that over a longer period of time. In Scotland I use one without a floor mainly to reduce weight of my pack, but it is boarder line as we have so many ticks. I have an inner tent for my duomid but try to use it only when necessary (e.g. critter time in the year).
      So in short: Tents with no floor are for me just lighter and more versatile 😎

      Loved watching this as I can’t do that sort of thing now. I did this for the first time in 1998 east to west and then in 2005 both ways in the same day. Surprised that you found the rock slippery but there has been quite a few years of erosion since I did it. I felt very confident on the rock both times. Mind you, I was only carrying a day pack. Look forward to watching others of yours.
