    The Bothy concept is very foreign to America as they simply don’t exist. This one that you stayed in is just amazing and represents an incredible endeavor to build this one out in the middle of nowhere. So cool to see this!

    I loved that bothy! Seemed like a slice of paradise in the middle of that harsh weather. I’m glad that you posted this video!

    What amazing places. I am sure that these places of refuge would be so welcoming to a weary traveler, especially if it was going dark, or the weather started to turn for the worst. Fantastic and everyone who uses them should show their appreciation, even if they just leave a few Tea Bags or a couple of tins 🙏👍

    Great video Stripey, thanks for posting. That's my favourite bothy in the Cairngorms. Looking good since it had its refurbishment.

    Nice one stripey. If YOU think it was too windy then it definitely WAS too windy. Nice wee Bothy night though👌.

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John! Yeah the wee Bothy is really stunning, won't be easy for future bothys as they will get compared 😂

    Another great video mate, shame about the ridge but better to be on the safe side 😃, still amazing views down the Lairig Ghru, didnt know about that bothy - it looks cozy 😂
    Im planning the braeriach traverse soon so this video has me excited for it 😄👍

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi James, yeah you won't pass it on the traverse for bagging the munros, is probably a detour from the normal traverse of 1-1.5 hrs - is a great wee Bothy, reminded me off the shelters in the Alps - or you would need to walk up/down from Angel's Peak to The Devil's Point... which is probably not favourable by ~30km 😂.
      Thanks for watching. ATB Stripey

    • @ScottishMunroJourney
      @ScottishMunroJourney 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StripeyHatGuy yeah i see it is a spur off from the traverse, your video still gives a good idea of the scale of the Lairig Ghru 😁

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks James. If it helps, I needed 3.75 hrs to the Bothy, and to the "end" of the Lairig Ghru (Last pool in the maps) pretty much exactly 3 hrs (with a big rucksack, so probably quicker with a day pack). ATB Stripey

    Excellent Stripey, I love the Cairngorms, but I've yet to go through the Lairig Ghru so thanks for sharing this footage. The wee mountain shelter looked great, really well maintained & nice to see the spare mats etc :)

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Scott. I need to admit that I was a kind of disappointed by the boulder field as it looked so massive in other videos and it was just a short walk through it. The bothy is really a belter - even so so near by stream makes you feel like in an airplane 😃

    • @outlawedlandscapes
      @outlawedlandscapes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StripeyHatGuy Haha! Can't complain about having a source for the freshest mountain water outside the door though ;)
      Aye, that is strange - I'd heard the Chalamain Gap was enormous (I'll bet it's a different story with a layer of snow though!) and I was surprised to see a lovely path through the pass :o

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah a layer of snow makes it for sure more difficult 🙂

    Unlucky with the weather SHG was a good adventure you had going there, glad you got your first bothy experience, seemed cosy! One place I've never been is the cairngorms, done all the peaks south in gleenshee but none of the north, planning to do them this summer. Was up An Teallach on Friday 11th June and the wind made it very challenging.

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah was pretty good and it was the first time in the Cairngorms for me as on the West-Coast the weather was to bad so I thought I would give it a try even knowing that it would be windy...good try 😂. Oh wow An Teallach, only read about it and as basically every place it is high on my Wish-List! But for right know I have unfortunately no holiday and I'll stick to the more "local" hills/ridges. Nice one Stripey. Looked abit too windy, but still good to get a night away in the Gorms. 👍 I've been up Angel's Peak before but I fancy a return via that ridge. Cheers

      @StripeyHatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kevin, unfortunately yes - might have been fine but every so often the wind caught my rucksack and I thought only "Ohoh", well next time. I think as well that the ridge is the way to go ☺️🙌👍

    Impressive footpaths in the middle of nowhere! It must have taken a lot of work and materials to construct them. In modern times, or when the Highlands were more populated and they relied on horse power?

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Faithless Hound!
      Yeah absolutely surprising as the way to the bothy is in places not distinct at all. The materials for this one is actually not as bad as it looks like tbh. a steel frame with some sort of rug and a lot of stones which are probably just from the surrounding area.
      Thanks for watching!

    Fantastic mate. When was this? I'm hoping to do this on Monday and would like to stay in the shelter. Is it unlocked?

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mate, the shelter is unlocked - I did the tour last Saturday. The Ridge is really short so, I needed like 20 min. up to the Loch and I assume the ridge will be like 30 min. or so - quite a long way for a short scramble....BUT in a stunning scenery. Hope you have better weather conditions mate 😃🤞
