The money is federally insured by the FDIC for 250k so they shouldn't have an issue giving it right back. The 3 times I've had issues with money being used from my account I didn't make I had zero issues getting my money back. Though I use Credit Unions and they're superior in every way. Plus they didn't almost kill our nation like banks have done before. Last being in 2008...Though a bank should have no issue giving the money back. It's what the insurance is for.
The phone stores need to be required to have video cameras and ID verification processes. Our phones are computers with our whole lives on them. The banks AND the phone companies need to be held liable!
However ... this reported info doesnt explain how did the thief was able to get the Lady phone n SIM card numbers , "out of thin air" Purchasing a new phone and telling the phone company "hey, this is my number and I want it in this new phone" bla bla bla, the thief must have gather the Lady phone number n SIM card (such a long number) through a phone service provider ... I cant conceive in my head how the heck, other than knowing the Lady details of her phone, could had stolen her info. None of those factors were mentioned. Was it simething in this report tgat I didnt catch?
Yeah I didn’t get that either. How can you walk into a Verizon store on the west coast and get a new phone using someone else’s number? You would think they would require 3 forms of ID and a damn convincing story. I can’t help but think that this was Verizon’s fault. The bank probably contacted them and said “You want to split this one?” and that’s how the lady got her money back.
I know one thing Verizon would never hear the end of it when it came to me I'd be on the phone everyday calling them telling them that day number two. Day number three day number four. They would never hear the end of it.
So what the news reporter should be telling you is use your phone as a phone and a camera do not do any online banking don’t install your credit cards or anything why oh I don’t know because it’s not secure
Thankfully your money is insured by the govt for 250k at least. I've gotten my bank info leaked by things like when Playstation got hacked for eg and got some money used from my account. Each time I just went to the bank and showed them what purchases were stolen, then sign something that says I'm not lying under threat of legal action and my money went right back into my account and account info changed obviously. Still that's time and time is money. it's best to just know how to protect yourself and watch vids like this. And don't use banks. Use Credit Unions. Banks almost killed our country a few times recently. The last being in 2008. Credit unions are superior in every single way.
Amazing how responsive the bank became after it was reported by the news. OOPPSIE!

If the banks were made to be responsible for customer's funds, then this problem would be solved in about 2 minutes.
Amen,...
The banks should be held responsible for customers such as her who have taken every precaution.
I only use my phone to call, I have no banking information, no email, nothing...very sad but we have to protect ourselves from thieves.
shouldn't the carrier verify ownership of such number through an ID, before activating new phones?
Thankyou for educating the scammers !

If they were held accountable they would make sure their employees followed protocol . Don't let scammers scam ( sweet talk you) the phone company.
If she had walked into the phone store to get a new phone maybe this would not have happened. Am I right?

I have no apps on my phone that didn't come with it. No online banking. Period.
Authentication need to be done face to face (meeting in person)
Well I'm already broke so I don't need to worry
Maybe she borrowed that money so she was more broke than you.
Totally the bank's fault.
this is more verizon's fault than the bank ... you cant just port a number from an active paying customer to another
I know one thing Verizon would never hear the end of it when it came to me I'd be on the phone everyday calling them telling them that day number two. Day number three day number four. They would never hear the end of it.
They would need other information about you, like where you bank, going to be someone you know.
So what the news reporter should be telling you is use your phone as a phone and a camera do not do any online banking don’t install your credit cards or anything why oh I don’t know because it’s not secure
