    When I was a dispatcher, I was always taught that adding up Alstom to Siemens cars was a no-no! I wonder if anyone got in trouble for this, or was this approved by someone at the top?

    The WMATA here in DC had been mixing cars with different propulsion systems for years, since 1000 through 6000 series cars were fully compatible with each other, but ever since they retired the 1000, 4000, and 5000 series, every train I’ve seen has all one type of car

    I love the R160! In the UK, we use Alstom and Siemen motors too. On the London Underground Jubilee line and on Southeastern. They are both major on trains in England. On Southeastern, the 465/9s use Alstom VVVF motors (i think) and the London Underground Jubilee line 1996 TS uses it too. Maybe the 465/2 also? I'm not sure. Other motors like the BREL and ABB ( i think the ABB is aka hitachi motor since the thyristor was removed changing the sounds quite a lot).
    The Siemens is used on the Class 700 series (consists of 707 and 717 also). The trains are used on Thameslink using 700s) Great Northern (using 717s) Southwestern Railways (aka SWR, using 707s) and Southeastern (aka SE. southeastern 707s are also known as 707 ('Citybeam')

    I remember someone said after the CBTC swap that mixed propulsions are occurring more often. But if the E, F, G, and R lines run all 5-car R160 sets, that makes it rarer. When they used to split between Jamaica and Coney Island Yards, only Coney Island had Siemens trains. So I disagree with that someone.

    * power output
    * traction motors
    * weight
    * height
    * length
    However, you must have the same or a similar type of couplers. The only other difference between R142 and R142A is that R142 does not have regenerative brakes unlike R142A, only dynamic brakes.

      Now for the J/Z, L, and M, 8 60 feet cars make a full length train as their platforms can only hold 480 feet trains.
