- To prepare for CBTC to go live on the Queens Boulevard E/F/M/R lines, the R46s that run on these lines are being moved to Coney Island Yard. In exchange, R160s maintained by Coney Island Shop will be transferred to Jamaica Shop. Here we see a transferred set of R160 cars equipped with Siemens propulsion running in E line service. Expect more interesting changes in the future. Enjoy!

While I will miss the Siemens R160s on the N and Q lines, this is a welcome change for the E line!
I've always thought they sounded better on the Queens Blvd Line.
I finally saw an R46 in the N line. I saw it today in Queensboro plaza when the 7 line wasn't going to Manhattan. I just saw a Astroia Bound R46 N. But I took an R160A Q train. Wow Q trains to Queens again.
So they took out some R160s and put them on the E line
So the R160S on the N they took Half of it out of the Coney Island Yard
@@douglaswells6679 R160 Simens and Alstom are being put on the Queens Blvd Line. Both R160 from the Astoria/ Coney Island line have the same door motor sound. The doors when they open and close. Not the ding dong sound but the doors when they open and close. I've heard them on the F lines. R46 are getting somewhat common so far on the N and W lines. I was going to Queens and saw an R46 pass by 57 street. I was like dam. Then another pair came. I was like wtf. That 2 R46 sets. Then another one on the Manhattan bound. Very common.

I love the Siemens. I scream at the top of my lungs when a Siemens R160B blasts into the station at the 7th Avenue Station on the Q line.

Branden Rios Unless you want to reconfigure those 5-car R160Bs onto 4-car sets, then there is no way in hell that the R160Bs will run on the M.
The Cat ln The Hat With The Belt That is not remotely true. There is NO R160B 4-car sets. There are only 372 R160 cars in 4-car sets and they are R160A cars 8313-8652 and 9943-9974. All of them are based solely out of East New York Yard.
In addition, both the N and W are based out of Coney Island Yard. The CI Fleet contains 75-door R46 and R68 cars that are linked into 4-car units and 60-foot R160A and B that are linked into 5-car sets. THEY DO NOT HAVE R160B CARS ASSEMBLED IN 4-CAR SETS, AND THE N AND W DO NOT OPERATE IN 9-CAR SETS.

The Cat ln The Hat With The Belt The M is based out of East New York Yard, not Fresh Pond Yard (there is no Middle Village Yard). Fresh Pond Yard merely exists to store trains for M service in between Rush Hours.
Also, THERE IS NO R160B SIEMENS IN 4-CAR SETS. ALL 260 OF THE CARS ARE IN 5-CAR SETS.

I like the R160 Alstom but since it was the only R160 working on the E train, I was getting sick of it but after hearing that the R160 Siemens came to work on the E train I got really excited

R160 simens makes the E more different then the regular Alstom R160

My new favorite yard is Jamaica. It used to be East New York due to my home trains J, Z, L, and M housing the R160A-1, but now a swap has sent all R160 5-car sets to Jamaica. Wherever a line uses R160s, it's only this car! I find it fun watching the R160A-2, R160B-1 (Alstom), and R160B-2 (Siemens) over the E, F, G, and R lines, and even catching more instances of mixed-types, especially propulsion differences, which are more likely to happen now thanks to all R160 5-car sets located there.

I been dreaming about this when I was 6 years old, and it actually happened.
This happened while I've been away from the F line qualifying for CBTC on the Queens Boulevard corridor and I post on the L line for a second time tonight. I sorta miss the Siemens R160B from when I worked the N line.

Finally A Subway Station That Is Actually CLEAN
Now that definitely went down in New York City Subway History using the R160B Siemens Subway Train Cars from the N, Q, & W on E train's branch line & still the same stops on the E train from World Trade Center in Manhattan to Jamaica Center in Queens. Very amazing because hashtag Super Megaforce E train baby!!!!!!!!!!

If your wondering where all the R160s went from the Q,N and W lines, well it’s because of this and the R and F lines. They needed them for CBTC on the Queens Blvd Lines.
The Siemens traction sound are so much better then the Alstom sounds finnaly I see them on my local IND line I live on the 7 tough

Now this is gonna take time for me to get used to.. I mean, I am a huge fan of these...especially when they were on Broadway/Sea Beach/Brighton. I'm going fanning today on the Queens Boulevard Line and it'll be luck if I see these.
The R160 Siemens was the king of the Broadway Line until they had to be moved over to the Jamaica Yard for CBTC on the Queens Blvd Line.

yes it sucks but all the R46's based out of jamaica wont work on queens blvd and think about it this way since the N and Q are going to be R46 now when the R211's come you will get them on your routes
The Q will likely get something to replace the R46s considering MTA wouldn’t want to build new stops for old trains

When 34th st opened 7 did not use all R188 it also used R62A's but as more R188's came they got phased out same thing is gonna happen here in a year or two when the R211's start to roll out R46's will phased out slowey on the Q

@@Patchy682bestbus Yeah A we all know is going to ger R211'S first most of its fleet is made of are R46'S with some R32'S its going to get it first. But before it was planed line like the F and R which had R46's would get R211's to replace the R46's running on them but now that the N,Q,W have them they will receive the R211'S

Ok I do like the Alston propulsion and I wish the R had the simems propulsion because it is the brother of the Q for some reason so it would make more sense

Tbh it was always much nicer seeing them the N or Q where they go ove the bridge and run outside on the sea beach or brighton lines where they can actually get some fresh air instead being trapped inside the tunnels throughout their entire route.

I'm comparing the sounds of the different Siemens propulsion systems around the world; I have noticed that even though NYC Subway's R160B trains have Siemens' IGBT propulsion, the pitch sounds more like its GTO brethren than something with IGBT. Compare this with Japan's Keikyu's 1000 series trains with Siemens IGBT propulsion, then compare it with Keikyu's 1000 series trains with Siemens GTO (a.k.a. the famous "singing trains"), and Singapore's SMRT C651 and Taiwan's Taipei Metro C321 trains, both of which are also fitted with Siemens' GTO propulsion.
R211A estimated to be in service by 2022
I wonder with the R211's about to start coming in along with the 179's already there could this mean the A&C line being the next to get CBTC?
thelordai gat What I do know is that the 8th Avenue Line will get CBTC to increase capacity (in reality, it needs a connection between the local tracks and the Nassau Street Line). When it comes online is uncertain.

I finally caught R160B Siemens on the E train I was hoping a change I'm tired of Alstom sound I feel like the Kawasaki works the best but I don't want to see the R46 gone on Queens Blvd line so much memories same for the N train losing some R160 Siemens

Yo facts, 6th av express always getting fucked. R160 in general actually be going fast, everytime a reroute on the West End with a R160, it is always so much faster. But of course, CBTC "has" to happen on Queens Blvd. Queens Blvd better not get R211, except for of course the R trains.
Branden Rios that wouldn’t really make any sense to bring the 211s to those lines. For one, they are retiring the remaining 32s, the 44s on the SIR, 46s. Not sure about the 68s/68As, but that’s where they are going to be sending to replace those fleet of old cars. When the 262s come into place for the A Division IRT lines, they will retire all of the remaining R62 trains that are occupied on the 1, 3 and 6 lines
Branden Rios actually no they are not. Since the Queens Blvd Line has its r160s, they would not need r211s. So the R211s are going to the NQW, AC trains and maybe a few more lines.

Plus, the A still has R46s.

@@W.L.Customs Exactly. Those R46s aren't leaving yet. Their replacements, the R211s, won't arrive until at least 2022, which gives them at least 22 more months to live.

Imagine if the G train looks like this. But it's not gonna happen since the r68's got 4 subway cars & the r160 only gets 5 subway cars. At least that's the first time I ever seen a Siemens E.
A 4-car train of R68 and R68A cars is the same length as a 5-car train of R160 and R179 cars.

After that, it hadn't happened again. So I don't think we're going to be seeing a Siemens D train for a long time.

I remember 46's were widely used on the N back when I was a kid so it's kind of a throwback for me

Christopher Okhiria I believe 80 cars will be retired in 2020. The R179 issues have been fixed so no need for a big spare factor.
Christopher Okhiria The R179s have reduced the need for the R32s. In addition, the L train work is scheduled to end in April. The retirements are possibly scheduled to begin in June.

Christopher Okhiria In all actuality, the shutdown is NOT a shutdown. The plans were changed last year to be a partial shutdown during nights and weekends, with regular rush hour service maintained.
Because of this, there is no need for full length G train or additional C service as of now. In addition, C fleet needs only 72 R32s and 72 R179s. The A only needs its 248 R46 and 130 R179s to make service. It doesn’t even need the R32s. There are only 222 R32s left. Taking 80 cars out of service will not impact the fleet in any way until the R211s arrive.
I hope the Q gets most of the R46 then the N & W them since they share trains plus the Q train use less trains then the N & W trains.
