    I just want to say I really appreciate these well made summaries. I'd even go as far as to say that, if you're only interested in the content of the story, these summaries are far superior to actually sitting through the long and dragged out episodes.

      You're welcome! That's exactly why I made these videos, because I know the prospect of sitting through hundreds (thousands?) of hours of really old TV is off-putting for a lot of people, but there's so much fun stuff in there, it'd be a shame for Dr Who fans to miss out!

    I think the final moments of The Chase where the Doctor admits he's going to miss Ian and Barbara after their departure is very poignant.
    I don't think there's much acting being done by William Hartnell in the end scene. I feel the actor himself was truly sad at Jacqueline Hill and William Russell leaving the show.
    They'd been doing Doctor Who together for close on two years and for Hartnell, not only was it a good regular income for an actor of his age, he had also grown so comfortable and accustomed in the role. Russell and Hill, on the other hand, were young and wanted, understandably, to move on and do other things.
    He still had the lovely Vicki to console him and who wouldn't want that?
    I would like to add my voice to the many who have already expressed their admiration and gratitude at these marvellous, in depth and amusing commentaries of our favourite television Sci-Fi show. Wonderfully put together.

    Thanks for these! I am an American, New Who convert. I had no idea this was such a British institution. I'm also a completist, so I wanted to go back & watch from the start. Wow, was I overwhelmed! I had no idea there was so much. I managed to find some of the early eps here & there. But it was really hard & I was never sure if they were in the correct order or if eps were skipped, etc. And then I learned some episodes had been lost forever. That really discouraged me.
    I can't stand the newest incarnation. But I do miss the show, so I still wanted to see the original eps. Looks like Britbox has them, so if I can swing it financially, I want to try that. I really love the show, even when some of the early stuff was kind of cheesy or whatever.
    Anyway, thanks again. This is really helpful. I hope you're able to continue. I'm sure it takes so much time to put together!

      He returns in season 3 and then he's in several Big Finish Audio adventures if you're wanting more Monk action. He was definitely a prototype for the Master. Real shame we didn't get to see more of him played by Peter Butterworth.

    I love the cheesy special effects & ridiculous costumes. It's supposed to be "scary" but it's hilarious! It's like a play kids would put together using junk they found in the garage.
    Susan was annoying with all her shrieking. But I came to like her by the end. I'm glad she found someone & had an opportunity for a more stable, "normal" life. Her goodbye with the Doctor was touching. I also loved the Doctor's character development. He could be grouchy & harsh sometimes. But he really did care about her. And he came to care about Barbara & Ian as well.
    I eventually liked Vicki, more or less. I wish we'd gotten to know her better. And with all the missing episodes, I didn't get to see what happened to her & say goodbye!

    • @doctorohosadventures3476
      @doctorohosadventures3476  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for watching!
      Due to the criminally low budget and lack of technology at the time, these old stories are often more like a stage play than a TV show, but there is a certain charm to the clunkiness of it all.
      Vicki's goodbye was very unsatisfying. Maybe it would be better if the story wasn't lost. It's nothing compared to some of the companion exits next season though!

      @@doctorohosadventures3476 People often comment on the budget for Classic Who, so I decided to do some research. Checking through my volumes of the 'Doctor Who Handbook' (published in the 1990s), I found that the budget for the first season was £2,500 per episode, with £4,000 for the TARDIS set itself. William Hartnell was paid £236 per episode for the first season, going up to £262 per episode for season 2. Just to put this in context, the average price for 3 bedroom house in the UK in 1964 was £3,000.

    • @simonbeaird7436
      @simonbeaird7436 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ineedausername124 According to my reference, that was for each episode. I did a little more research and found that the usual salary for a male school teacher in 1963 (eg Ian) was £1,244 pear year. In other words, £100 a month. Which means Bill Hartnell was earning ten times as much for 'Doctor Who'!

I always take out the bit they don't like me using and re-upload a new version, but then they complain about something else. I'm almost finished editing the season 4 video, so that will be ready to upload soon, but the BBC really don't like me doing these so I might have to stop or move to a different platform :(

    Does the series ever get back to Susan? If not, they definitely should! So strange their relationship is never explained and he doesn't return to her. Maybe it's in a big finish story, haven't listened to those

    • @doctorohosadventures3476
      @doctorohosadventures3476  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Big Finish does revisit Susan, and some of the novels do, too, but she's only seen in the TV series once more in the 20th anniversary story "The 5 Doctors" but it doesn't explain much about her origins, or what happened to her after she left The Doctor. In the fan community it's become a bit of a long-running joke that every time a new is actor is cast in the series, people speculate that they could be playing Susan! But they never are.
