Hopefully, they actually launch closer to those prices. Up in Canada we are currently getting hosed. Both the 4080 and 4090 have had their prices spiked. $150 added to the 4080 and $600-700 for the 4090. The 4090 was around $2250 and is now closer to $3000. Which is insane.

We can thank Trudeau for the inflation and devalued CDN dollar. $1.33 CDN = $1 USD and it’s only going to get worse as we’re going to get hosed by the green energy scam and our electricity rates look to sky rocket.
I was going to get the 70 Ti Super but it certainly won’t come in at MSRP so I’m expecting it to go for $1100CDN at a minimum.

I'm having serious doubts about that 4080 Super price point. The 4090 ballooned in price despite its MSRP, so with that card so far ahead people might be willing to pay more for the 4080 Super and AIBs, retailers and not to mention scalpers, are usually quick to take advantage of that. I don't think those cards are going to be available for $999 for very long.

Something I didn't consider until now is that the 4080 Super being $999 while discontinuing the 4080 actually makes the theoretical $1,600 msrp of the 4090 seem like more of a premium price to pay. I had always felt like there was no reason to get a 4080 when the 4090 was only $400 more and had 50% more VRAM and was a lot more powerful too. I actually think $999 for the 4080 Super finally makes the 4080 (now 4080 Super) a compelling option over the 4090 even if we were still able to get a 4090 for its msrp.

    • @Jedibenuk

MSRP over USD 1000 for RTX 4090 itself is insane, and not market viable for the long run for a tech product.
Jensen must start trying to 'soft land' the pricing before imbalance kicks Nvidia's butts. Hahahahahaha... ...
Buyers like me... ... we simply let Nvidia waste a couple of production rounds to get or choose to get one of the products. So even if we have the money to try one more, we can't.
It is just too insanely price for buyers to shorten upgrade periods, hence lower cashflows from PC buyers. Also, used to you can buy GPUs for your kids and such as gifts, but now... ... many such buying activities hence cashflows are wiped out because of such folly. Hence products cancelled, products stuck, marketing forecast messed up and a whole lot of problems and costs piling up, and retail side also have to look at Nvidia... ... Can they order with peace in mind???
That's while Nvidia is losing touch with general market. And competitors rise... ...
Sounds simple to just raise prices, but that is making consumer behavior more 'sneaky'. So now if you try as new product, you can't be sure if the consumers like it and you risk product stuck at production line... ... cos everyone is eyeing on only ONE particular future product... ... Means Nvidia is stuck. And one mistake will mean huge losses.
To consumers, if even RTX 50s can't meet their requirements, and Nvidia is stuck to losses, at most they switch to AMD... ... or now Intel and even China brands. Because they can afford them. But for Nvidia, CEO Jensen will bear the heat. So higher or insane pricing seems a common sense of making more, but does it really mean so?
In real, used to you can try and upgrade as Nvidia pushes out new tech, you can buy 3 GPUs along the way. But now, you can only buy 1 after 5 GPUs happen... ... and you can't buy GPUs as convenient gifts for your children, you won't buy another for spare, and you consumer habit towards GPU changes as you re-budget and not into 'as updated or trendy'.
      And cashflow becomes a gamble.
This RTX 4090 is at a price you can buy a least 3 top tier GPUs decades ago... ... Instead of buying 3, you now have to wait for 5 GPUs before you can get RTX4090; which is, if RTX1090 is priced like this, you have to wait till RTX 4090, save up to get RTX 1090, then save up again, wait and wait through the GPUs to get 9090. For Nvidia... ... that means risks... ... because along the wait or way, suddenly you may switch to AMD, and that affects corporate projection.
Worse, there should be more of poor buyers than rich buyers.
Worse still, for RTX 4090 or top tier GPUs, usually to mid range to even high end buyers, they need the software and relevant hardware to match. So now... ... they will wait, but definitely not for RTX 4090. Nvidia has in this, distorted consumer behavior or the market against its best interests, and creating for itself more problems than needed. See?

For a sense of how it scales, the 4060 is a sidegrade (roughly equal power, but access to DLSS and RTX) and everything else is an upgrade. So, just look for the 4060 or 3070 on the chart, and that's roughly where you're sitting. It'll vary significantly by title, but as a rule of thumb, every generational step moves you down a tier because Nvidia intentionally lines them up that way (i.e., very approximately and depending on engine, etc., 4060 = 3070 = 2080 = 1080 Ti)

If you sell your old GPU then that offsets the price a bit. YES, please. Instead of everyone blathering about AV1 codec, which hits all the same limits as h.265, just with better bandwidth efficiency. People unfamiliar with VR footage think you'd never need more than 2:1 4096p x 60fps. But we do need 8k 120fps and 16k. The licensing red tape that held HEVC back for so long has been smoothed out. There's no reason NOT to be supporting VVC encoding/decoding anymore.

@@WindFireAllThatKindOfThing we're a loooooooooonnnnnggg way from 2:1 4000p 120hz thats for sure. I remember a decade ago when people said 1080p would be dead in just a couple of years, look at it now. AAA games cant barely hit stable 60 at 1080p with ray tracing.

    • @WindFireAllThatKindOfThing

@@bladeoflucatiel I'm talking just VR video decoding, not rendering graphics. Media. You need both absurd camera sensors, better lens solutions, better professional video cards that can encode that kind of footage into h.266 (Versatile Video Codec, successor to HEVC h.265), and of course the consumer ability to decode & watch those h.266 video streams. Edit: I'm getting well north of steady 144 frames on my 120hz 4k display on a 3080 ti using most games like MW3 and Cyberpunk these days, no DLSS. But not doing Ray Tracing either. That's cherry picking.

Thanks for the detailed review Jay
Nvidia has essentially tripled the price of graphics cards over the past several years.
Now they're giving us scraps and we're lapping them up.
The 1080 TI launched on March 10th 2017 for $699.
That was the 4090 of that time and that freaking card was truly
amazing. I never bought it because I thought it was overpriced.
Let's stop being amazed by minor incremental changes and call a spade a spade. Within a year AMD and Intel will have caught up with Nvidia and their AI chip dominance. We have already waited a couple years for a decent reasonably priced graphics card. We need to be patient as a community and stop rewarding these greedy self-serving companies by buying dramatically overpriced products.

      thats not how it works.
699$ in 2017 relates to 883$ in 2023 due to inflation. The 1080 Ti is what the RTX 4080 is today. The 4090 is the Titan of today, as they don't otherwise exist anymore as high end enthusiast cards. They started this with the 30 series and the 3090 and 3090 Ti (which got shit on due to its insane price and the insane drop in price confirmed this to many).
So yes, NVIDIA applied a premium because they can, they are the biggest baddy on the GPU market, they do what they want, and they will keep doing this until there is some actual competition WITH feature parity (people justify AMDs lineup bc it is cheaper by 100 bucks, but since the 7900XTX is also too expensive considering its lackluster RT performance and using FSR, which to this day is NOT on the same level as DLSS sadly, but in regards to pure performance they can't compete on the same level since those cards SHOULD be running those features well enough in comparison to NVIDIAs cards, which they sadly aren't).
I don't think anyone here is cheering NVIDIA on to keep doing this, but we all live in the same world and have to deal with this shit, but there is no point trying to point out a baddie when it sadly boils down to capitalism doing its thing, since nobody here is willing to give up their hobby to make a point.

    Sob story here…
I JUST bought a 4070ti before realizing the super was coming out this month. Honestly this is getting exhausting. Like you mentioned before , it’s all feels like a cash grab. Now I’m stuck with a slightly sub par card. I’ll only be gaming in 1080p or 1440p (VR in most cases) so I’ll be fine I guess. I came from a 980ti so the difference will still be quite noticeable.
I’m not going to return the 4070ti because #1 I think there’s a restock fee still lose money trying to swap.
#2 I’m tired of chasing performance with hardware. Every year there’s some new shadows, textures, particles or badly optimize game that forces you to upgrade. It really takes the fun out of all of it. I’d rather just turn most of that stuff off and keep my money.

The 2080 Ti made a lot of gamers have a negative attitude towards Nvidia and then all of a sudden they announce the 3080 and the demand just went through the roof with the vastly improved frames per dollar, MSRP-wise at least. My PC's GPU died, and I bought a 4080 to replace it... about a month ago. Not terribly sad, the 4080's a great card ((I did get money back as it went on sale the next week, and Best Buy has a great lowest price guarantee))
I tried using Frame Gen now that I have access to it. In Starfield, it felt good. Just boosted smoothness, and was really nice to run. in Alan Wake 2, while the smoothness was there, the lag was terrible. Felt like my game was running in slime. Smooth, but not responsive.
And what I think is the cause is the 60FPS mark. If the frame gen cannot exceed 100FPS, then there's no point in enabling it. If your game runs below 60FPS without it, tweak the setting so it at least runs around 75FPS before enabling it, as the input latency it introduces will be felt.
For the most part, I leave it off. It's neat to have, but not necessary.

Whenever you can get a high end Nvidia card, you should just do it imo. I know that there is a lot of complaints about the price and they're justified, but I really like what Nvidia is doing lately. The push for real-time path tracing, the push for local AI computing (Stable Diffusion + LLMs run incredibly well on RTX cards) and also side software such as RTX Broadcast. It's good stuff.

DLSS can be good on occasion, But it is often quite shit.. and adds horrible unwanted levels of latency. I want native crisp picture when I'm gaming! Overall I'm not fan of it, I'm certainly not a fan of the fact Nvidia push it on us and that developers are starting to be more lazy forcing users to use it to get a better FPS experience even when you have a beefy expensive card. But then the opposing argument is it's great for those that have 'lesser' hardware and can get better performance (I agree that's cool). So I have no problem with it being a thing, Just that everyone in the gaming background linked with Nvidia are leaning on it and forcing down people's throats. It should be a thing we can use not have to use. I don't pay stupid money for a GPU and then a big AAA game, To then have to use an upscaling method to get good FPS!
