As you may know, plumbing is all about finesse. To stop a leak, under tighten and tighten again. Plastic compression fittings, cut an inch or two off and get a new bight/bite. Teflon paste or tape, judge after ten years of experience and still guess how much works.

The renaming ceremony is absolutely essential. I neglected this, and I was caught in the worst storm of my sailing life in the Lake Erie islands, ten miles from my marina. My hat blew off, my flag blew off, my radio antenna blew off and the rain blew into the companionway I had not had time to board up before I had to grab the tiller and hold on for dear life! I arrived back at my dock with four inches of water sloshing around the cabin.
