Desiree, when my wife was pregnant with our first child, she slept as I drove us into work, and went to sleep as soon as we got home. Apparently, building a new human is energy intensive. If I recall, it passed after the first trimester or so. Don’t feel bad about it, what you are doing is miraculous.

Lack of energy is VERY REAL!!! It's overwhelming at times. It was the same for me and every mother that I know. Rest!! ....a lot!!!!!!!!!!!! You're not alone!!!!!!!!! ;)
I just don’t know how I was ever able to sail tens of thousands of miles without all that expensive equipment. At sea, if only one person is in cockpit, they were always connected to a tether. In time GPS made navigation easier and a watermaker made every voyage more enjoyable, but somehow I survived without them for many miles.⛵️⛵️⛵️🙏🏼

Amen Tomas. We had a depth sounder, (but kept the lead line) VHF Radio, multiband receiver, & chronometer and cruised and voyaged for 15 years on a wooden Alden schooner.
Desiree, I have three beautiful daughters. The third is in her 2nd year of college. It takes a ton of energy to make another human. Be kind to yourself and know it is a short lived part of your life but will get you ready for the next step!
Your next few months will be trying but y’all hang in because the reward is worth every ounce of joy that is coming
I watch a lot sailing channels and I can tell you in all seriousness you have that boat more ocean crossing ready than 90% of the boats out there. Very nice work! Congrats and good luck in the crossing!

My wife was a light shade of green throughout both of our pregnancies of our beautiful daughters. She couldn't eat certain things at different times during the nine months of misery. We had an old McD's sandpail toy that became her "Unhappy Meal" bucket. Was put to use many times in the car, or out and about. Funny watching an adult carrying a little bucket with a clown on it. Hang in there Desiree!
As much as I so happy for you both that the boat projects are over I am going to miss them so much. I am a huge Jordan fan and your skills. I loved how you explained your evolution from not being skilled and learning over time. So humble. Your work and results are really top notch. I love the editing and the music. Desiree, you are doing amazing for the 1st trimester! You both are really special to all of us. I love my Saturday mornings with a fresh cup of coffee and your adventures. No winking necessary. Pregnancy is hard work! My wife is not a napper normally, she napped a LOT when she was pregnant! Embrace your new journey! The changes are cool, crazy, terrifying and amazing all at the same time!

I (really ALL of us) enjoy all of your videos because you are GOOD at it! But this one I'm going to award the Video editing Oscar for! It really just jumped out at me and gave a virtual jaw drop! All of that meat! No, just kidding there! Because we do get to be witnesses to a lot of DIY while watching Sailing Channels, you were able to take at least a couple of hours of How To video and give us just enough to let us see how it's done for each phase, which is a little better than watching someone hand sand a cabinet door for 15 minutes! I can appreciate taking all that video and using only about 15 minutes of it to tell your story. I can appreciate that after taking years of slides (in the old days) and using maybe 3% when making your slide show for the family!
In my day, I thought convenience was when we got to use Loran for coastal cruising, and off shore, when I could afford SatNav, I could get a fix once every 90 minutes! That was SOOO much better than Dead Reckoning (guessing) or a sextant! I never had head backups or plumbing issues with a 5 gallon bucket. But I did have to learn to throw it off the stern instead of the bow! ;)
Not sure if you like to listen to audiobooks on watch at night, but I like the spy thrillers and just finished Brad Thor's "Foreign Agent" which takes place partly on Malta. All of us Walter Mitty-types easily identify with the protagonist, Scott Harvath! ;) Bon Voyage!

Jordan, with the outboard motor it's important to keep the motor higher then the tail. Because the cooling system use water out of the sea, salt water will damage the motor! This because the rest water runs into the the motor. So if you want to store it for a long time, all the salt water needs to get out of the cooling system to avoid the damage. I see on the episode that you store it wrong. It's only a advise from me, my outboard was dead after a winter in store in the wrong position. Do with it what you want. Take care with the overtake to the Azores, Portugal and more then that. Take care of Desiree and the baby, We are happy for both of you.

I also wonder how the outboard is laying on its side because it may leak oil. I don’t know if they are designed to lay like that

Fold up an old moving blanket for it to lay on. No rattling or damage. 🤷🏻♂️🤔.

All you need to do is flush with fresh water
Somehow I would try and attempt to store it on some bracket mounted vertical on a bulkhead (easy to say I know) or even if it is slant but mounted on some side wall.

We find that packing the vacuumed meat in the boat freezer prior to freezing allows better adaptation and lets us get more in the freezer as opposed to first freezing it. Of course the freezer must be robust enough to freeze it quickly enough to avoid spoilage. Great episode as always

First off my 6 yr old daughter is SO excited you're expecting. She came running and screaming excitedly, "they're having a baby!!!!"
Second, Jordan, yep, pregnancy really is like that. One of my first symptoms is extreme exhaustion and sleep. I'm a go-getter, so aside from the nausea and heartburn, it is a real adjustment. It'll pass. 5-7 months is the best!
Humble suggestion. The foam blocks for the dinghy, put adhesive velcro on the deck and on the blocks. Those things love to fly away in any kind of wind and having them stay put when taking the dinghy on and off will be really nice.
I'm always amazed at your OJT skills on this boat, it holds my attention to the end. Anxious to see your sea adventures, but your rehab adventures have been well done. It's all about adapting to the situation without losing patience I suppose.
Desiree, I slept for the first 5 months of my first pregnancy. My midwife told me that in building a baby I was doing the equivalent of climbing a mountain every day. Sleep while you can! It will get easier... but by then you won't be able to see your feet. Congratulations!
My dad bought a 30 foot Yall kit sailboat. The deck and head liner were attached at the factory but the deck assembly was not attached to the hull. All the fittings mast included were unassembled. Rigging the same way. The engine was a Volvo diesel two cylinder, not installed. The name he chose was Windlass. She was launched in the lower Niagara River about a mile from the falls. She was moored in the current, three or so knots, and had a fine life there. We would take her out into Lake Ontario quite often. My dad was a Navy man and there was nothing he couldn’t do. During the housing recession in in the late eighties he moved to Annapolis MD, he was a midshipman and graduated from the Navel Academy in 45. He decided to bring Windlass down to Annapolis about a week and a half before Thanksgiving. From western Lake Ontario through the Eire Canal ( lower the mast) to the Hudson River (raise the mast) into the inland waterway, out into the Atlantic Ocean, through the Cape May canal up Delaware bay, then access the Delaware canal and finally into the Chesapeake.
My brother took the first leg to Tom’s River New Jersey where we switch. That evening after ship’s duties we laid at anchor and took rowed the dinghy to the nearby dock tied up and almost got stinking drunk at the tavern. My dad loves the opposite sex and was hitting up with the women there! Luckily for me I was tipsy but not that far gone. About one o’clock that early morning we made it back to the dinghy and I rowed back to the sailboat. I climbed aboard using a rope &slat ladder, it was very cold, fifteen degrees as I remember, and now it was the drunken captain’s turn. Although the dinghy was tied my dad the captain slipped on the Ivey step and into the harbor he went!
We were both dressed for winter so my dad’s clothes were so filled with water he couldn’t even pull himself up the ladder! I grabbed the main sail topping line and lowered to him, he got it around under his arms and I proceeded to winch the poor soaking captain aboard ship. Water was just pouring out of him no wonder he couldn’t climb that ladder!
It’s a memory I’ll never forget. But that’s just the middle of the story!

You've come a long way from farming out your hard-won skills on Isla Mujeres. Some folks might be jealous. I, for one, applaud your determination and hard work to achieve your goals. Envy only sours the envious. I pray that the good Lord grants you fair winds and following seas for your crossing to os Açores. From all I've seen it's a magical group of islands. I, as always, eagerly await your next installment.
Great episode. It is amazing how many skills and how much knowledge the two of you have acquired in the past few years. The fact is ,for the most part, you have done the installs, troubleshooting and planning for most systems instead of paying to have it done. This will serve you well when something needs to be repaired/replaced at sea.

You two have certainly defined the saying "a boat load of work". Fair winds and following seas. Stay safe.
When you are storing a boat motor, you can never lay it on its side because you can possibly damage it or because of how fuel may end up leaking all over the place if you leave it lying on its side for prolonged periods of time.
Another great video! One thing I would do is foam block that outboard to prevent any rubbing at any point to the boat. The smallest rub is going to cause you bad headaches in later repair. Also build a harness strap to use in the boom to do the lifting. You worked hard getting that outboard in there and you may be on your own taking it out! Little things to save you!

I used to be a coastal cruiser and put in an electric head that used freshwater, the difference in the smell of the boat was amazing. As I understand it, with a raw water head after you are finished using the head, all of the organic material (critters) in the water still in the line die and smell. Great to know there is a system that works both ways.

Jordan, maybe installing the water maker now would have been a good option for the continued use of the fresh water toilet and forgoing all the extra plumbing for the saltwater toilet. Just thinking out loud.

I live in Florida The hot half and have no trouble dealing with the heat, but when salty sweat gets in my eyes , it takes me down a notch. It's weight building up on you. With the heat and hard confining work, ya just don't need salt in your eyes too!

Desiree you are growing a new little buddy in that body of yours! It is working very hard, you will be much fatigued. Give yourself permission to rest when needed. In nine months you will be so busy it will be hard to find that time. We are so excited for you and Jordan to be parents. It is the greatest blessing in life.

Desiree, hang in there. I had 3 kids. My second pregnancy was horrible and I had morning sickness the whole time. All I wanted to do was drink grapefruit juice. Buying all those nuts was a good idea. If you like these foods, I also recommend pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and prunes for iron. They should be easy energy foods that might be good on your crossing. The smells really got to me too. The other two pregnancies weren’t too bad, but I did rest a lot. When you think you need rest, rest. Be kind to yourself and your little one and you’ll be fine. You got this! Wishing you both all the best and looking forward to watching.
Desiree remember you are growing a human and that entitles you to sleep as much as you need 😉 every pregnancy is different and only you know what your body needs to do too grow that tiny human as safely as possible, so listen to it when it’s telling you too sleep, eat and sleep some more 🙂. You are both going to be wonderful parents and learning as you go can be scary for new parents but being the fantastic team that you already are, there is nothing you can’t do together to get over what ever happens when raising your new baby. Congratulations 🥳 and sending you positivity and love for your crossing, you will love Malta when the time to go is upon you, it is truly a wonderful place. 🥰🥰

I always wore a harness with two lanyards, one fastens to the running lines, the other is used to cross any transverse obstacles-so you take the one over your shoulder and clip it on the other side of the obstacle before you undo the other. Until you get swept off your feet by a wave and fly helplessly across the deck only to be jerked to a stop by your harness, you will not fully appreciate the power of the harness and sound fastenings and pre-set jack lines. I also trailed a dead man's rope, but if one ever did fall overboard, the chance of catching it and climbing back aboard it not an easy one,.
Use your shower waste water to flush the toilet. Marine macerator heads use only a small amount of flush water. Of course you have to pour a little sterilant down the shower drain or it will go off in the tank and smell awful, but it works fine for flushing a freshwater heads if you have about fifty to eighty litres of tankage of shower waste water for head flushing. The excess shower water once the flushing tank is full can go over the side. Use siphon breakers never one-way valves. If the flush tank runs low then you can add more fresh or add some sea water. Mine never did and there was two of us aboard.

Heavy plastic bags placed under the outboard, then fill them with spray foam will create a more stabile foundation. It will also stop ugly ware marks on the outboard.

Desiree perfectly normal to feel tired and need more naps while pregnant....especially early pregnancy! think about just what your body is doing ; amazing incredible human making effort and the energy it requires . ( BTW if you ever need to chat with an experienced ICU/CCU/ER Registered Nurse ) I'm here for you! Another great video and so excited for both of you. Wow, you have done a ton of outfitting and what's impressive you didn't take any shortcuts. Awesome job. It was a LOT of work but now you know how it all went together so when something does happen, you will know exactly how to repair or change it. It appears you have covered most all of the bases for preparation for the adventure. The actual sailing part is about to begin!

I had really bad nausea during my first trimester, but there is hope for you coming soon ( I hope) the second trimester I felt great like I could conquer the world! Ginger lollipops helped me and peppermint gum.
After the first trimester I was even able to go fishing on Lake Michigan in ten foot waves, my husband wasn’t too happy about it though.
So cool- You two are fantastic after watching you and several other sailors throughout the years aside from all the adventures there is one thing that is 100% constant. SAILING IS A LOT OF HARD WORK.

It's been great having you two in NC. Meeting Jordan in person was cool and I saw the boat on a couple of different occasions after that when I was in Washington for work. It was neat to see the improvements in 3D as you made them, as they could be easily spotted from the little walkway at the dock. I hope you enjoy your time traveling across the ocean and we're definitely looking forward to watching your adventures. Please come back to NC at some point!
