You don't buy a Diesel in SUV to "save money". You buy it for low end torque because it suits SUV driving style. With an engine like this Audi, you can haul whatever and you won't have any problems. It's the same philosophy as with Cummins and Duramax. They are not for saving money, they are for hauling stuff. If you want an economical Diesel, buy a Volkswagen Passat, or some Citroën...
You are wrong, your hauling abilities are not constrained by engine torque, but by tyre type/size. If you want to haul stuff, buy a truck, because that audi is not gonna work on loose/muddy surface at all. If you want wheel torque, Soviet Uaз (80hp bus) with great reduction gearbox or Kamaз (60 hp truck used everywhere in postsoviet countries) truck have probably more than this useless Audi
Without Torque, you need very Low Gearing as to not destroy the engine. Low Torque engines can be used to haul stuff but it's not very practical because most of the time it's going to be significantly slower and they may even use more fuel than more torque engine. Right tires are also good but not essential because if it's a heavy load, it will press down on suspension and tires and create more grip that way. Tires are not essential, but it's a lot safer to use the right tyres. A truck is much more versatile than that Audi, that is for sure, but you don't need a truck to haul things for 100 km on a highway and a few dozen meters on gravel. For work, Truck is much better, but if you are on a family vacation and you want to take a boat with you, that Audi will be a better choice because it is more practical for that use. No one at a right mind would use this Audi as a replacement for F-250, but most people don't need a Truck that size- In Europe, roads are narrow and winding so that Audi is much more practical than a Pickup. Quattro AWD is not as good for heavy duty use as something with propper 4X4, but for things, it would be used for, that Quattro is just fine and 4X4 would be redundant, cause no one at a right mind would take that Audi somewhere where that makes a big difference. Alot of us here are like they should have did it but the truth is even tho the tag of "budget super" was placed on it..only the rich could seriously buy one and petrol consumption would be the last thing on their minds when deciding to buy a supercar. It certainly wouldn't make any sense purchasing an r8 new without the beautiful sound of the na v10
@@nsm6526 I love driving diesel for the torque.the mileage is gravy
@@tropicalsnow yea but would you take it over a na screaming v10
Jeremy Clarkson just loves saying word astonishing every time
Unbelivable this car is so old.It was ahead of time when it debuted.
I noticed one thing that this episode originally aired in 6 Dec 2009 and this video was uploaded two days later on 8 Dec 2009.
Lol
@@dragospahontu what lol?
this is the best car out there. A true king of the road.
That thing was 171 964€ in todays money adjusted for inflation!
I so miss the audi that was crazy enough to make this car. My car is the very last of that era a 2015 audi rs5 with the high revving final 4.2 v8
this is what hannibal lecter should drive. understated but absolutely vicious xD
He's got a way with words has Clarkson.....😂😂😂
That Q7 is epic
I love this Q7 and the V12 TDI
Whoevers waching this in 2018 this is amazing seeing how everyone gets hyped about the 707 hp the jeep trackhawk and thinks its amazing engenering and yet this car had 30 more horses wich was built in 2009 is absolutely amazing and is around the same price
That was torque he was talking about.
The V12 Q7 has 493bhp & 738lb-ft Torque.
The Trackhawk has 707bhp & 645lb-ft Torque.
Shona I bet that for less than 10K € in tuning the 6.0 V12 TDI engine would make almost twice the power than stock and almost twice the torque of the trackhawk. All of this while not averaging at 15mpg lmao
@@jonytube more like 8mpg 😂😂
Leave the statue of liberty in the same angle as the tower of pizza
GinGER the real question is why wouldn’t you want 2000Nm of torque? 1500 lb ft for my fellow Americans
I've always thought this was one of the most handsome suvs ever aside from the range rover of its time.
Am I the only person who is sick to the back teeth of the TG fast cut camera work?
Novel.
jamie savage Novel. And highly intuitive of you.
jamie savage I'm reporting you for this. Threatening behaviour is actually a statutory offence.
I know it's the way I roll my friend .. always offering to be a good Samaritan in the time of need of a stranger ... p.s stop looking at this beast of a vw toureg you can't afford it so stop pretending pal .
behave your self be calm I COME IN PEACE ! I WOUDNT HURT A FLY
Torque combined with revs produce power. Lots of Low end torque means lots of low end power and power couse acceleration. Power goes to gearbox etc and into wheels and it generate wheel torque which pushes car forward because
a = F/m
It’s too bad the V12 TDI didn’t come to the USA. I really liked it. Just the fact that it exists is amazing.
Speed King267 a lot of European cars don't go to the states don't know why
That's my favourite car
Lion King HD well so r u
It’s really ridiculous. I drove it and it is insane. Just so weird having such a heavy car go that fast.
@@gymweeb9229 Not as surprising if you have been in a 2 tonne Merc SL 65 AMG which can go way faster.
AG19RDR the one I drove was tuned though.
@@gymweeb9229 lmao a Q7 V12 tuned? I imagine it having like 1200 Nm of torque. Or 1500 Nm like the Veyron has... :-/
Honestly, one of most beautiful SUV's ever made.
“The car could tow a jumbo jet”
Well, no joke

My favourite car in the whole world!
ok youtube you give me this after 10 years, thx
The time when the electrification of the cars was not a thing. The good old age ❤.
in the usual Clarkson way he as damning it with faint praise
Bringing that to the next Fridays For Future Protest
Audi Q7, my favorite car 😮❤
Sadly 11 years later even all of their RS products are the slowest among their competitors.
Bright Ivan your wrong, you could say that the RS6 is faster than some modern day Lamborghinis and that it’s the fastest production estate ever....
@@Nolongrused fun fact: RS6 is the newest among it and M5 and E63S Estate but its also the slowest. M5 and E63S totally smoked the RS6.
@@brightivan you're correct, I own a Rs5 2018, quicker than the m3 & c63 in drag race, once its gets over 70mph,they pull alot more
Everybody calls the old Q7 ugly, but I actually really like it, is it only me?
That’s a very smooth diesel
I have a 2010 Mercedes ML 350 with the blue tech. Tuned and deleted. 280 horse, 500Trq. 32 miles a gallon on the highway. Next driving is around 24 to 25. Can’t beat that. Well I can, I actually have a BMW 335D that’s tuned and deleted. Darn near 400 horse and 680Trq.
this is a car for World leaders
The point of a diesel is not (just) to save fuel, it is to make use and enjoy all that mountain of torque you have under your right foot.
Jeremy this is the best looking car going
my dad had exact same back in 2012 mad car
fucking fast
Because they could, what a machine 👌
I like that the styling taste changed so much
People say overkill for a diesel, but
493hp/738ft/ lbs. and 21-25mpg
Name one diesel (or anything for that matter) that meets those numbers.
Duramax, Powerstroke, Cummings, etc. close on specs (albeit less torque), 8-12mpg at best...
You fucking dumbass, this car is from 2009 and it is an diesel, can your gay svr tow a jumbo jet? No.
yes he is.. he totally forget for 5000+ lbs or more that 2,3 tons of mass
audi is heavier and its diesek dumbass
dumbass...
Tesla Model S.
Sorry but a 6l V12 twin turbo diesel is really very cool in my view
And also useless
Goated car in my opinion
Only suv i new 14 yrs ago.. so hot 🔥🔥🔥
the problem with this car is that its not an english car!! (& hes jelous)
tritade thats why its not broke once in a week, and everything are fit well
Why is he such a fan of the xc90 then?
Neither are you

I liked Audi until 2016 when they released the new q7 that q7 is nice tho to be fair
The torque tho
I'd like that engine in my A5 S Line 3L TDI quattro Cabriolet CVT. Wonder what the performance would be like in that?😊
CVT transmissions are gay
