I believe that the Touareg, unlike this one, is a very very capable off roader. I got the V10 Tdi. For other’s here the W12 was a petrol engine and the R50 was a V10Tdi suped-up version (with 350hp instead of 313 of the regular V10, and 850nm of torque instead of 750nm).
It had V12 TDI quattro badge and also it has a different rear bumper than the regular Q7. On top of that it was a swis license plates and they dont put stickers on regular cars, they drive the real things.
One time in a fancy neighborhood a Mercedes S-class slowed for me in case I was crossing the street. Behind me, an Audi A8 was pulling out into the street. The two yachts came within inches of crashing into each other because they were watching a pedestrian.
My dad and i test drove this car up some windy german mountain roads and on the Autobahn. Felt surreal how quickly this giant machine was moving around
Years ahead of the likely BMW X7M. In Australia with all that torque, you can use this Audi to pull up tree stumps, roots and all, after you chopped the tree down. Fabulous.
I remember Toyota australia did an advert for the hilux going around pulling up tree stumps and fence posts and stuff, and the catchphrase was "bugger" because the car did the job too well. You can probably find it here on TH-cam somewhere
It's amazing what Audi was able do with this car .... I can only imagine what the V8 Bi-Turbo in the sq7 and sq8 is able to do... I stand corrected... but I think its actually 3 turbos ....
The car is simply a state of an art, as simple as that. Its important to say, that you get performance of bi turbo V12 engine combined with diesel efficiency. And in the long run it makes perfect sense if you travel quite a lot.
I’m imagining it right now and it sounds pretty good, loads of hp and torque and not needing to fill up every couple hundred miles sounds like an excellent combination.
@@diffypoo It wouldn't be any faster than the V10, it would be far heavier because this engine weighs like 400Kg, it would be much more expensive defeating the purpose of any fuel savings because no one buys an R8 to drive 30k miles a year. And it simply wouldn't fit which is the reason they gave up on it, the engine is so big they had to lengthen the chassis of the prototype to drop it in. Just leave truck engines in trucks.

I remember first seeing the V12 Q7 on Top Gear against the equally non sensical BMW X5M. Both absolutely ludicrous over the top cars and yet for all that I loved the Germans for making them.....just because they could....bloody expensive laughs though, even back then, maybe 10 years ago they were £76k (BMW) and £96k (Audi).

That Q7 V12 is my dream machine since they came out and always wanted one. and I still find them very practical. I Iove the power and smoothness of one. Wish I had money. I dunno what sort of narrow minded people that would find it pointless. Hopefully id win the lotto just to have one of them. To be frank, I dreamed about this car as I'm a diesel enthusiast and self combusting v12 sounded very much of my liking, *but* the engine with the chargers and so weights around a tonne and that contributes to the under steer. I'm down for v8 diesel, gunning for similar output after a stage 2 mod.

I remember Clarkson's review of this vehicle - he was equally as baffled by its existence. But it seems Audi's timing for the release of this vehicle was a bit off as we all know what happened in 2009 - that's probably why so few were sold.

A little bit irrelevant but have you considered the Lexus ls430 over the Mercedes s class I mention this due to the purchase of the s500 vs the. S320cdi I would love to see a UK owners impressions / owners experience and whether the reliability stands true PS it might just save you a huge repair bill 😆😆 Update I hear the :v8 lexus engines cost a lot more to maintain vs the v6 engines
On the autobahn once i was cruising along at a leisurely 135 mph in the left lane as i had just overtaken a slower car in the center lane. I was just getting ready to shift back when 2 of those V12 monsters roared up on me furiously flashing their headlamps. I accelerated to expedite my lane change and as soon as i was out of the way they roared off leaving me quite humbled.
When I heard that they were only 30 Q7 Exclusive in the UK I directly check the french online car market cause I had seen lots of Q7 V12 out on the street and I couldn't belive there were only 30 exclusive one and I found at least five of them (including two having a 4 seats configuration) for sale for as low as £25k

It's quite as expected - my boss' Range Rover 3.6 TDV8 with just over half the power of this has averaged 22mpg and he doesn't floor it...
