I’m super excited to share my Rudiment Creativity Volumes 1 and 2 with you all! In these books, I’ve broken down each rudiment and included 10 drum set applications for each one, so you can really start applying them creatively in your playing. I also recorded mp3s for EVERY exercise and application to make practicing even easier. And just for fun, I added a BONUS section called 'Carlito’s Licks' with some of my favorite ways to use these rudiments on the kit. If you’re ready to take your rudiments to the next level, check out the books here: www.carlitomendoza.com/shop

One of several reasons why Keith Moon's drumming continues to be so interesting is because only now & again can identifiable rudiments be parsed from it, compared to, say, Ginger Baker, who was always playing very identifiable rudiments, especially paradiddles. It is always most exciting when drumming is placed farther & farther away from it's Army Signal Corps origins, so that instead of assimilating it on the first listen, we instead respond by saying "WHAT the hell was THAT?" Being didactic is not the aim of an art.
Absolutely, I understand! I just aim to help those who are searching for answers. Keith was an incredible drummer with a style all his own. Some people might not find his drumming as captivating, while others, like you, really connect with his playing. The beauty of it all is that music is subjective, and everyone learns in their own way. Some might enjoy the mystery behind a drummer’s approach, while others prefer an analytical breakdown to understand the “how” and “why.” Is one approach better than the other?
