In this video, we take you on an exciting journey to Sri Lanka, a country that has been on our bucket list for years. Join us as we explore the rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes of this beautiful and diverse destination.
But before we dive in, we address some common concerns. Safety is always a priority, and we understand the worries associated with traveling to Sri Lanka. We provide important context about past events, such as the 2019 terror attacks and the impact of COVID-19 in 2020. Armed with our own research, we decided to embark on this adventure and bring our family along.
Our first stop is Kandy, the second largest city in Sri Lanka. We rented a van with a highly recommended driver who doubles as our tour guide. At an affordable cost of approximately $900 for two weeks, we set out to explore the wonders of Kandy and its surrounding areas.
In Kandy, we visit the city's most sacred site, the Temple of the Tooth. This revered Buddhist temple houses a significant relic, the sacred tooth of Buddha. We delve into the temple's history and its cultural and religious significance, as well as the customs of buying flowers as offerings.
Beyond the temple, we discover the unique cultural experiences that Sri Lanka offers. We introduce you to the ancient art form of batik, where wax is used to create intricate patterns on fabric. It's a great opportunity for our children to learn about and appreciate different cultures.
Immersing ourselves in local traditions, we attend a captivating cultural dance show, showcasing the national dance of Sri Lanka. The energy and talent displayed leave us in awe, and even our kids are captivated and want more.
While sharing our travel experiences, we shed light on the current state of Sri Lanka's economy. The country has faced significant financial challenges, especially due to the decline in tourism. We discuss the importance of tourism as an economic driver and its impact on local resources.
Throughout our journey, we encounter the warm hospitality of the Sri Lankan people. Despite economic hardships, they remain friendly and welcoming. We also appreciate the affordability of the country, from accommodation to food, allowing us to fully enjoy our time with the family.
In conclusion, Sri Lanka has captured our hearts with its beauty, diversity, and the genuine kindness of its people. I just got back from SL a week ago, spent the whole month of May 2023 travelling around the country. It was wonderful, all back to normal and very safe. Plenty of tourists everywhere. The food was great, amazing scenery (from beautiful beaches to breathtaking mountains). Amazing cultural experiences with historical cities ( a country with thousands of yrs of civilization). The range of hotels are excellent, with wonderful high end boutique hotels everywhere. Colombo is now quite a hub for food and entertainment. The people are one of the most generous and hospitable on the planet. A small country but a lot to see. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back.

Sri lanka is mainly a young tourist destination. Not a lot of families or elderly come to visit. But alot of adventurous young tourists come. Now alot of Russians have started to stay in the country for a long time. It's good because it brings a steady income to the country.

These shortages were over a long time ago. That was March 2022 to September 2022.
When you say wrong things, travellers do get alarm .
For your information, Sri Lanka is a middle income country .

Fuel and gas shortage a thing in the past. Now srilanka is back to normal. No problem whatsoever. Tourism is getting better. People are moving freely. No more protests. We welcome all tourists now with both hands.

Here's some more interesting things about Kandy.
First of all, the lake in the city is not the "Bogambara Lake". It called "Kiri Muhuda" or it can simply translate to English as "Milk Ocean". This was built by king Keerthi Sri Rajasingha in Kandyan era. The original Bogambara lake is not visible in present because it was filled in the Britain colonial era. Now there is a Playground on top of it.
Also Kandy is the last kingdom of Sri Lanka. So the old palace also can be seen near the Temple of the Tooh.
About the Temple of the tooth, This is the most sacred place for the Buddhists all over the world. The palace was built by king Wimaladharmasooriya who was the founder of the Kandy kingdom.
About the current situation of the country, It's safe to say that you can visit and enjoy freely. Gas is bit too much pricey but it still cheaper than Europe. Also I highly recommend to visit Sri Lanka in late March to August, because of the cultural and religious festivals that you can only can see in Sri Lanka. Also during March to May full moon day, you can visit the "Sri Padaya" (Adam's Peak).

Just to correct something temple of tooth went from anuradhapura polonnaruwa kingdoms dambulla then finally it is brought to kandy, the tooth relic is not only religious object but it defined where the capital kingdom in sri lanka. It stopped after british invasion

@@twinsonthego it's OK we are still a developing country when people say you are from poor country it's kind of make you feel hurt but that's the truth our inflation is high food inflation is high but we are top in happiness index so i feel eventhough we are poor without money our people are trying to stay happy also few things to mention we have free education and free health care eventhough we are poor we have these two precious things most of developed countries don't provide free health care and free education until university. buddhism is one of the religion in Sri Lanka but can consider as main religion because highest percentage is following buddhism even buddhism can consider as a religion we can consider this gem as a philosophy which can make our life for more advancement and make more quality life. it's worth to read about buddhism and culture and history of this country
