Scariest Experience in Kandy, Sri Lanka (but you've GOT TO do it!)

- Today is the day we explore Kandy and the unbelievable Ambuluwawa Tower in Sri Lanka! A huge benefit of having our scooter, Wanda, is that we can easily make the 20km journey from Kandy town to the Ambuluwawa Tower. This tower has to be the sketchiest structure we have ever climbed. Not only is it WAY too small for more than one person to go at a time (and yet everyone is trying to go up and down as they please), but it is so poorly built that the spaces in between the stairs are wide enough for a small child to fall through!
Ambuluwawa Tower sits amongst a beautiful religious site where 4 religions seem to have come together to share this beautiful hilltop. You can find a Buddhist Temple Islamic Mosque, Catholic Church, and Hindu Temple all within a few meters of one another on the hilltop. Everyone who visits this tourist site does so for Ambuluwawa Tower though! The spiraling tower is such a contrast to the surrounding hillside and visitors have the most amazing view at the top of the tower! But seriously, Anbuluwawa Tower is not for those with a fear of heights or a strong desire to keep all of their limbs! Climbing this tower is definitely a risk, and great care should be taken if you decide to make the adrenaline pumping journey.
After Ambuluwawa Tower we headed back to Kandy town for some delicious Sri Lankan food! We decided that for lunch we would try Kottu and Devilled Chicken. Sri Lankan kottu is chopped up roti cooked with vegetable and sometimes egg and meat or fish. If you are coming to Sri Lanka, you cannot miss trying this traditional Sri Lankan dish! We also found devilled chicken for lunch, which is another traditional Sri Lankan meal of spicy chicken and rice. Both dishes are delicious and should be added to your list of amazing Sri Lankan foods to try if you are headed to Sri Lanka for a visit!
After lunch we went for a walk at Kandy Lake which is beautifully situated in the center of Kandy, right next to the hustle and bustle of the city. Around Kandy Lake you can find cute cafes, restaurants, and lots of people taking advantage of the beautiful Sri Lankan weather.
No visit to Kandy is complete without seeing the Temple of the Tooth (often called the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic). This historical temple was built specifically to house the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha. Every night there is a ceremony in the temple that anyone can attend, no matter your religion. Anyone viewing the ceremony has the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the gold case that holds the Sacred Tooth Relic, and it really is something to behold!

Even if you don't have a scooter, we highly recommend finding a way to get to Ambuluwawa Tower if you are going to be in Kandy. Climbing the Ambuluwawa Tower is one of the our favourite things to do in Sri Lanka!

Wow everything in Kandy looks absolutely incredible! How convenient that you both were wearing white for the temple haha do you know why you’re supposed to wear white there or if it’s fine if you don’t? That makes me think I should reconsider my almost entirely black wardrobe for full time travel 😅

Incredible video, as always, it kind of works out that many people turned around halfway up the tower, I have seen pictures of this tower filled with people from top to bottom, with no room to move. Yikes!

Temple is the small shrine you said that looked like a building inside a building.

This was legitimately far more terrifying in real life than what it looks like on the screen 🙈 I feel like we didn't fully capture the age or "ricketyness" of the structure. We definitely had to put our blind trust on some of the steps ☠️ worth it for the views though... we think lol 😋😅

That tower's railings looks crumbling anytime. Such a bad idea to climb it. Government should ban the climbing or redo with some better architecture and structural design.
