- I will be solo backpacking around Sri Lanka for the next 2 weeks (and maybe more).
I have hired my own, self drive, tuktuk so I will be driving all around Sri Lanka in a rental tuktuk.
In this first leg of the journey I will be travelling from Negombo to Sigirya and I have picked up another passenger already. The journey turns out to be a lot more eventful than I had first anticipated.

Its a poson poya day. ( poson full moon day ) . It's very special for sri lanka buddhists. they celibate it with free food and doing religious things . not just cofee you can get rice and curry , ice cream , herbal tea and many more. in that day night is very colourful for traveling Sri Lanka .

@@leechafertravels when we lived in sri lanka ,our parents were vehemently christian and refused to stop at the road side when the kind people offered us food and drink at Poson! After living in England,we learned to appreciate the hospitality. Went we went back on holiday we realized in Sri lanka the people "mug" us to give things like food and drink

01:37 Those orange colour coconuts are called King Coconut and after tasting, you probably can guess why. Btw as per Wikipedia, those are native to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰🇱🇰.
02:00 These bike rallies are not a normal thing. But traffic laws are loosely enforced during some festival days (5 or 6 days per year).

In sri lanka budhist people have 3 major holidays Vesak poya ( lord buddha birth ,enlighten and death will celebrate in this day ) , poson poya ( we got buddhism in this day ) and esala poya this three days we sri lankan giving foods drinks to people (alms giving ) totaly free. Not only that streets houses will be decorated to

It was a special religious day for Sri Lankan buddhists. Something similar to Christmas. Sri Lankan buddhists celebrate that day because, in ancient time, that was the day that Sri Lanka got the Buddhism from India officially.

Vesak full moon poya day on the month of May where the Lord Buddha who is considered as the religious leader of all buddhists was born, enlightened and attained nibbana and Poson full moon poya day on the month of June where buddhism was established in Srilanka are very special poya days for all buddhists around the country. People get ready with different types of decorations such as lanterns and pandols for 4 - 5 days around the full moon poya day and specially they offer many free food drinks vegetables and even clothes which are called "Dansal".
