Its up to our main squad to stop him, but with no shack, things look to be TERRIBLE! Despite all of this, with the reveal at the end of this episode, we CANT WAIT TO SEE SEASON 2!

The lore drop of Stan having the last journal and seeing the basement feels so rewarding. The show is really good at slowly building up plot points and knowing when to reveal stuff, and after an entire season of speculating what is going on with the vending machine, we get a new look, but the explanation is left for season 2, which is incredibly lore heavy, so much so that season 1 feels like setup for the real story of the show.
Because that is exactly what season 1 is
The most amazing thing is finding out how many clues were in season 1, after getting the context of season 2
Gravity falls basement twist > AoT
Thats essentially what S1 was! They were finding there footing in the Disney animation space, hence why theres more filler in S1, but even the filler feels a little important to the lore (Especially on a repeat watch)
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate what a badass Dipper was in this episode. He dove hundreds of feed off a cliff, straight through that mech's eye, beat the living crap out of Gideon, and used his own mech against him, all to save his sister. That boy is a true hero. I also really love how much Stan cares about Dipper and Mabel, and only sends them home because he thinks it's what was best for them.
I swear you're on every reaction channel.
To answer the “break” question, YES. We would have to wait months for each episode sometimes. Not sure how 12 y/o me stayed invested cuz this show took forever to come out. Goes to show how great of a show it is.
It was a day short of a year between the end of Season 1 and the start of Season 2, and both seasons had 1 mid-season 4 month breaks, with the first season having 1 2.5 month break and the second season having 2 2.5 month breaks (and the season 2 breaks are mostly just as bad as this one for cliffhangers.)
I’m losing it at the theory that Gideon’s weakness was “bullying the elderly” 😭

to Montana’s question about the episodes having a big gap in between, there definitely was every once in a while, especially when there were big episodes like these. this episode came out Aug 2, 2013 and the first episode of s2 came out Aug 1, 2014. so basically a whole year
as someone who only just saw the show last year i couldn't image waiting especially that long in between episodes

I know you two have been told this a lot for the other multi-season series you've watched (ATLA, ATLOK, She-Ra, Owl House, etc.) but get ready. The narrative, characters, and world-building are going to shift into an even higher gear next episode and will only keep going further right to the grand finale. It's a wild ride filled with even more secret codes, lore, and top notch moments in modern animation.
With that said, I highly recommend you both check out the mini-episode segments that came out between season 1 and 2. The "Fixin' It with Soos," "Mystery Shack: Shop At Home," and "Gravity Falls Public Access TV" are excellent little character focused moments, but "Dipper's Guide to the Unexplained" and "Mabel's Guide to Everything" offer even more insights to the town and other supernatural phenomenon that surrounds it. Those mini-episodes also have a collection of end credits images that setup a major plot moment in season 2.
Seeing Stan put Mabel and Dipper on the bus back home really hit me in the feels. We've seen moments of vulnerability from Stan before, but never quite like this.
The McGuckett slander is unjustified

They don’t have his lore yet so they have no proper reason to like him yet

Once they learn more about him, I think Kenny will change his tune. McGuckett is interesting because despite his genius level robotics engineering, the show does a spectacular job at making him feel like just another ongoing bit. You don't question McGuckett until you're chest deep in the episode giving you backstory on him. I cannot wait for them to learn the truth!

This cliffhanger is one of the best in history in animated series. It revealed so many and left with even more questions. This whole scene directed by Alex Hirsh and music made by Brad Breeck is unbelievably epic grandmasterpiece!
Season 2 will be even bigger ride! Can't wait to see your reaction to that!
My other most hated cliffhanger in animated shows was from Tangled the Series with (SPOILER) Cass saying "I told you, Raps, you should be careful of who you trust"

“Inconsiderate, at best.” It was but such a masterpiece of a cliffhanger can be appreciated as art in and of itself.

Have you seen Blind Wave's reaction to the series? They full-on do their best to codebreak every cipher until they get a bit harder. Even then, they still give it a try. One of them will record backwards speak on their phone and play it... double backward? Forwards. Play it forward on the phone.
It's probably the closest I've seen to doing the whole experience short of catching it when it came out. Just saying it's a good reaction/they're very good reactors to whatever they watch if you haven't.

@@satiramalek2572 definitely recommend their reaction to The Room. Closest thing for the cure to depression I've found in terms of a reaction to anything. But I'd highly recommend them all around, otherwise. But The Room is a must.
I started this show as a way to spend time with my son. I was surprised at how much I found myself enjoying it. It's been years and my son and I are still big fans
I really wish that they knew about the secret codes hidden in every episode. I would love to see them work together and learn about ciphers to decode them
Unfortunately that's the bummer of watching almost every Gravity Falls reactor. I've watched a bunch of people react to this and only seen a couple engage in any way with the cyphers. Gallifrey Gals took a while but eventually started cracking the end of credits ones, Blind Wave did the most thorough job, breaking the credits and book codes.

We knew since episode 1 that there are no further journals after #3, because Dipper said that journal 3 was never finished. The authors stopped and hid his journals, halfway through the third volume.
I remember watching this episode by episode as they came out. It was such an awesome community of fans and friends, cracking codes, making theories, writing and reading fan fictions. This show was so good at building up that mystery and anticipation.
This show had an erratic schedule! The audience had to waits months for the next episode to air midseason

So satisfying seeing Dipper whoop Gideon. In the words of Tyler, “Get em. Get em!”

Also! Not only did this show have a break between seasons, but the creator of the show fought to be able to air the episodes as they were made instead of weekly, so that they could spend as much time as needed to complete them. There was a three month gap between parts 2 and 3 of the series finale.
One thing that I love is that season 1 is amazing, but this episode and the last really set the bar for how ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE season 2 is. You guys have great reactions, can't wait to see more!

Season 2 is when the FUN begins
To do some spoiler-free lore for this end scene.
1. The journals are not keys. Stan has been going down here since Ep1 when he only had journal 1
2. When Dipper says the picture in all 3 books is a blueprint he's right.
3. The machine already existed Stan just couldn't get it to WORK without the journals (hence his excitement)
4. Whether Stan has built it or not has not been established but it was physically there at the end
5. In gideons monologue he established that "The Author" lived in the shack previously that implies that the basement (and the secret room with the carpet) was his

I first watched season 1 as a kid in 2012. Never got to see season 2 because i stopped watching Disney and lost interest by the time it came out. I remember being so sad at the last episode because of that cliffhanger. Now here I am 12 years later finally about to see the next season. The wait better be worth it 🤞

I love this show so much... ok so up to this point there have been hints and background lore sprinkled into the show very sporadically but ever since bill showed up this show is about to shift into a new gear. there's technically only 2 seasons but season 2 definitely feels like there's a solid break between the first half and second and even has what I would consider a movie at the end. I appreciate this show so much for giving a story with actual consequences and shows the passage of time. it FEELS like things are happening and building to something every episode and the payoff of this season finale are extraordinary in my opinion.
alright time for the cryptograms and such... as this was the final episode of season 1 there's A LOT thrown in there. on the "squash with a human face" page there's a symbol message that reads ""don't eat him!!"
there's an A+3=D cypher that reads: "ELOO LV ZDWFKLQJ" carved into a pipe that translates to: "BILL IS WATCHING."
another symbol message on the machine page reads: "THE PORTAL WHEN COMPLETED WILL OPEN A GATEWAY TO INFINITE NEW WORLDS AND HERALD A NEW ERA IN MANKIND’S UNDERSTANDING OF THE UNIVERSE. PLUS, IT WILL PROBABLY GET GIRLS TO START TALKING TO ME FINALLY."
finally during the end credits we get two more: "18-5-22-5-18-19 20-8-5 3-9-16-8-5-18-19." Once decoded reads "REVERSE THE CIPHERS." and "5-19-23-6-21-16 18-9-6 4-16-19 22-12-15-10-20-19-25-19." which decoded: "SEARCH FOR THE BLINDEYE."

This might seem like a random compliment but I love that u guys sort your TH-cam videos into playlists bc I only know a few reaction TH-camrs who do that and it makes for such a better experience finding and watching u guys videos like I don’t have to stress out scrolling all the way through every video just to find the ones from gravity falls I can just go to the playlist and watch them all in order :) every time I find a reaction TH-camr who does playlists I let out a sigh of relief lol
Guys plesaaase like this post so they see it: there are secrets in the intro and post credits: play the end of the credits BACKWARDS... there are hidden messages. It creates a code for the post credits for eg. 3 letters BACKWARDS so A in alphabet is 3 letters backwatds abc c/d not sure rght now but pleaaase
