Why is the gasket sticking out/ Is that normal?

Great question! Yes perfectly normal. Its a quick visual aid to let you know the gasket is installed correctly and second what oil pump gasket was used. Copeland has a bunch of different oil pump design gaskets, each one has a different tab sticking out.

@@babutiruvalla9305 Thank you for reaching out. There are multiple causes and questions that can be asked. Also, what it the model? Lets assume it is like the Copeland compressor above. To give you a few quick things to think about please consider the following: 1) is the oil clean and free of debris? if not, it can clog the oil pickup screen in the crankcase. 2) Does the compressor have refrigerant flooding in the crankcase? That can cause it as well, but check your sight glass as if that is occurring you would see foaming. 3) if you had a flooded start or to much liquid in the crankcase it can suck up into the oil pump and snap the oil pump tang.
